Does anyone have information on pay steps in regards to the new PO contract. For us who were promoted in November and before we have to wait 4 years to top pay. Will Sgt's promoted in this BMOC and going forward only have to wait a year considering their salary as as a PO was more than a base pay Sgt ?
Yes same here. Granted we didn't have the 2.5 end of march raise in this check but we still make less than a top pay cop. I called the union and their answer was "we have the attorneys looking into this ". Isn't it a great feeling knowing that your cops make more money than you ? The sba really **** the bed on this one.
here's an interesting question..ONLY for those promoted to sgt on or after 4/7/2017
Any cop that gets Promoted NOW to Sergeant will not have any of these issues because he will:
A) Stay at his same salary and be promoted to sergeant
B) jump to the next highest SBA Salary step
C) take a pay cut Down to SBA Step # 1 even though the cop already makes more at this date forward 4/7 +
There's only ONE person on this entire job telling people that a Top Pay cop who gets promoted after 4/7/2017 will take a PAY CUT to join SBA Step 1. And i dont mean take a paycut because theres less OT .. i mean they Reduce your Base Salary On Paper (Example: Cop 86,000 upon Promotion Sgt 84,000 - Example - not actual #)
How can they reduce your Overall BASE salary on paper on a promotion ?
Wouldnt they have to keep you at the same salary at the very Minimal on some magical city Rule ive never seen but only heard of ?

I think it's a complete joke that the SBA hasn't sent out an email in regards to this. When I called they had no information and told me they would get back to me. That was over a month ago.
How the hell hasn't the SBA not addressed this. Retroactively cops made more than sergeants from August 1st 2016 till march 29th 2017 base salary not including 2% nco diff. It affected every Sgt who wasn't at top pay. Does someone have to sue to get **** done? I don't get it. Anyone have any info?
if you do the math, currently taking the promotion is an $857 pay cut in base if you count NCO as base salary...giving top pay cops a higher hourly rate
i don't know if the law/city charter/whatever states that we have to have a higher HOURLY rate then cops, or, technically, a higher BASE salary
remember, the city used this NCO differential as a way to say they kept cops to pattern when the reality is quite different
I would hope the SBA is working to fix this but I believe they are under contract til 2019(?)
either way, not going to complain much...the eventual pay jump is well worth a year below rate
so... what has the SBA been saying when they are going into the new classes? Can someone report back some information when they show up to sign you up for all the benefits
According to the SBA, starting with this class and everyone else that follows, their salary will be bumped to the next step. The one thing he did not know is that whether or not these classes will continue on to the next step or remain there until completion of their required steps. He said he thinks they are going to skip but the city isn't required to do that and that if they so happen to see an increase in their checks to not say a word. He also said those in the previous classes who got promoted before the contract is assed out.

