Thanks for keeping us posted guys. We all appreciate it. I hope they def decide to put in classes in September and October. The more the better. On a side note, has anyone noticed the increase in retirements in the ranks of sgts and above ? My command alone had three, two with 25 plus years and one with 20. Maybe it's a city wide thing and that's why the city is promoting so many bosses... Just a thought.
ive seen one at least who i thought would never retire get out recently so i think its citywide. the sentiment seems guys want to leave before things start getting taken from them
OOOOhhhhhhh as I write this we have just been informed by computer school superviisor that she was told to get ready for a big class coming in for September!
Ha ! So you think. Told that starting Sept. New weekly activity sheet that we have to scan into a system so all the brass can micromanage cops some more. If you ask me , next they will expect Bosses to make collars and write summonses to make up for the lag.
Hahaha, that would be great! I would take all the ground balls and kill the city in overtime! I don't see that happening. maybe the summons but it will be tough.
Could the number be 100? A small class is about 40-50, a large class is about 70-80 so could a vvveeerrrryyyyy lllaaarrrrgggggeee cccclllllaassss be 80-100... On a serious note, the number will probably be around 75-85. I don't have any inside information but I can't imagine they put a class of over 85. Also if they decide to also promote Lt, the number of sgts would decrease as well. I have heard another Lt bmoc class will be going in either September or October. Not sure of the number but I would imagine at least 20. Lets keep all the rumors coming! Where is that guy that said no promotions after Feb.??? Guess he was wayyyy off!
Just informed that they will be putting 80 for Sept. Another 80 for Oct and then undisclosed number at end of Oct and promote those upfront in time for Lieutenant exam!!!!!!!! Yikes. That same lieutenant came into class yesterday and whisked approx 4 people out to sign up for 9:25:25 AM exam. Guess can't say the job never did anything for you.

Haterinyou............you are 100% correct - they are making a big move to get as many cops promoted to sgts as they can in time for them to take the lt exam.
20yrsentence.........my blackberry does the same thing and it drives me nuts !!

I'm glad they are doing that - but the only baffling thing is, since when does the job care if anyone is eligible to take the test or not? With or without the extra 200 eligibles, there will still be a lot of people taking this test.
Do you guys think I should study...Im in the 690's.
If I have the opportunity, I dont want to half ass it. I would do 4-5 hours a day from now till the exam. At the same time I dont want to study hundreds of hours for an exam that I wont be eligible for...

Study!! What do u have to lose? If u won't make it, u have a head start for next time.
High600s, don't look at it that way. Even if u don't make the exam u will be brushing up on sh** your gonna have to know anyway. So study. It can only help. :)
Is it possible for the department to keep promoting at this rate next year also? I am taking the Oct exam and Im just trying to gage how long it will take to get promoted depending on how I score
You can't really gauge...There are way to many factors like economy, cop to sgt ratio, amount on list, retirements, movement, budget, lawsuits... Its pretty safe to say that if you score above an 83 you will be out no later then a year from today...Anything lower is unpredictable.
High 600's you will certainly be close but still closer than you we're a month or so ago, no. I would study those class lessons and go to not one but two cram sessions. If you wait any longer then I won't even bother. Really study and if you don't make it then you can sleep better at night knowing it was being your control. One of the class instructors says: "Don't wait for a raise,...Take it!"
High600s - I'm in the same boat and didn't think it was remotely possible that I would be made before the exam. Now that there is a chance, I will be putting in some time, but not going crazy. Cram courses start in Mid September, we should hopefully have some more info on how many they expect to be Pre-Promoted, helping us make a decision on spending countless hours studying and some coin on the crams...
