New SBA Contract

Agreed this is the best strategy and maybe the threat of PERB will be enough to get the city to budge cause PERB will most likely side with the SBA

I will give Vinnie credit here. Ive given the union a lot of shit on here and sent them a lot of emails. This is the first time I have seen him single out the 1,500 sergeants who are getting screwed right now. He is actually fighting for us to get the pay we deserve. I will give him major credit for stepping up to the plate. Now its just a waiting game until the city budges. Maybe filing a grievance with PERB will make them budge.

This. Aint no way a third party signs off on supervisors making less than the people they supervise. City has to know that. Meantime new jacks go to top pay. Squeeze is on and the 1500 arent left out to dry. Cant fault it or ask for more, really.

Lets not give them too much credit, this isnt the best play, its the ONLY play. And all 1500 Sgts will be at top pay before a PERB decision will be made. Dont be fooled so easily. Vinnie and his crew accepted a 5th step. Without that step many of those Sgts would be top pay now and we wouldve settled.

Every year without a contract is thousands of dollars in interest not being earned on that money.

realistically how long would perb take? another year..? not all 1500 would be 5 completed years in rank...

Another year??? Pfft. If this goes to perb we will be waiting a minimum of 2-3. This entire thing is a disaster caused by Vinny and Co. Dont ever forget that. Dont let them try and blame the city. We are in this mess for one reason and one reason alone. Signing the last contract instead of waiting one more year to see what the PBA gets. Period.

Im all for acknowledging good work by the unions (e.g. PBA great job, LBA great job ) but please no one on here should be giving credit to the Sba. This is the same board that allowed Mullins to steal 600 grand without them knowing, same board to add a year to top pay and same board to get us in this mess. The cops got a contract over a year ago. Last April 4th to be exact. The numbers were agreed upon by every union. These cucks couldnt get it over the finish line. Please do not praise them for the top pay win. Sure 600 people benefited but 1500 are suffering. The positive for a few does not outweigh the loss for the majority there.

Like the uncle, most of us on here will get called up to the big leagues eventually and wont really care about how absolutely useless Vinny and the gang are, but its really malfeasance at this point. It took them over a year to acknowledge in writing about the 1500 members that are getting screwed. The lack of transparency and accountability speaks volumes about this administration.

At this point PERB is probably the best option. I wouldn't mind waiting, even if it takes another 2-3 years at this point. As much as we all dislike the situation its probably for the best.

Despite what Mayor Adams office has been stating officially, the truth is Lous moms sAndwichwright apprenticeship did not go well. It was over as soon as it began. She hadnt even been inside the deli more than 10 minutes and had just gotten her apron on when her first customer came up to the counter and asked for a half pound of chicken salad. She picked up a live chicken off the ground behind the counter (dont ask me where it came from) and ran it through the deli slicer a bunch of times before anybody could stop her. Even sweet Pete was horrified. Having brought great dishonor upon the deli, and upon the sandwichry trade overall, she was dismissed and sent home in disgrace. Fortunately, Lou had just finished brewing up a fresh batch of colt 45 upon her return home, calming her nerves. That was the elixir.

I dont know why the assumption would be that PERB would side with SBA. PERB is there to help agree on a fair raise, not pay disparity. The % offered are completely fair. So SBA are already singling out the 1500 & sacrificing them completely. The play here is to threaten PERB to come to a closer agreement on the disparity issue but if the City dont care, the longer well wait for the very same contract & 1500 sergeants getting shit. The long this goes, the more votes Vinny gets. Dont be blinded. SBA isnt doing shit for us.

Vinny must have paid several of you to give him praise or you're not out on the streets doing supervising work, day in and day out, with the extra stress and responsibility while your officers on patrol make more then you. These guys apparently didn't know anything about the 600k STOLEN right before their eyes, sign a contract with DEBLASIO during his final month in office instead of waiting for a mayor who actually worked on this job, settled before the PBA and gave away a step which no other union had to do thus far even though they parrot the pattern bargaining line.

They emailed all of us calling us prospective sergeants and telling us why you shouldn't take the rank of Sergeant. Our union told current members and officers on the sgts list to NOT join us and this leadership is worthy of praise? They couldn't even bother to email only officers on the sgts list. No instead they email every single sergeant calling us prospective sergeants. Are you guys serious right now?

This top pay salary step thing FELL into their laps and now they want to take credit for it as though they masterminded this scenario out.

