This just in!!!! The Polar Vortex has frozen the 2011 list.... Will not defrost until April when the 2013 list comes out ... Damn you Mother Nature... So close
That's right nobody knows anything... One year ago yanosik started his first class with this statement " nobody knows if the last 200 to 300 names on the 2011 list will be promoted ... And if I was one of them I'd be studying for the 2013 exam -- Mike Yanosik ( Jan 2013)...

First, if someone is allowed to say "this list won't be cut" then another is allowed to say "this list will be cut". It's too funny how some people cry "we don't know anything!" but only cry this when someone states the 2011 list will be cut. As soon as someone states, the list won't be cut, they "agree" and believe it is the truth! You guys want to hear what you want to hear.
My own personal opinion (which doesn't mean a thing) is that the 2011 list will be made by April 2015. No cuts!
Second, Son of Jor is right, NO ONE knows anything! We can only have our own opinions which on this job mean nothing. The only one we can depend on with some reliability is thebrat. So let's let her do the assuming.
Finally, I would like to hear ANYTHING on the 2013 test. Like when we get our official score. It seems no one has heard a peep about the test and are only posting assumptions. I already know it's going to take a bit for the list to be active, but I'd at least like to see my official score and see where I stand!
My thoughts are if the number of people who passed are as low as being rumored I do not think the list will get cut. What they would probably do is when it's almost done assuming around April 2015 and announce another test for late 2015 giving those on the 2013 test time to be promoted and a new list would be ready. Have no reliable information I did protest questions and have not heard anything on my protest. Not sure if there is a time limit on the response of a protest. When I get a response I will let you all know. Congrats to all who pass.
ManHands Brat Does Not Have a Crystal Ball To Look That Far Ahead For The 2013 Exam, especially when this 2011 List is not yet done. Patience is a Virtue Fella....

We at The Key wanted to share this article with you.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.Happy HolidaysCan Bratton Build Faith In NYPD Promo Tests? As proprietor of a test-preparation school geared toward promotion exams in the NYPD, I wrote an article in this newspaper in December of 2006 questioning the fairness of promotion exams in the Police Department. In response, a professional from the Department of Citywide Administrative Services wrote in a letter to the editor that exams are developed by working very closely with a panel of Police Department Sergeants and superior officers. And therein lies the problem.
There and a few other places. An Unpredictable MessThe process of developing exam questions is unprofessional. These panels are made up of members of the rank who have no particular education or experience in creating questions that properly assess the ability of the test-taker. The result is an unpredictable mess of minutia with no professional standards. The process does require input from the fieldespecially in policing. But the crafting of the actual questions and the structure of the overall examination should be done by experienced police professionals who have the necessary knowledge and experience of the field but also have education, training and experience in how to create a professional exam.Little Relation to JobDCAS is supposed to play that role but doesnt. A recent example is the last Lieutenants exam where the process was left entirely in the hands of one individual Lieutenant who holds a PhD in English.
The exam questions were so far removed from the job description of Lieutenant of Police that 20 of the 100 questions were thrown out or changed. That is unacceptable. To its credit, DCAS realized that mistake and, for the next Captains exam, brought in a Captain who actually works for us in our test-preparation school, The Key, and so has the necessary experience. Mr. Mifsud supervised the preparation of a Captains exam that was administered and promulgated with no changes. But Captain Mifsud is now retired. These two anecdotes illustrate the instability of the process. Students just dont know what to expect. Especially after the most recent Sergeants exam administered this past October.Piling on the QuestionsThree weeks before the October exam, an exam which most students spent the better part of six months preparing for, DCAS announced that the test would contain multiple-choice questions which will be used for research purposes only.Every exam for the last 20 years consisted of 100 questions and lasted six hours. Notice that the above-quoted last-minute announcement did not say how many of these research questions would be included in the still-six-hour exam. There were 30. The test-takers found this out when they sat for the exam, not a minute before.
There are standards in the industry of testing where we see research or, as the College Board calls them, variable questions such as on the SAT. However, it is made known well in advance exactly how many variable questions/sections will be asked and each section is allotted its own necessary time period.DCAS gave us half a loaf. If industry standards are to be followed, they should be followed for the entire process. The College Boards variable sections are developed by Test Development Committees which are experts in their fields and oversee all aspects of test development to ensure that the test is carefully designed. Why Fewer Cops CompeteIs it any wonder that members of the Police Department have lost faith in the process? Over the last 20 years the percentage of people in each rank that sit for these exams has dropped dramatically. Will Commissioner Bratton take steps to fix this problem? If history is any judge, he might.
When Bratton became Police Commissioner in 1994, there had not been a Lieutenants exam administered in nearly eight years. During his tenure, a test was announced and developed by an outside professional entity which was well-versed in crafting a promotion exam. The 1996 Lieutenants exam still stands as one of the more-challenging-but-most-job-related exams in recent history. Lets hope history does repeat itself and that faith in the promotion exam process gets restored.Mr. Monaghan, a retired NYPD Captain, holds a master's degree in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and is proprietor of The Key, a test preparation school for NYPD promotion exams.
But dont forget the 2009 test when we didnt get our scores for about a year after the exam
That's incorrect. The scores were sent 6 months after the 2009 exam. Didn't activate the list for well over a year though. And when it comes t list cuts it isn't going to happen. Just be patient.
Really so your telling me i got my score in six months? I'm telling you that wasnt the case. I didnt get my offical score card until right around when the list came out and that was about a year.
I think the 2011 exam lost came out in April because it was time to promote off it. If they're going to run through this entire 2011 list, I'm not expecting the 2013 scores/list until about February 2015. At the rate the job is promoting, that'll be about the time this list starts.

Well I'm telling you I remember otherwise. I got my failure score on that test about six months later. Could've been 7. List didn't start promoting for months afterwards though since I know because my partner passed that one. They waited for the 08 to finish and the first 09 list class was combined with the last 08 list class.
I agree with everything else you said except with the time it took for the scores to come out. I know it took that long because i was stressing that i had a 68 and i was waiting for my official score to come out to see if any protests helped me.
Honestly not like it really matters at this point. At some point the 2013 list will come out and as much as we all study past trends we all know the city does whatever it wants when it wants.
Hate to start a rumor but curios if any others heard the possibility of another sgt test being announced January 2015 to me it sounded a little crazy but I was at a detail and borough cops and bosses were talking about another test being announceAt around that time.
The only way a rumor like that could be true is if the rumor of the 13 list being only 300 is true. That would make a combined total of 900 people to promote between now and next summer/fall when a 15 list could be ready. It's possible but most likely not true, especially with how slow the 11 list is going. At its current rate summer of 15 will probably be when the 11 list will end.

The 2011 list will be still be going til at least March '15 if this rate of promotions keeps up. So I highly highly doubt there will be another test in the works for Jan of 2015.

There will be a fall 2014 exam. Especially if the current exam list will finish on or about March 2015. This fall is ideal to give an exam. One has to figure with protests throw outs and such, promotions off a fall 2014 exam will start to occur in late spring/arly summer 2015. Just like the 2011 exam.

^^^^ What I'm saying is that they won't even start the 2013 SGT list until March/April 2015. So why would they give another exam in 2014? The 2013 exam will start around April 2015 if the pace stays the same for the 2011 list. If they START the 2013 list in April of 15, then you can expect a test probably in the late summer/fall of 2015.
