LT Exam Scores

I heard 550 from a couple of people

550 would mean a more then 20% pass rate. I have an extremely hard time believing this exam has a 20% pass rate or more.

The NYPD Sergeant headcount is 4,606.

Considering every sergeant in the NYPD took the exam (which is not the case here). 20% passing would be 921.

Realistically, I would say 3500 took the exam. If the list is 550 that would be around 15% passing. 250 passing would be 7%.

This is why getting the real numbers through FOIL or personnel is important.

I had heard 250-300 from a few people nothing concrete but 10% was being thrown around by several people who heard it from the Key Idk who exactly they were talking about. It is highly possible that it was around that because 20% would place it closer to 500-550 which I dont see being the case TBH. Either way is a win for anyone on this list either of those numbers are not enough for the Department that list would be completed in 2-2 1/2 Years so I would assume some sort of throw outs are coming for those that were in the mid 60s which will def help more people pass and to
Those with lower 70s scores like myself it will only boost them to upper 70s possibly low 80s. Either way everyone on this list will get made.

IMO, the job will do what they did with the captains list and curve it. No shot the job wants to give another test in a year or two. Depending on how many people got in the 60s, i can see them making a list of around 1000. The captains list is about 500 so 1000 for LTs make sense. Getting a 60 is the new 70 for these tests it seems. Will they promote everyone, well thats a whole different discussion.

Absolutely not.   In 2015, 27 passed on test day and 108 passed on the alternate date.  I believe most cheated on the alternate date.  Guys on the alternate date were pulling 90+ while the 27 that passed on exam day were mostly low 70s.

This test referenced obscure procedures which made it extremely difficult but manageable with a little luck.  The 2015 was designed for test takers to fail and as an FU from the captain that oversaw the process.   I took both and this one was nowhere near as challenging.   I skipped 2017 because my 11 months of studying and all 5 weeks of vacation got me a 66.  I was convinced after the 2011 bad test (18 throw-outs), and 2015s abomination that the 2017 was going in the same direction.

2015 exam 164 passed on test day and 50 passed for makeup. Original list was 204 before the slimy 9 got it above 350. There was 100 that did makeup exam with 50 passing and a little over 2700 took it on test day with 164 passing. Nobody in the NYPD will know how many past because dcas does not share that info. The NYPD does not tell dcas they need a certain size list. These are facts.

100% except the NYPD definitely does tell them how many passers they want. Also, I know the lt rank is the only rank where there arent that many vacancies. a list of 550-600 would prob take 3 years to promote

Woah Im not even in the grave yet and you guys replacing me :( the only true hooks are the one inside Dcas when it comes to raw passers etc. This is strictly opinion but I believe the list will be a lot bigger then obviously a 10 percent pass rate. Most ppl who are in the 80s seems like it should be the 90s. You wont truly know until list comes out so I wish you all the best. Military seniority medals fitness points all going to be huge factor as they normally are for lt

Its definitely possible depending how big they want this list. But that doesnt mean they will get to their list number. Remember, the last LT and Sgts list would have gotten cut at some point if it wasnt for Covid and the one year extension. So just because you make the list with a score in the 50s doesnt mean youre gonna get promoted.

Well yeah, we all know that these tests dont measure the capability of a supervisor, theyre purely a memorization test. I know a sgt who just passed this test with a decent score, but also had his sgt probation extended because they kept making big mistakes out in the field. That being said, tests are the only fair way to establish a list. Nepotism is a plague in this dept, and would only be much worse without these tests.

While I don't disagree with you about nepotism/needing a test, they really should test on procedures that are actually used on a day to day basis, or, *the horror*, used in life and death split second decision situations... You know, the stuff that makes you a good boss.

Absolutely, they should be testing on procedures we will actually be using. Testing us on nonsense is getting old.

This is the only city agency that tests and promotes people who score 70's.  In other agencies, if you dont score, for example, a 93 or higher, you're not getting promoted.  Why purposefully make exams where people score low because they tested on useless, uncommon procedures that you would look up anyway.  Test on procedures that you do daily and need to know in the street and promote people who score high.  If you "pass" with a 72, you just die on the list, thats it. This dept is so backwards.  If you look at test theory, the way we test, craft questions, and craft answers is totally inappropriate and not a good measurement of testing.

so you would rather a list of 2000 people than a 5-600 list? And what procedures make you a good boss everyone precinct is different and deals with different situations and things