They deserve nothing but vitriol and outrage at the way these so-called negotiations have been bungled. The way some of you casually say they have no issue remaining under this pay disparity must not have kids to raise, college education to pay for or must still live at home rent free. Those sgts under this pay disparity scenario who are parents are suffering with each passing day that they are not being compensated accordingly.

Whats the saying? Don't piss on my leg and try to tell me it's raining.

SHAME

Every Sgt I know in the Bronx, Brooklyn and even at 1PP - by not getting the retro and pay raises we lost out on thousands of dollars since 95% of everyone would have put it into deferred comp
we all lost money and the SBA is costing us more than we are going to get back- Yes we know the city hates its employees the SBA and should be a bit more flexible- if we go to PERB its going to be like around 2 years before we see anything. SBA is failing and maybe their needs to be new leadership.

First Time long time......before PERB doesnt a state appointed mediator have to take place first. Bring in the mediator and hopefully that can resolve it before having to go thru the long process of PERB

Many of us have spent the entirety of our careers in a contract negotiation / PERB hell hole... enough is enough. My next raise will be a promotion 2 years from now. Earned the other gold shield all for naught.

Don't forget, if you've been out of contract most of your career (as a lot of us have), you owe money to your pension. Which accrues interest. Our retro (if there is even retro) does not accrue interest. Make it make sense. Happy trails, folks.

Garbage union. Why not have the members vote instead of making a decision.

There are so many more questions than answers: Regarding the use of the phrase "pay disparity", what exactly does that mean? Does this mean that even with the agreed upon pay raises, those 1500 sergeants would still be making less than top pay cops? Does this disparity count towards sergeants that should have been making more than cops since Dec 2021 (disparity retro)? If those 1500 sergeants eventually get to top pay does the disparity issue resolve itself? The 10/12 hour tour issues weren't even mentioned - has that been resolved? What exactly did the city offer at this last meeting that was so unacceptable that perb has to be threatened?

Im going to do a deep dive into the Bylaws because something has got to give. I want them to give an explanation as to why they didnt sign. If in fact it is the pay disparity, put out a vote to the 1500 (which keep in mind is only 1/4 of the union)and let them decide.

This contract is not going to be signed until the 1,500 sergeants stuck making 97k are compensated and brought to top pay like they deserve. Cops get a raise in August, a top pay cop would still make more then those 1,500 sergeants stuck at 97k even if we get moved up to a different step. Retro should be from August when cops promoted went straight to top pay. Anyone not at top pay by that date should be getting retro at top pay from that date.

This is the first time that Vinnie has actually acknowledged us being stuck at 97k and making less then cops. I have been bashing him on here since September. I have sent constant emails to the entire union about being stuck at 97k and have linked this forum to the SBA multiple times so they can see how pissed off everyone is. So ya after 8 months of giving the SBA shit and hopefully having others call and email them Vinnie finally decided to reverse course. This is what we have been fighting for, to have the ones stuck at 97k brought to top oay. Remember on October Vinnie said we would not be going to top pay and we would not receive top pay retro. Hes done a complete 180 now.

This is not a fair raise, there is a piece of the membership that is not being given a fair raise and I believe a mediator would be able to see that.

You would think its in the citys best interest to settle and stop the instant top pay supervisors, even if it means bringing 1,500 sgts to top pay now.

If SBA had OUR best interest they wouldve never settled a BULLSHIT contract while adding a step before PBA got theirs. STOP drinking the juice dude. This Union sent out EMAILS tell you TOUGH SHIT dont take the Promotion if you cant afford it. Now they want to FINALLYYYYY act like they give a shit? Youre a fool.

I spent 7 YEARS waiting for a PBA contract, only to go BACK to waiting for a contract as a Sergeant while being UNDERPAID as my INTEREST & OVERAGE take a hit because of all the money that wasnt rightfully paid when it was supposed to. So here I am having to wait 4 full years for a fucking SBA contract when my next fkn raise is my promotion to Lieutenant. Fuck this union. I said what I said. Fuck this union. Were losing money every day!! The extra taxes we now have to paid on retroactive money. The lost of interest. The shares we dont have in our deferred comp. LOST MONEY. While rookie fucks are going to top pay.

What should have happened before this was they should have agreed to 12 Hour tours as long as the 1500 SGT were bumped to top pay

I am in the same exact boat as you, as most of us here that are pissed off about it. Ive been shitting on the union and sending the entire union staff emails for months about this. What have you done? After 9 months Vinny finally realizes that he cant make a deal without taking care of the 1,500 that are getting screwed. Im happy we are not going to get left behind.

