which means yes--they really do plan on enacting this new list when it is established. for whatever sick reason people think I have to lie I will never know, I just don't want the people on the tail end being totally disappointed.

Really??? Ban ondeeeair??? From what I have seen his info has been mostly reliable. I'm not promoted yet and I'm studying again. And, not because anyone here says the list is getting cut... But because I have my own very good sources and they say it might too. I guess if you want to "kill the messenger" then go ahead, I guess.

Here we go again. I won't believe it until it happens. Why because things change like city hall will in January. Like the upper echelon of the police dept will in January. Also how this decision can be made when not one person has passed 2011 Sgt exam yet. They don't even know how many will pass nor how many people are retiring from now until April and they are cutting the list? Yes I am one of the ones at the end. But I'm not saying this because it makes me feel better. I'm saying it because NOBODY KNOWS for sure. Just like with that August class. When Brat said there wouldn't be a class and guess what happened. There was a class. This same crap went on with 2009 test and everyone speculation was incorrect. I'm not just talking about them exhausting the list either. Everyone said it was going to be a couple years to take it took less. I don't blame ondeeair he is just trying to be helpful I get it. But I've been in this department long enough to know things change drastically from one day to the next. Call me optimistic call me naive. But the only answer there is...time will tell.

I think its hysterical that the job has all this supposedly planned out without even knowing how many people are going to pass the next test. Meanwhile all these people making "plans" could be gone in jan anyway when the new mayor comes. For God's sake every single time a promotional exam is given we are guaranteed to eventually have this same nonsense argument that the list is getting cut. "They want the cream of the crop so this list which is only 2 years old is going to be arbitrarily cut so that new list can take its place blah blah blah". I was promoted off the 2008 exam and the same nonsense was being spread about that exam. I'm currently awaiting promotion on the Lieutentants list, and when I hear rumors that they are already looking at making a new exam it makes me happy; not anxious. The reason being is because it means that my list is going to move and they anticipate that it will be exhausted and that a new list will be immediately needed to keep up with vacancies. You aspiring Sgt's should feel the same way about any upcoming exam. There has ZERO exams with a 70 passing score that have been arbitrarilycut withwithout either being exhausted or run for 4 years. The 2006 lt exam had over 1200 people on it, and it was not cut, it expired after 4 years. So can we please stop the nonsense.

I hope your talking about the fiscal year because that would be after the establishment of a new list. I'm pretty sure Civil Service law requires an active list be open at all times. They can't cut one list before another one has been established.

It is what it is... don't worry about those who don't believe you. Everyone just wants info that is beneficial to them. Point blank there was talk about the list being cut as soon as list was published. when hearing of another test those towards bottom of list should of all considered filing and taking the test to be safe. I've heard talk about list possibly being cut but personal opinion I think the decisions will really be made when they get the numbered passed from this current Sgt Exam

Didn't people say they were sure the last test would cut? Looking at previous forums this same conversation came up. I understand that after a year they can cut the list but what I don't understand as to why. Don't give me that cream of the crop nonsense, if they wanted high scorers then the department would put in place a higher passing score. Let me remind everyone this test is only a little over a year old and half way finish. One last thing I don't want to hear what this Chief saids or that Chief saids, the decision is up to the PC.
