To train recruits. They didn't build it so you could get promoted faster biggrin. Fear not, your time will come.

Seriously man, at this rate the 2013 list won't get touched until the last quarter of the year. Almost 2 years after the test was administered, effing ridiculous !!!

Even more ridiculous when looking back, the 2011 test was in October and they were promoting off it by April 2012!

I have to agree with you guys. I am getting annoyed that the 13 list is just sitting there. The should of gave he test at a later date. I really wanted to study for LT.

No point getting upset about it. At least there is light at the end of the tunnel for us. A lot of people are trapped where they are. We have something to look forward to!

no That's terrible Brat

It's just upsetting when you bust your ass, score within the top 10% of the list and still have to wait years to get promoted.

What do you think was even the reason to give our test so quick? They could've given it in October 201444 and still had plenty of names left on 2011 list. Makes no sense to me. What you guys think?

No rhyme or reason really. They may have projected a greater need for SGTs than the reality actually presented. Either way, as others have said, I'm just taking it all in stride. I'm in the top 50 on the 13 list and I'm kind of happy that I'll have one more summer of fun before taking on the added responsibilities and stresses of being a supervisor. I'm in a great detail right now and am enjoying my final 7-8 months as a cop. I know patrol is a different story and it can definitely suck but take this time now to enjoy the things about being a cop that you will lose when you move up. Spend time with friends at work, burn some of those extra days, if you're into OT, grab as much of it while you still can, try for that last "good" collar. All things that you'll probably miss when you're sitting behind the desk answering two phones at a time, dealing with a crowded fishbowl, and a holding pen full of edp perps.

On the surface I'd think that as well but it probably costs the city more to administer the test than the exam from filing through grading than what they bring in through fees. I think it was based on here's the number of eligible people we have to promote and here is the list of current sergeants who are eligible to walk out the door today.

I think they gave it as a safety net.  So many sergeants are over 20 or upcoming this year.  If SBA settles like LBA and DEA and you can cash in terminal you're going to see a mass exodus.

I don't know you nor do I care to know you, but YOU are what's wrong with this department. All you do is come to the 2013 forum to be negative and talk nonsense to the members on 2013 list. We have all the right to be upset about how slow this process is and if you don't like us voicing our opinions then simply stay out of the 2013 forum.

A right to be upset? Did they promise you a certain date they would start hiring off the list? Act like an adult and not an impatient 5 year old. Of course I'd like it to move faster but you're acting like a spoiled little girl.

I don't think arguing about any of this will make things go faster. The reality is you have a long time to wait. If I were on the top of the 2013 list I would sit back and relax. Or maybe try to get a command level detail if you don't have one.

If you are on the bottom of the list and your a good active cop maybe you should explore outside detail options since you may have a 2 - 3 year wait. Getting your detective shield earns you top pay from day one and its a prestige's rank to have on a job application when you retire. Not to mention that there is a whole other exciting part of this job you really have never seen in OCCB or DB or ESU etc.... And guess what ? If you don't like where you are when you get your detective shield don't worry! Your ON THE LIST :) So set some career goals and get your mind off this list. Actually doing something with your career earns you brownie points if you want a detail as a boss or you want to got to the squad or back to ESU etc..... Not only does the shield give you $$$ it opens doors later in your career.

On the other hand if your a do nothing cop who just wants to collect a paycheck every two weeks and you passed this exam.... Go get a hobby like finger painting or coin collecting and STFU. your time will come. You just have to wait and stay underneath the radar for a bit.

Great advice Spartan thank you for being a productive member on the forum. As for Sumadre, sounds like perhaps you should take your own advice and act like an adult and stop trying to be an E-thug.
