List will probably get cut. The winter months need big classes because we will have small summer classes, if any at all.

Budget cuts affected promos in the past. How is today different ? Genuinely curious.

I do not remember the last time budget cuts affected promos in the past. Job has continued to promote , even during covid. Budget cuts can affect new hires yes, but not civil service promotion. The city has a huge budget. Our measly promotions dont put a dent on it.

Back in the financial meltdown, the city stopped hiring cops unless you were a cadet/ traffic agent/ school safety. This was 2008-2010. If they stop hiring cops, they need less supervisors. They wont completely stop promoting but itll slowdown. This is just a scenario Ive seen play out before. there is a class of about 1200 in the academy right now Which is good for now. If they continue to hire, then promotions will continue. If they dont itll slow down

There are two classes in right now. Both well over 1,000 (say 1,100+). The outgoing mayor Adams appropriated funds for two classes of recruits, 1 in August and another in December. Thats over 2,300 cops . One class graduates in March and the other in July . Since our financial year is July - July , the new budget will start July 1,2026. The question being will Mamdani reappropriate the $$$ to hire 5k new cops in next 5 years to get our workforce up near 40,000. If we keep hiring and the classes of 06,07 and 08 retire after 20 years,  all ranks will be replaced all the way up to chief.

I'll tell you this Adams did this by Design. He basically backed mandani into a corner. If he takes the money that was supposed to be used to hire more cops away then everyone including the news is going to have a field day on him basically saying that he defunded the cops even though he said he wasn't going to and believe me he's going to receive a lot of backlash possibly even from the police commissioner and maybe even all the way to the governor. So there is a chance that he may just leave it alone or he may just completely take it away and think that no one is going to say anything and try to basically talk his way out of defunding us but it's not going to work

Honestly the only thing that he can probably do is completely eliminate our overtime

Yes agreed on both accounts. I think Addams did this as a fail safe and put into play despite Mamdani winning. Although he said he is all for public safety , he also said he doesnt see the need for more cops and that 35,000 is enough . With crime happening in all Boros and if he fails to keep his word to hire 5k new cops is a recipe for disaster as it looks like hes defunding. Completely cancelling overtime would be one area to save massive amounts of cash and reapply to his agenda .

Im curious who would complain if he took $$$ for new cops. Would it be the people who didnt vote for him or would it be all citizens of NYC ? Im positive all unions will be in an uproar in NYPD but he hates the police . What will this prove to his constituents ?
