Question About Medals Points

One of my bosses told me today that you have to actually call some office to apply your medals points to an exam.  Is this true?  He was trying to convince me to hold off and use them on a future lieutenant exam as it's more competitive.  Apparently you can only use the points for a medal once.

Maybe Brat can clarify?  If true, what office takes that call?

Thanks in advance for the answers.

i believe they are applied automatically. Mine were, i had no choice to use or not to use. So if you submit as a cop, thye will go towards the sgt test. If you submit new ones as a sgt, they will apply to lts test. Also, the run and jst are the same situation.

Mine along with my colleagues were all applied automatically. I made no phone calls or submitted any forms for the points. I don't think you have a choice in using them or not.

You can't save them. Whatever medals you got as a cop will automatically be applied

Ok so medals as a cop will automatically be applied ? Regardless of deadlines ?
Heres my question, hopefully someone knows this technical question.

If someone earned a medal on September 1st 2015 but the incident of this medal occurred June 2013 (PRIOR TO THE EXAM BUT DIDN'T GET APPROVED UNTIL AFTER THE EXAM) does the medal automatically get counted in ?

Are all medals earned prior to Sergeants Test Activiation counted and can possibly bump you some spots when they create the NEW REVISED 2013 List that was spoken of in the above posts ?

Or ONLY MEDALS earned prior to exam date counted for the exam?

Is there a cutoff date for medals to be counted on the 2013 sgt exam ?

Curious about facts on this. Since i never even knew medal points could only be used "Once" as stated in the above posts.

Only medals that have been approved as of the publication of the original list are included in your score. DCAS does not include medals approved after the publication of the list. I called and asked this question already. Any medals earned as a cop that don't make the cutoff to be included in your score for the SGT exam will be included in your score for the LT exam and so on and so forth.

Medals "granted" on or before Test Date

will be counted toward the exam.

That info is listed on the exam filing notice above in  step  C

thanks again

hey guys,

does anyone know what a "MPD-Integrity" Medal looks like ?

because there is "Commendation - Integrity" which looks like an "MPD" - Bronze Star in the center

An "MPD - Integrity" came down (without ever applying for one) for a Bribery Collar years ago.

The below info helps and contradicts in some way.. "MPD" on one and "integrity" on the other

Does anyone know for sure what an "MPD - Integrity" Medal looks like ?

It is a regular MPD on your breast bar.  It will just appear as a different category on your CPI and PEPR.  It will stand out at interviews, but it will not look any different When wearing it.

AND DON'T STACK THE MEDALS!

Very simple if you had the medals awarded to you by exam those medals will automatically be applied....you do not have the opportunity to save them for a future exam. All my medals were applied to my score and it bumped me some names and that's why I can answer with certainty....when you get promoted write up more medals that way you can use them for the LT test....the only thing you can save is the military points. I know LT's that waited for the Capt test to use those points but I have no idea what the process to save those points and choosing when to use them is

Medals are good, but you guys should look into run/jst. ONE run+jst is worth more points than ANY medal
Especially for future lt exam which is usually much more competitive and u gonna need any help u can get

FYI; you can earn .5 a year from completing the run/jst and bank up to a max of 2.5. One point on a Sergeant's Exam is approximately 100 names on the list if u pass.

My question is not when do the medals get applied as i have previously supplied a photo of DECAS' instructions on the medals being applied automatically. My question is WHICH MEDAL is it, for a "MPD - INTEGRITY" because there is "MPD" and "integrity, under Commendation", and this seems to be a mix of words From each medal. But its prob just an MPD anyway
