current climate

whats everyones input on the current climate and future promotions? Will the possible disbanding of bureas like school and traffic effect promos? Will the budget cuts halt promos?

Just wanted to get a good idea of what the future holds for this list. Thanks in advance all & Stay safe.

All i know is there are literally hundreds of sgts without a position right now. Its a crazy unpredictable world we are in.

Also, all these people retiring might balance out these disbanded units to an extent.

People retiring will definitely help move the lost along..but we shall if the budget cuts offset it

Captains and above seem never to retire. I dont think many will leave because of the climate we are in.  If SSA and TEA leave the umbrella of the NYPD that is going to eliminate a ton of executive spots....

do you foresee Lt and Capt promos slowing down?

I think LT promotions will be steady.  captain promotions could freeze if a bunch of executives need to be reassigned from SSA and TEA

I disagree, if they start eliminating spots those people will leave. Do you believe that some Captain that wanted nothing to do with precinct life is going to stick around to be the XO of the 44 if they get booted from a 9-5 Mon-Fri gig. Trust me, all ranks on the job right now want to GTFOH right now.

Budget passed. Where does this leave us? Rumors of discretionary promos being postponed hurts our chances of getting promoted. Just trying to gauge the pulse of other Lts. No LSAs or LCDs and shuffling of inside Lts also a bit concerning. POs and Sgts have been vocal on the forum, weve been quiet. Just trying to spark conversation.

Weve been told it all boils down to vacancies. Did the budget effectively reduce the overall UMOS headcount? Does that apply across all ranks? I guess its just a waiting game at this point. When does this list expire?

I think this prob wouldnt effect captain promotions in a negative way. This job is becoming undesirable especially as the rank of captain. Very little leadership and direction from the top but many responsibilities and accountability still fall on the captain rank. I can see many calling it quits and hanging it up leading to new captains being promoted to fill the void. Who really wants to deal with being called to a level1 or a disorderly crowd crip walking and shooting off fireworks in front of you, telling you they know you cant do sht about it. You as a captain will be held accountable for anything that goes wrong on either side? I can see old timers saying fck that im out! I Also see many in cushy details getting bounced back to the real world. Tbey will leave too. Discretionary promtions may come to a halt for now, but the job still needs sgts-capts.

Any word on vacancies and people on terminal??

I was informed that there are 14 captains running their time/on terminal and 33 DI through DC are running their time/on terminal. Remember some people have 60 days on the books and some have 3 years. Not sure how that effects vacancies. If anyone knows for sure that would be helpful.

If a DI retires does that create a Cpt vacancy?

No. Each rank has its own headcount.