This was brought up at the last SBA meeting. The city has lost about 78 million from newly promoted sergeants going to top pay. Supposedly the SBA has a plan once we hit a certain number. I am guessing Vinny is betting that they will fold eventually, but unless your on the board your not going to know anything.

Vinnys official stance from the meeting is that the union does not want 12 hour tours. They will not work and sergeants do not want to do them. We do not have enough sergeants to make 12 hour tours work. These are his words, not mine.

The only way the union will accept 12 hour tours is by the city paying us for it. I think that would be a great negotiating tactic but the union wont go for it.

Remember we wouldnt even be in this situation if we would have waited for the PBA to settle. I voted NO to the last contract. I tried to convince others to do the same, but when you have a bunch of greedy ass sergeants at top pay all they saw was the retro, not that it was a bad contract.

Because every vote will pass. Its how we got into this mess in the first place. The last contract passed with 77%, which is basically a loss in my book, but it still passed. The union is to blame because the last contract was horrendous and should never have even been put to a vote by membership. If I put out a contract right now with the exact same numbers as 2021, and giving ANOTHER year to top pay For future sgt, it would pass because its very hard to pass on money sooner rather than later, especially the way the economy is now.

The board is there to get us the best deal and be smart and act in the best interest of ALL of its members, AND FUTURE MEMBERS. They failed last time, and now, because they are incompetent and incapable of fixing it, they will take the easy way out and go to PERB so they absolve themselves of any responsibility. They can just say well we tried, this is what PERB said.

This entire situation since Mullins getting his house raided until now is a complete DISGRACE. Good people and their families are affected DAILY by other peoples greed and corruption. Its time for someone to challenge this board and we all force a special election to get the right people in charge. Enough is enough.

welcome to city employment. It has been like this every promotion cycle, some guys get over some guys get screwed. Youre feeling it hard this time because the PBA had such a great contract.

Well, at a certain point it is worth it for the city to jump 1500 Sgts to top pay.

Because by not settling, they are being forced to put every newly promoted Sgt to top pay. If they settle now, they can put the newly promoted moving forward back in the steps as long as the step is more than PO top pay. Or is the citys plan to promote every Sgt for the next 2 years during mediation and PERB straight to top pay? Its not worth it for them, that would probably cost more money over the long run than to give a fair settlement now.

How many Sgts have been promoted straight to top pay since 8/1/2023?

The fact that theres a weird underground grass root movement to communicate union intentions and missteps tells you everything you need to know about the state of the SBA lol.  How do I join? I have a huge shortage because of this nonsense. just sign the contract, Im making less than my cops and less than my cops who just got promoted.  Wheres the dignity.

This is pretty bad- honestly Villabong or whatever his name is has to go.  No confidence vote from me.   I truly believe they are purposely botching this contract to get more people to top pay so these rookie SGTs keep them in office.  They are investing in their own job security- all while over 4200 Sgts eat shit.

Something shady is going on and we are getting screwed. The money we are losing in our deferred comp/ithp etc is more than a fkin retro. We could have been investing into those and had more shares. Now we will get taxed heavy with no interest. So in turn we are not gaining shit. We need to petition to get new blood in. These guys are trash. 10000%

Theyve laid off MOS in the past and they can surly do it again. If the city continues to lose residents and continues to pay for these migrants, the city wont be able to sustain itself

There you go people! Realizing the money were losing on Interest/DefComp & the extra money in taxes well pay come retro. Youre all getting it. They needed enough rookie promotions to top pay to allow them to outvote us, and keep them in. Theyre scum. A pathetic excuse of a union leader. Sacrificing the best interest of 1500 ppl for his own.

Is there anyone who knows for sure or is there a way to get these guys out other than an election? Vote of no confidence? Perb deals with numbers. The numbers are agreed upon. They arent going to deal with the 12 hour tours and being compensated for them. Were also out over 2 years already. So now we go to PERB and only get two years. Cost a bunch of money and wastes a bunch of time. And then its settled and we still are out of contract. Vinny if youre reading this. Please do the membership a favor and step down. If you dont have enough decency to do that, ask the membership what they want and not what suites you best. Youre a fucking waste of a union president. The only other more useless person whos ever been shoved into a position of power was Governor Patterson. And he was blind and can see what an absolute asshole you are too.