Wowwww !!! So essentially, if you busted your ass, scored higher, and got promoted more than a year before the people in BMOC now, you're going to get paid less then them ? YOU GOTTA LOVE THIS DEPARTMENT
yah, the Lt from labor relations told us that our class is going to the 4th step...a little over 88k. apparently, the city DOES consider the NCO Diff salary
what he couldn't confirm, was would our salary structure change in the next year
he said the city can update the salary structure and our 4th step, would just become the 1st step, and 2-4 would be changed accordingly
if it doesn't, june 9, 2018, our class will reach top pay
basically, the city is of the opinion that if at the time you were promoted, you got you raise, then they don't owe you anything
i don't see how the city could let this go on considering this could apply to every promotional class for some time
I would guess they will change it
as for those of you who scored higher on the exam and are already sgts of police, idk what to tell you, its complete BS for you guys if they don't catch you up
I consider all 5 pay steps to be a "rite of passage" for new jack sergeants. You should all have to suffer through 4 years of hard work with small raises, garbage vacation picks, and 20 tour changes a year to cover for the senior sergeants. The cry baby millennials in the current BMOC should be ashamed of themselves for trying to weasel their way out of this time honored tradition. Hopefully you are punished by Mullins with a special 6 years to top pay contract revision!
After this Lt test let's regroup and get a lawyer!! See if we have a case of unfair wages just because we got promoted before the contract was finalized.
If you voted yes on the SBA contract before the PBA settled theirs, you should STFU and take a seat. None of those guys in the current BMOC class are at fault for having this blessing brought upon them. Give me a break with all that noble crap you just mentioned with the "rite of passage" garbage you just said...You mean to tell me that if someone told you that you're going to skip steps based on the errors of negotiations, you're going to pass that up cause you're such a noble guy? Smh, and then you wish Ill will on them by wishing they get longer steps put in place? I wish guys like you get demoted! Unbelievable how quick people turn into evil snakes against one another.
I didn't "forget where I came from" I came from 4 years to top pay, and it sucked! You jokers want something that you didn't earn, and I've got a real problem with that.
I just personally spoke with my director, thats a trustee for the new guys all recent promotees will be adjusted going back to people promoted in like 2015... so everyone relax... but can u new jacks hurry the hell up!!! We are getting 2 of you and i got a warm seat at the desk for you with 8 perps in cell and 10 walkins on the 4x.... i need a meal and aint getting one til you get here
Typical one way "all about me" mentality... you are still failing to realize this isn't something that happened because anybody cried about it like you're crying right now. This is strictly because YOU voted YES on a contract which kinda sells the PBA out, so using your mindset, this is just karma coming back to bite you in your ass. CONGRATULATIONS to those in this class who are lucky enough to get that benefit because of the NEGOTIATION practices between the city and the SBA. If you feel bad about selling out the PBA, you should put in for a demotion since you're all about honor...just saying. You're exactly the type of person that shouldn't be in the role of a supervisor with your mentality...this job is full of *******s like you making other people's lives a living hell you one way prick.
I would hold off on your congratulations for now. I'll be sending out some emails after the holiday to ensure this travesty does not occur. The May 2017 BMOC will not be entitled to exclusive undeserved rights and privileges. Don't you worry about that.
Looks like the only thing guaranteed is that everyone will get a raise above top pay cop which is a great thing and might stay there until completing the 4 steps to top pay sergeant so everyone , haters and dreamers please relax and let the chips fall where they may.

You know how you can tell Paul B is a tool? Cause he's claiming to be at top pay and trolling on the 2013 Sgt's board. At least Heatmieser is on the 2013 list when he trolls.
I was told that the city doesn't have to do anything because the issue will fix itself on March 3,2018 when the 3% kicks in. Anyone promoted before 4/7/17 when the new Pba contract kicked in was not affected by the pay difference so they don't have to do anything meaning you were not a member of the Pba and did not fall under that pay scale. apprently this happened in 2005 also. The union said they will try to work something out with the city but don't think anything will happen.

how can a sergeant with a higher list number make less money. That's like saying a cop Graduating the academy jumps to the year before top pay before the cop with 2 years on. It's not right!!
as it was explained to us when the Lt from Labor Relations spoke to my group a few weeks ago...if at the time of your promotion, you got a raise, that's all that matters. If the PBA ends up doing better and their top step surpasses the SBAs bottom step, the city doesn't care...the SBA signed a contract with no re-opener clause and the city feels it is honoring its contractual obligations. I haven't gotten a paycheck with the new pay scale yet but was led to believe that we would be brought to step 4( the step before top pay) since that is the first step that gives us a raise( similar to the idea of why detectives go straight to top pay). The Lt also said that the 2.25% Neighborhood Policing differential that the PBA got counts as salary in this evaluation. Whether we go straight to top pay(the next step) after our one year anniversary or the city figures some other resolution out I have no clue. I directly benefit from this and I feel it is insane. If the SBA were actually able to sucessfully resolve the issue and just raise all the steps to accomodate the new PBA top pay, I'd sign on. However, the city won't give us anything for free and I wouldn't be willing to give much up for that. Hope this helps, this what we were told. I dont understand why the city wouldn't want to fix this...you're talking 100s of new sergeants going to top pay potentially 3 years early...70ish thousand dollars times 3 years times the 100s of sergeants benefiting from it. if the city decides just to hold us at step 4 for 4 years, then its almost a non-issue as we would only be making about 2 thousand more than sergeants promoted before the PBA contract went into effect.
