List a few weeks away

Tony just posted a response to another user saying he cant imagine the list not being established within a few weeks.

When the founders post,  although in a case like this we are speculating, but I feel that their word carries more weight since they have been doing this for so long and can make predictions based on history. That being said do you guys think this list gets established before the Lt exam and no promotions til after the Lt exam or No list established until after the Lt exam (which also encompasses that few weeks time frame)?

IF (and it's a big IF) the list is established early February, I'd expect the first class to be end of February / early March. Sgt vacancies are incredibly high at the moment (Captains vacancies are also high), so I see no reason why the job won't continue having monthly promos.

IF thats the case those who scored really well will get lucky. I personally dont see anyone from this list making it on time to take that exam. But then again that means no sgt promotion from now to ending of march.

3 months without a class is nothing. There have been numerous times over the years of longer gaps in between classes.

I completely agree. The job could easily survive many more months without Sgt promos, and that may end up being the case. But I'm saying if the list DOES come out within a few weeks, I see no reason why the job wouldn't want to continue to roll right into another promo, especially considering the high vacancies.

Yes for sure, if the list established soon, at least one class is very likely.

that is probably the path of least resistance. Promote after the exam is administered, but for our sake, established a list ASAP.

The job needs to start hiring more cops. This January recruit class was supposed to be much larger then what went in. I can see headcount delaying things but we shall see.

yeah but when you go on a hiring frenzy look at the caliber cop that you receive. Iab is going to have their hands full in the near future.

I dont see anyone at this point taking that Lts exam. The captains list has been established, are they promoting from it starting this month ? If so, then it takes roughly a month for people to start to get promoted off an established list. The Lts exam is march 23 (?), so that would mean the sgts list has to be established by late February for people to take that exam. Unless of course it gets pushed back

I dont see it happening either. The only reason I thought there was a chance was because you are going about two months without a sgt class. But our peers remember a time where theres been no promotions for that same time frame, meaning it isnt out of the ordinary. So now I def believe we wont make it to take that test. But like I said before that doesnt stop you from establishing that list even though no one gets promoted off of it til later.

During the previous situation that the job went without promotions for 3 months a vacancy of over 500 sgts as well ?

no clue bro it was a shock to me. Then again I never really payed attention to promotions til now. But @Noice & countryroads were the ones who shed some light on that.

Exactly. That's the major difference between the circumstances of now vs then. About 10 times the vacancies.

To the above posts, YES, the job has gone months without promotion for 3-4 months when vacancies were high.

Remember, the job wants more cops on the streets. They aren't hiring them, so they're getting them by eliminating certain admin positions per command and by not promoting cops to Sergeants.

Stay hopeful that they put this list out soon and start promoting right away, but I wouldn't bet on that right now.

This is a delusional post !If youre refereeing during the pandemic then your post is irrelevant, and due to the pandemic the 2017 list was extended a year. All of our inquiries will be answered within the next month!

You do know that in 2009, 2011, and 2013 the Sgts list weren't that long right?
-The 2009 list was short by today's standards
- The 2011 list was around 1600 (which was a lot for those times)
- The 2013 list had around 980
So yes, they were extremely short Sgts around the early 2010's and couldn't put classes in for months because they had to wait for the list to be established. This is unfortunately part of the process with DCAS.
Remember, DCAS runs the show and they don't care about our vacancies or how many tour changes a Sergeant is doing because the precinct is short supervisor's.
If the list comes out end of January or February this will be the quickest DCAS has ever established a Sergeants list. Considering they were quick with our Captains list, it may happen for the Sergeants.

During the market crash of 2008 i believe the sgt list went 9 months without a class.

The city got smart and instead of giving a Test every 2 years they gave starting the curving to add more passers and instead give the test every 4 years. you know how much money is to administer these exams  from locations grading computer lawyers and paying the cops and to have the day off because cops donget the date for a promotional exam and dont come out of the cops bank.

In 2010 there was no Sgt shortage. Also not everyone wanted to be a supervisor and not being part of the 20 and out and not being able to ithp, 50-50, and overtime being pensionable forced those to move up.  Dcas dont run the  the city, Dcas will do what the city tells them. computerized exams Cant expect them to be the same as those that were not.

Your logic dont is irrelevant. As different times, different ways of exams being administered and different vacancies. Never have we seen special ops sergeant being used for patrol 3/5 days and also flip flopping their tours. Or a lt answering jobs because he has no Sgt on patrol and short of sectors As well. 500 Sgt vacancies thats about 10 % of all Sgt vacancies. Lets say 50 lts do go in late this months. Another 10 get the money and another 20 retire and also a class got sworn in two days ago of almost 600. Literally can cause almost 600 vacancies. Again next month will answer all our questions.

If you're first class or two you're crazy to not be studying. Maybe you waste a few months studying, but its better than wasting 4 years waiting for the next exam.

According to DCAS's online service exam dataset, the exam will expire on January 24, 2023.  You can click on the link below to go to the DCAS data set, hit view dataset, search 6540, and then look at the extension date of 1/24/23.

We are all eager to know when that list dropping but the worst question is asking from where most of us here share what we hear I dont think it really matters where the Intel comes from, obviously who ever has shared some info has been wrong so far about the list. no disrespect!!!!!Next week we shall see if not continue to keep those fingers crossed. No

the reason I ask, and I am sure you would agree, is because there is a big difference if you heard it from the guy who changes next to you on the day tour patrol as opposed to lets say your buddy who drives the chief of personnel for example.

hope so. It will give us peace of mind knowing where we stand. Idk why bro but I can see them establishing that list in feb like you guys are saying but I dont see them promoting off of it until after the test. If u are in that first class and you studied hard, I hope you do make it to take that exam, you deserve it.

I saw that too. 1/24/2024 but Thats gotta be some sort of glitch or mistake. Why would they extend it a year they promoted everyone on it and a new one is weeks away. Doesnt make any sense.

3 people are getting promoted on Friday , 3 days after the list expires. Im assuming it was extended to legally allow these last 3 holdovers the chance to be promoted.
