Well, given the postponement of civilian promotion to 4/1, they're saying that uniform promotions is being added.  No exact numbers or rank, but source saying there is definitely uniform promotions being added to the mix.

Finest should then be released Wednesday or Thursday ?

I cant see that being the case. they need to allot time for people to pick up tickets prior, which if my memory serves me correctly, the ticket pick ups were the 2 days prior to promotion. I would have to assume the finest would probably be Tuesday the latest.

I hope its not true but I just heard at this time discretionary promos have been given the green light for 04/01 with the exception of 9 Captains that will be promoted on that day. Can anyone confirm ?

What would that have to do with sergeants?

I think what FutureAuxiliary is saying is that its possible that the surprise promotions on 4/1 that we thought to be out BMOC may actually just be discretionary promotions and not out BMOC

It means that Sgts and Lts arent included in this batch.

Wait so if your saying that out BMOC is included in those numbers what are the expected numbers for our BMOC.  It only states discretionary

Lets just wait and see, commands are so short on bosses right now that it doesnt make sense to at least promote one class.

Weve seen discretionary promotions happen hand in hand with BMOC promotions. Lets just wait and see. The city is so short on supervisors.

Exactly, gut feeling is that its all happening on 04/01 to get as many people out there as possible for the summer.

The guy came with specific #s for discretionary promotions, a reliable person in this forum, & ppl still having hissy fits. You guys drive each other crazy, I should be next class & coming on this forum makes me nauseous. The repetitive questions, the constant false info that goes around. Who the fuck cares when it happens, youre all getting made. Have some patience. This forum went from dumb ass trolls saying only half the list will be made to whiners about when Finest will drop. Relax. Jesus. Stop with the assumptions. Everyone has a fkn source. Bunch of nonsense.

Well I think not signing up for the next test if youre not made yet is a poor decision. Figure its a 100$ insurance policy. You can always cram and score what you likely scored on this exam anyway. Lol

We are very lucky that the list was extended. I do not think anyone should be panicking right now. But I do think everyone, myself included, would be more comfortable with another class in April. My personal opinion, I do think the whole list will get promoted, and I still believe it will happen even if there are no Sgt promotions until September (assuming that rumor is true).

However, I am waiting to see if there is an April class to decide whether or not to cram study for the Sgt test as a backup. Right now there is around 460 names left, if they did do a class of 160 in April, that would leave 300. So even if they did pause until September, they would almost certainly promote 300 more before the expiration.

Also just to address one other post. Like I said in the March topic, no one, not even the Mayor or PC can tell you whether or not the whole list will be promoted or cut. There are too many variables. The Mayor or PC may have a plan, but things can always change. However, in my opinion, looking at things logically in terms of the number of current vacancies, the normal rate of retirements, and the length of time before the expiration - yes I think the whole list will get promoted. Anyone on this forum who tells you they know for a fact otherwise is lying.

I agree, we just have to sit back and wait. It would make a ton of sense to have SGT promotions (300 SGT vacant spots) but this job loves to throw curveballs at us. Hopefully someone spills the beans like they did yesterday about discretionary promotions

I have no secret info, but Ive been part of this forum and the general promotional world for over a decade. Some advice: Ive been through the controversies and waiting games and lawsuits. If someone offered me a bet, right now, Id put an entire paycheck on this entire list being made. I have no doubt about that. Not one shred. Also, to think therell be no promotion until summer or fall is just silly. Id bet 2 paychecks on that.

You guys need to relax a bit. I know- Ive been there. Its awful. I wouldnt wish the 2015 LT exam debacle I went through on anyone. You guys will all get made, just be patient and take a break from the gossip.

Thank you for the insight. Maybe you can answer one question to give me a little direction and piece of mind.

If you were around 350 to 400 names away right now, would you study and take the Sgt test, or would you be fully confident of getting promoted?

Im a little over 200 names. If i dont get made by the exam date of june 6th I will be sitting down taking the exam. I been through to many headaches on this jobs with the what ifs and false promises. The last thing anyone wants is to be on this list and get involved in the Bs nonsense that holds up your promotion. If I were you I would take it just because nothing is guaranteed on this job and for sure this job does not have any of our best interest. (But wtf do i know?)

did you register for the exam ??? the deadline just passed.  If yes, since you paid for it, i would study anyway.  Worse case, you getting a leg up on the LT test which is gonna happen within the next year.  Think of it that way.

