Of course not. Just dont want to work in manhattan. especially since Lirr doesn't go anywhere near WTC. Seems like a strong possibility that a small sgt class would be destined for WTC w/ the recent orders for all the cops getting transferred there.
I thought the same thing but why would they put brand new sgt in a new command without any experience? My thinking is rookie sgts with less than a year on will be grabbed for the wtc command and this class will be filling those spots. Just my thinking but this is the nypd so anything is possible.
Experience has no bearing IMO. The job promote cops that have been in impact for 5 years with no patrol/sector experience. Plus what supervisor experience do you need with the WTC detail?
Sgts are promoted based on a "ratio to cops" on the job (1600 fresh recruits running around the academy right now) lts and capts based on a static number needed which never changes based on cop population size
reason why its a low number is because there gonna have a LTS class, A Capts class and now a sgt class going on at the same time. With a full building there is no room
There is PLENTY of room.........trust me........8th floor has TWO large rooms (sgts & lts) and captains are given also on the 8th, but on the other side of the building........and the 1600 "kids" are a few floors below.........space is NOT the reason (i dont know what the reason IS, but space isn't it)
I heard the instructor tell the SBA guest speaker today that they would need him again next month because there will be another class in the 40's going in.......good news and good luck, and to you in the back, only 3 questions a day!!!

My guess would be somewhere around 600. The list is up to 449 with about 41 going in August bringing the total to 490 (not counting any skip overs), so if one or two classes go in before the exam of rough either 40-75 in each class that would bring the number up to 570 upwards to 640 not including any skip overs. I hope they do two large classes to get as many people as possible to be eligible for the exam but I who knows what the city has planned.
I'm in that boat of being eligible if they put a sept and oct class... Don't know if I want to spend the money and get the lieu's study material or just read the pg.
Guys I would dive in head first and hit it like you mean it! The benefits outweigh the 800 bucks you would be flushing down the toilet if you were not to get called on time.
I would say that if you are below 560 you must give it your all!
20yrSentence I understand and would have to say it' gonna be a nail biter for ya but it will be what it will be and it is out of your hands.
Now matter how you look at it this job of ours does not define you and so I suggest you pay attention to what is within your control like your health. Grab this one life you've got by the balls and hang on for the ride!
NYG37, are you positive? The reason I asked is I need shoulder surgery. I dont know whether to do it now or wait till AFTEr bmoc at my new command. Obviously Id go sick then instead of now.
I hope nyg37 is right. However... Just to let you know... I am between 41-50 names away.. And I was out LOD... Where I need to have surgery in regards to that incident... And it was my Dist Surgeon who said that I needed to be put back full duty to get promoted... Just in case I got called...
I'm not saying nyg37 is wrong. My DS may have been wrong. But I just wanted to let you know...
