As of right now it would be 695-696 if everyone goes through, people always get passed over for any reason though (and there are list #s already promoted)
If they sign there will be larger classes. Because they will save tens of thousands of dollars on each new sgt. Rank is short atm (compared to p.o)
I think it depends on where they are as far as pay . i Honestly dont know the numbers for PO but if 5 year PO is at the step before last for sgt , then yes they will go to top pay . basically the way it works is you make more than your previous rank . Detectives got screwed in the past that Werent top pay detectives because guys who werent top pay got stuck at the 4th step because they realized a pay bump even tho it was like $40 more it was a pay bump.
Guys are going straight to top pay now because whatever the step before last step is for sgt as long as you make more than that you go to top pay . I know it sounds confusing but thats the best way k can explain it . Hope it helps !
If you are not a top pay cop, if you get promoted you will be a step 1 sergeant. After 5 years a PO pay is $62,872. With longevity and differential pay $79,329. A step one sergeants pay is $96,017. The only reason people are going to top pay is because a top pay cop makes more then a step 5 sergeant, therefore they have to put you at step 6 which is top pay.
Basically it depends on what the pay rate is for a 5 year cop not at top pay. The current SGT pay steps are basically 96,000 for steps 1-3 $105,000 for step 4 and then $118,000 Last step which is too pay.
If the 5 year salary is more than $96,000 and 105,000 than that cop will go to top pay. If its less than 105,000 but more than $96,000 than that cop will not go to top pay But will go to step 4 If its less than both $96,000 and $105,000 that that cop will go to current step 1 which is $96,000

So if Im a cop that got promoted yesterday I had 5yr 1 month- I guess Im at base pay Sgt?
Idk what the current Base salary is for a 5 Year cop if its less than $96,000 than most likely you will go to Step 1 base pay SGT which is $96,000. Im not saying Defer depending on your situation but I would strongly consider it if Financially it makes sense.
So im just confused as to what the hold up is (im sure like all SBA members). But it greatly affects some of us who really need a big class when they ratify the contract. Last time they ratified a contract the very first class after that was around 150 (correct me if im wrong).
Is it the 12 hour tours? Pay? Or chart time. Just so odd how it took so long despite literally every other union settling. I doubt this has happened before with a single union other than PO.

It seems that theyre trying to negotiate a formal agreement to prevent sergeants from ever getting paid less than their subordinates again. Theyve been very transparent in saying 12 hr tours are off the table and SBA will not be doing them. They were also clear when stating the pay raises have already been agreed to and cannot be adjusted at all.
The sgts work 1st,2nd and 3rd platoons.day tours just show up everything is already done for them. (Roll call and turn out the cops bc of the start of tour time), 4 by sgt have the most work, you do the 1500 10 hour tour roll call, the 1800 and 1900 roll calls as well. Then the midnights come in to just transition into already finalized roll calls, but at 0630 they turn out the day tours. Its confusing but its been going this way for almost a year for a lot of Bronx commands.
How do you know you will get Carb? And what is it for ?
Call Risk Management. They will clarify any of those questions.

Best advice! they can tell you if you have a hold. I was told that any penalty needs a disposition, and you'll only be carbed if the penalty is more than 10 days. however that was 2 years ago and I think the job is not giving as much weight to ccrb charges, but you still need to get OK'd to get promoted.