And if you dont make it, you cover yourself for the re-take of sgt test

One of my hesitations is losing the points for medals. To my understanding, the points have to be used on the next exam that you pass and can only be used once. I have 8 or 9 medals that I would like to use on the Lieutenants test assuming I get promoted before it.

Thats almost entirely a personal decision, based on where you are in your career and a slew of other things. Id say if it helps with peace of mind, the application fee is a small price to pay. That being said, I dont think youll need to worry about actually needing it.

Medals and seniority are added for every exam. Vet points are the ones that are good for one test. So youre good.

Reading the NOE, seniority is every exam. Im reading the sub-bullets under the Dept. Rec. portion and it would appear I was incorrect on that. I was so sure that it applied to both my exams, but I guess not.

Though to be fair, while every point matters, even if you had 9 of the highest medals, it wouldnt amount to *too* much, not that its much consolation in your instance, lol. Take a look at the NOE and calculate exactly how much is on the table for you. You may find its a negligible difference.

Medals are only good for one exam. They automatically get applied. Seniority in rank is every exam. And the JST/run only one exam and it expires every 5 years.

Whoever signed up for the next exam, make it worth it & study hard hard hard. The benefit of it is, youll have a head start for the LT exam, use it as a refresher. You guys are right, its not a total loss paying & taking this next SGT exam, but make it worth it is all Im saying. You can contact DCAS & let them know you DO NOT want your medals on for the SGT exam if you pass, you can defer them to LT exam.

subject to the terms and conditions listed below.
For each award: Add the following points:

Exceptional Merit 0.125
Commendation 0.094
Meritorious Police Duty 0.063
Excellent Police Duty 0.031
Annual Physical Fitness Incentive Program maximum of 0.500 per year to a maximum of 2.500
Departmental Medal of Honor 0.375
Police Combat Cross 0.219
Medal of Valor (Merit) 0.188
* The following additional points beyond those awarded for Honorable Mention will be applied if the member
has also been awarded any of the following medals for the same act; otherwise, the member will receive
the points as indicated above:
Departmental Medal of Honor 0.219
Police Combat Cross 0.063
Medal for Valor (Merit) 0.032
Terms and Conditions Governing Credit for Departmental Awards:
a. Credit shall not be given for Excellent Police Duty awarded in connection with the Police
Departments Blood Bank Program.
b. Credit for the Annual Physical Fitness Incentive Program will be awarded at two-tenths (0.200) of one
point for successful completion of the cardiovascular component. Three-tenths (0.300) of one point
will be awarded for successful completion of the Job Standard Test (JST), which consists of six
components (barrier surmount, stair climb, physical restraint simulation, pursuit run, victim rescue,
and trigger pull.) The cardiovascular component must be successfully completed before candidates
may participate in the Job Standard Test. A maximum of one-half (0.500) point per year earned may
be applied toward the exam, to a total of 2.500 points. Consult the Personnel Bureau Memo for
further details of the program.
c. Credit for awards is granted in one successful examination only, i.e., an examination in which the
participating candidate attains a place on the eligible list and from which list he/she is subsequently
promoted and passes probation. Credit for an award will not be split between two promotion exams.
d. Credit for awards must be used by the candidate at the earliest opportunity, i.e., in the first successful
examination following acquisition and recognition of the award. Credit for awards will be granted in
date order, i.e., oldest awards will be credited first, with the exception of the Annual Physical Fitness
Incentive Program, which will be granted first.
e. Only departmental awards granted on or before the date of the written test will be credited, with
the exception of the Annual Physical Fitness Incentive Program. No credit will be given for the Annual
Physical Fitness Incentive Program granted in conjunction with an earlier promotional exam where
the candidate was placed on a resulting eligible list and from which list he/she was subsequently
promoted and passed promotion.
f. Credit for awards earned while employed by the New York City Transit Police Department or the New
York City Housing Authority Police Department will be granted to eligible candidates in compliance
with NYCPD Operations Order No. 94 dated 7/27/93.
g. The maximum total credit attainable on Seniority and Departmental Awards is 10.000 points. Credit
for seniority will be granted before gaining credit given for awards. This will allow maximum use of
awards. Any additional credit earned for awards beyond the maximum may be granted in a
subsequent promotion examination, except for awards given partial credit as indicated in c above.

TBH I haven't heard anything from my source about any last minute changes the very last thing I heard was either under 40 SGT or postponement for Uniformed Promos and 4/1 would just be Civilian promos only. Obviously anything could change but I wouldn't expect it. The finest most likely will be down Today or Tomorrow.
