When ondeeair says the list will get cut, PEOPLE BE LIKE...

Glad i was able to help everyone who passed, it sure did help me get on the list with protesting that question.

Based on the way the list has been moving and the average promotion rate every 12 months our list should be at 1300 most likely by May-June the latest. Therefore the future list of the 2013 test will only be inactive for about 8-9 months since it will be created around April in regards to the 2011 list, which I think it will be done by Dec/January 2015.  If by chance it takes longer at the very least the list would definitely be finished by April 2015.  Which is now this magical 1 year of inactivity mark we are now speaking about.  When it comes to the instructors at BMOC they do not have any more insight than any one else on this job with what will happen to this list. Similar to my theories and others all they have are their own theories. We will see what will happen. Until then it's pointless to talk about it. In the end this job most likely will not cut eligibles off a list,  Especially not knowing how many retirements are coming the following year and how many promotions are left on the current Lieutenant list. Lists are left inactive all the time to complete current lists. It's a practice continuously followed with these promotional exams most recently the 2009 Sgt's list and the 2012 Captain's list.  Again, you can not compare lists from ten years ago that were cut with failing grades. The practice is not followed any more.  To give a passing grade and then cut the list by shortening it based on what some one now newly considers acceptable before it can legally die would be marking on a curve again which we all know does not happen since implementing a passing score of 70.  These topics of "my guy told me this" or "based on past exams" or "will the list be cut" are just plain silly because in the end unless 1 main important guy in the Dept says anything to address these topics, any question about lists, facts on lists, the knowledge of a mystery "guy" who supposedly is hearing things, will not know more than you or I.  Which is realistically nothing.

ive said this before, the bmoc instructors have all put in their opinions that the list will be cut. This coming from when i was promoted in 2012. But like brat said, these are just opinions and we shall see coming up real soon how this will all play out.

Actually it is helpful in many ways to remind people that based on past exams, large lists are frequently cut. Why? They can use this bit of knowledge to hedge their bets and have the time to study to take another exam and perhaps do even better on. Even if the list is not cut, that preparation could pay dividends for a future Lt exam too.

What is not helpful is to act like exam lists are guarantees towards promotion and not to worry at all on the fact that large lists usually do get cut. That helps no one bc you have a false sense of security and could be messing with other peoples' careers if they just believe that. Smaller lists of just a few hundred make everyone eligible or not in some sort of trouble due to so few people.

Now once again, I have no inside info on a list cut, but as we get closer to this new exam they haven't even promoted half the the people on the current list, it is looking more and more likely. Anyone know what they are currently saying in BMOC about it?

 This list will die with at least 50 pass overs.   It's just that big.  Every list dies with pass overs. Every 100 they promote there is a handful of pass overs for every handful they put through.  So I consider the list more than half way through.  And really it's you maybe who shouldn't be a supervisor since there is clearly something wrong with you. You've posted the same thing every week for over a year. I don't even know how you haven't been banned yet.  You clearly only do it for trolling reasons.

I am just trying to set the record straight and bring some actual facts to discussions I read that are clearly loaded with bad info by adding good accurate info. But I never once claimed I KNEW the list would be cut and as of now it still hasn't been so one can cling to hope...

 Correct me if I'm wrong but the lists that were cut didn't have a passing score right?  Also, some of those lists were in the 2,000's or close to it.  Yes this list is big, but because we have passing grade, I don't really think you can simply compare this list to others lists.  I dunno.
