An October class would be awsome.  Those who make it would graduate on the 27, and take the LT test on the 29!!!

How bout the buzz on a December class??? Taking the Lt would be nice, however, I got crapped out of vacation picks this yearand wouldnt mind having a december class and being off for christmas and christmas eve, and getting some shopping done while in BMOC in december... November class wouldnt be bad either..plus id save 5 vacation days Plus a few for parties..make my christmas list come true Santa Bloomberg.

Totally agree with you... Im bout 100 names away, but even if i was a boss for 2 months already, i dont understand how people can say "ok, i just got a gold shield for two months, i know everything as a sgt and now im going take the test to be a Lt."... I think , in my opinion, to get to another rank or position, you need to have good experience in each area, so you can be a good anx effective leader, there are exceptions to this, but i dont get how people are studying to be a Lt and dont even know how tyeir next command is yet...

The way I see it, you can either beat them, or join them.

Are you kidding??? They dont give Lt.'s exam often. If theyre giving it and you're eligible YOU TAKE IT!! The hell with "well ive only been a Sgt for two months, i need to learn the ropes first, yadda yadda yadda". you have to think about yourself and your future. To not take the test because of that is silly I think. You're just cheating yourself out of an opportunity. Dont forget you cant get promoted for at least two years anyway.

i have 15 years on and ill give you a bit of advice..this is only a job, its about money, pension, and most importantly mental well being.  if you have an opportunity to make more money, bigger pension, less hours, and answer to less douches do it!  with that said...take the exam if you can.  get off this job when your time comes and if 3/4 is an option at any rank, take it and run.

Interesting how people with veteran status on this board are saying you should have experience before taking the LT. exam in Oct;

Firstly by even if you get made as a Sgt in Sept. and take and pass the Lt's exam in Oct. , you will still have to wait to get promoted and still need to have the time as a Sgt before getting promoted to LT, no? How much experience as a Sgt do you need?

I have over 15 years on now and up until a few years ago didnt want to be a Sgt as badly as I do now and am already looking to the Lt's exam , why? Well I can say without a doubt that yes you cannot beat the injustices perpetrated against you by a boss just as well as you cannot replace the importance of being a seasoned cop with the balls to do what needs to be done when it has to be done. Time on the job does not mean you have what it takes to make the right calls and decisions when they count the most but why would you want some 5 year wonder or some burnt out seasoned Lieutenant telling you what to do ?

I have had nothing but strife as a cop in my command by bosses both seasoned and not; I have been transferred ,set up and even slammed with an unjustified Command B . I even had a boss attempt to assault me and had it not been for the ICO he would have done so. You want to hazard a guess as to what happened to that Sgt? Yes absolutely nothing.

My personality ? I am a hard worker and have not only excelled at what I do but have even implemented new programs at my command and received community awards throughout my career. I respect you if you respect me .
I am generally liked by my co workers but it's those certain bosses that have made my life difficult.

"If you cant beat them join them" , no. If you cant beat them keep gettin promoted so you can keep making a bigger difference! I am part of a specialized unit now where I am the oldest and have the most seniority and love those guys man. They have shown me they are willing to get my back on quite a few occassions and I trust them and their decisions with my life. On the other hand many cops with serious time on have nothing good to say about the job yet dont get off their asses and try and make a change.

The job is young and getting younger and that applies to all ranks and if you feel you need more time to be a better cop or Sgt before you can be an effective boss then you should have your head examined.

One last thing: Dont worry you'll have plenty of Cd's as a Sgt when you get promoted and if you think you've reached the promise land when you become a SGT listen to this one.........
There is a cop currently on our list in the mid 40's who has been passed over . He was a Sgt who got demoted. His crime? He banged a girl the CO was fond of. Yes the Co and the rest of the administration went after him until he had so much stuff in his file it was ridiculous. Even after his demotion the CO went after him some more and ........boom! got him again. I would love to know what this guy has to say about his desire to get made.

My philosophy? If you can get there , get there ; Take the Lt's exam!

Hating you, you sound like a good person to me, anyone who wants to improve this job in some way, should definatley get some reward... In my time on this job, over half way to retirement, i can honestly say ive had less than half of my bosses, that were actually nice to have as a supervisor, either they were totally fake, or the biggest scammers, and believed cause they had a shield they were indestructible.... Dont get me started on females and relationships... I made the mistake of that too, i think the biggest piece of "sheet" is a cop, boss, etc who hooks up w another workers " intrest" cause whats that original cop gonna do? Punch and beat the **** out of him?? No, cause if he doesnt have a hook, etc he or she will have along carreer, just like the person someone spoke of above, i mean if im out and someone flirts w my girl etc, and we arent both Mos, then you bet your tail he will have to deal w me..... Anyway getting bk to the point, i appologise if it a nerve, i did say theyre are exceptions , i forgot you needed 2yrs in rank to get promoted. But i know of someone, like im sure we all do, a person who will be in the top of the Lt list, that maybe should wait a few years...oh well not my concern.... I just hate the cops, who just care bout their signing out and not giving a **** bout the next cop which could save alot of bullshoot for the next cop.... For some reason, i was thinking a cop who becomes sgt now, takes the Lt test, scores high, could be made by May 2012 is just mind blowing..do what you gotta do, and stay safe!

I don't think too good to be true. Nothing has gone as planned this year.

I think the way it's been going, there might be a good chance there will be a sgts bmoc every month from now until the end of the year. Maybe not 75 every class but I think they will put in a class of at least 40 until the new year. I have no inside information, I'm just speculating.

BTW I really hope a class goes in September.

Also anyone know any info on the skip overs? Where they modified? Lack of college credits... There just seems to be a lot of skip overs on this list. Then again this is the only list I ever followed. Is it usually this many?

There's usually not that many. Almost 25 percent. That's weird. There were some back to back names also

In bmoc now the Lt said they expect to have a class every month till the test. No mention of the size. He also mentioned they expect more capt and Lt promotions as well.

So the rumors are true about the list being finished by years end...There are exactly 285 names left...What do you guys think the projection will be. if they put 60 a month in until January, that will pretty much finish it up and some.

We have had 3 back to back already, that doesnt sit right with me based on history...They usually have a lengthy pause after l
arge promotional stretches.

Yes. One of the next two should be very large. 110-120 promotions through october. I think 625-650 should be eligible for Lt exam.

Thanks for keeping us posted guys. We all appreciate it. I hope they def decide to put in classes in September and October. The more the better. On a side note, has anyone noticed the increase in retirements in the ranks of sgts and above ? My command alone had three, two with 25 plus years and one with 20. Maybe it's a city wide thing and that's why the city is promoting so many bosses... Just a thought.

Wow, I was hoping for a bigger class but 40 should get me in. Maybe they will put in 40 in September then 80 in October... It's possible. I will tell you guys, the Lt is in the know more than we think. I personally asked him last November, when he thought I would be promoted by and he said you have a good chance of getting in by October possibly September. I kind of kept it in the back of my mind knowing it was just an estimate but now I see he pretty much nailed it. I am less than 40 names away so given I don't get skipped over and there is indeed a class in either september or October, I should be in. What I am saying is pay attention to what he says, when he speaks pass the info out to the rest of the guys on this board. We are here to help each other out. Not saying anything about the current people in bmoc because you've been passing the info on, I'm just saying for the future guys that go in. Let's keep the info alive an all help each other. It's always great to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
