Anyone in top 100 deferring?

Anyone in top 100 deferring promotion for Det shield or know they will not be in first couple classes due to a series of unfortunate events? I know there are 3 that were promoted off the 2011 list in top 100 Of 2013...

I'm #49. Not sure if I was making first class or not but not seeing the review board until Dec 7th. From what I was told by PO that notified me, she said I'm there with atleast 2 other guys that day. What's even more unfortunate is that she had no clue class was going in Nov 30th. She said they weren't told that and would have made appts earlier if they knew that. Salt in the wound!!

Hey Shaun, if it's any consolation, if you pass the CARB interview you will still be promoted with the first class. You will just go into the next BMOC asap and you'll be a SGT for the course as opposed to being a cop.

I think you would have to write a 49 to EMD explaining that you want to defer your promotion.

Negative, you must do it now. Call EMD and they will give you more details.

It means you voluntarily get skipped over. It's done for various reasons. Some people are on the Det track and want to get made first so they will be a top pay sgt immediately (if I'm not mistaken) after promotion.
Some people have a good gig and may want to hang on to it for a little longer.

They stopped doing this a few years ago.   You go to whatever the closest step is to your current pay.

We've been through this 100 times already. If you are a top pay cop who has his/her gold shield for 1 day you go to top pay Sgt. The only step higher than starting salary for a DT3 is the top step.

Seamus is right! If you know you're going to get a Det shield in a month or two and you're a top pay cop then defer. I got a Det shield just recently and first step for me a 3rd grade detective is $ 86,341 granted you get promoted from being a top pay cop. That's higher than a Sgt just before their last step which means they have no choice but to give you top pay as a newly promoted Sgt. How do I know this? Bc I'm personally going through it.

Lol. People either don't want to believe it or are blinded by jealousy

Are you guys thinking next contract would screw anyone who was promoted to Det or Sgt out of some retro?

Matt I think you mentioned charges from CCRB in an earlier post. If the charges remain unresolved (still awaiting trial) then you will not be promoted. You cannot be promoted while charges and specs are pending or in progress.

Ok i have charges from ccrb the incident happened in 2014 was suppose to go to trial in August but of course it got postponed till December so I guess I have to wait for this non sense to be finished my understanding was that ccrb charges wouldn't hold me up really sucks

Yea, I can almost guarantee you that is why you were skipped. CCRB charges usually don't stop you from getting made in the long run, but no one can be promoted while they're awaiting trial on charges and specs. At least your trial is coming up soon, hopefully you get a successful resolution and can move on with your career.

Is it a fact that you have to go to carb for charges and spec from cccrb even though a plea was taken with no penalty just instruction. Anyone had personal experience with this. Thanks

Yea there are certain things that trigger a review by CARB. Charges and specs are one of them unless they were dismissed or you were found not guilty.

Charges does not equal automatic carb though.  I know 2 guys that lost 20 days each for different things and did not have to goto carb.

If your charges are very old you don't have to be CARBed. I got my charges over 14 years ago and didn't have to go to CARB.

just curious...doesnt apply to me, but if you voluntarily defer, do you get promoted upfront when you elect to take the promotion?

if you defer your promotion you don't get promoted up front.  you are voluntarily taking your name off of the list for X amount time that you see fit.  I was on the 2011 list and deferred my promotion over a year  ( June 28th 2013 was supposed to be my SGT promotion date,  I was promoted to Detective in early 2014,  I waited till Late 2014 to take the Sgt Promotion because i liked being a detective).  The benefits of deferring are with out a doubt worth it.  Who gives a **** about Time in rank when your pay jumps up over 20 grand.

I did the same thing.  But I got promoted up front. Even had to wait a week for bmocc to start. Another guy did the same thing with me. They just had us hang around the academy for a week until bmocc started and we went through it already promoted as sgts.
