If they promote lts then they will definitely promote sgts. If the promotion date is the 25th the sgts bmoc would start probably on the 7th. So if its happening the finest will come down at the end of next week. We shall see.

Lts have over 210 vacancies available. Each day that passes the number goes up by a few. Not sure about the Sgts vacancies but if the Dept decides to fill vacancies, you can add another 200+ vacancies from LTs as they will take from Sgts to promote and fill Lts. If both ranks have a deficit of 200+ vacancies that puts Sgts well over 400+ vacancies.

Heres what I was told: a request was put in to City Hall for 70 LTs and 140 SGTs, but City hall wont get back until after Labor Day. I dont know how long after Labor Day or how much they will approve. Ie: if they would approve all of the request, half the request or none.

Since when did city hall have to approve promotions?

Source from CAD said October Police Officers academy is a no go, normally they wouldve been notified by Monday if it was going in to get all the staff in academy ready. Also another source is saying October Sgts class is 50/50 depending on City Hall. I honestly think theyre not going to promote anyone until they figure out this whole lay-off thing through out all the agencies. Its a bad look to promote sgts and lts when they lay off civilians a week later.

Who gives a **** if it's a bad look, commands need sgts badly. Enough is enough.

Layoff will not affect PD and at today's rally the comptroller himself said Deblasio just doesn't know how to count and the cash is available.

Hey guys, I heard from someone in personnel that the Dept is trying to put in classes of 100...? If this true, did anyone else hear this? Not sure if I should believe that.. I always get my info from here. Its depressing no class since June.

History. Last year was the same thing, nothing for the summer then September boom 80. Last year they didnt have anywhere near these vacancies. All this budget nonsense will have no affect on promotions, especially for Sgt. Its a drop in the bucket when you are talking about billions of dollars. The job needs bosses badly, and .00001% of the budget isnt going to stop that. Also, most cops make less money as a boss for the first few years anyway. I believe there will be September promotions and I believe it will be a big class. Just my opinion.

Yes budget has nothing to do with promotions. I guess the fact that promos havent occurred since the budget was slashed. Nothing to do with budget. Crime rampant, precincts have less sergeants and lieutenants but apparently nothing to do with budget.

Why didnt they promote last summer? Was it because of the budget?

When was last time we had -200 vacancies?? Trust me the promotion is part of the budget. Drop in the bucket is normally correct. But w everything being scrutinized, the old way of things isnt true right now. Lets see, I can tell you though this budget crisis is no way helping promos speed along

They could start the 14th and get promoted the 25th and finish out that last week as a sgt. They have done it before but the job can do whatever it wants. We shall see.

Who said there wasn't a class last summer?? There was a class last year. My friend was in the class, also did mentoring! This August 30th made 1 year as a sergeant. First detail as a sergeant for that group was the West Indian parade last year.

I was told by a legit source last week that there wasnt going to be a September class which turned out to be true, and that there was a 50/50 shot at sgts and lts in October with most likely no discretionary promotions. He also said no new academy class for October and that the promotions have to go to city hall now for approval which wasnt done in the past.

There is an Academy class Of 200 cadets starting in Oct they submitted budget request for LTs 9/25 promotions and Sgts in Oct. this is coming from good source at plalace. Dont kill the messenger not trying to be a troll.

The sba was told that there was going to be 150 new sgts, this was three weeks ago and he felt it was wierd because thats too much for one shot. Then I was told by someone else September was off and October was 50/50. Theyre saying that city hall has to approve everything now so it sounds like were just in waiting mode for the ok.

just rumors but hearing whispers of 40 LTs and 60 sgts for sept. i understand that its a bit late now for a bmoc notifications but maybe theyd still promote the 25th and go back to class a week or two. hopefully a sign of small but monthly classes and not 1 small class and standstill till 2021

You mean not to count on any promotions for the lower ranks. Top executives continue to get theirs. SMH

As per Lt. forums there are a wopping 255 Sgt. vacancies with 77 on terminal. On top of 188 vacancies/terminal leave combined for the rank of Lt.

But it doesnt appear there will be any Sgt. or Lt. BMOCs. This is insane ....

Can we see classes of 100+ in 2021 then ?

These numbers are only going to grow as I believe this October a big group of 20, and 25 year cops can retire.

So essentially if LTs promote their lost headcount of 148 retired and 40 on term (which I believe is way higher as per Chief of Detectives), plus the fill the 255 Sgts with 77 on term, that essentially gives an approx 520 combined opening for Sgt rank alone.

Question is... is this the authorized headcount which can be filled? I believe these numbers are off by a 100+ or so personally between ranks.

Suffolk just cancelled two classes and froze promotions to save money. This state and especially city is in horrendous shape right now.
