THE ELEPHANT(S) IN THE ROOM.

With the PBA contract being ratified, and a top pay cop making more than most steps of SGT come August... What's the consensus with the SGT pay scale? I hear so many rumors I don't know what to believe anymore.

Every sgt goes to top pay...

Cops make more till something is agreed upon from the Sergeant's union (Which seems eerily SILENT right now)

there some city charter law that a higher rank can't make less than a lower rank (if this is true what/where can we find this law?)

WHICH OF THESE IS MOST TRUE???

I've already heard the union won't agree upon extended tours unless there's a pay bump... We all know they'll eventually agree to it.

What say ya'll?

The PBA contract was ratified, and cops base pay has already been increased past a starting sgts pay. But, the cops wont see this money until July 21st when they get their retro for everything up until that day.

I think when the PBA had their last raise, it was immediate and sgts got pushed to top pay. I dont remember having to wait a few months like what they are doing now. I think they are doing it this way now to prevent that from happening again.

I think there is a rule that starting sgt pay has to be a certain percentage higher than a cop. In any case, you can pretty much expect a raise to current top pay if youre not at it, and for those who have time in rank then possibly a bump up to 140-150k base pay. Contract will be renegotiated before July 21st, and everyone not at top pay will probably be held at their new step for a few years.

I find it hard to believe that nobody on this forum knows an actual somewhat concrete answer, or what can be done or what will be done.

The uncle has reason to believe that there wont be a sgt class until the Sba settles a contract.
Hopefully Vinny vallelong can figure this out.

The City has bought themselves enough time to hammer out a contract to avoid having all newer Sgts & those not at top pay, from going to top pay. Hence the July 21st paycheck due date while the new % kicks in Aug 1st. The city knows what its doing. SBA also know theyre going to get the same % in the end. At this point, just a waiting game.

It doesn't matter if they sign before or after July 1st. The PBA contract is already Ratified so on paper PBA members are making more than SBA members so it either way they are going to put SBA members to top pay or Step 4 if not Grievances will be filed by SBA on behalf of members and it will get done. This is why the SBA is discussing this rite now all it will do is adjust members to the CURRENT top pay not the new top pay in essence whatever step a new SGT is on will be bumped whatever the agreed % is on say 17% for example

The current top pay will automatically be the 1st Step without a doubt

It wont matter Current Top pay is 118,000 the PBA top pay next year is gonna be 109,000 so in order to keep parody for next year SBA will have to most likely bump every SGT to 118,000 and adjust the pay scale for the steps as appropriate
