Just by the number that doesn't make sense. 4 guys from my precinct passed. Give or take a few in each command would bring a conservative number to around 400 - 500.
Think logically, if the test just finished.. you really think dcas calls the NYPD 4 hours later and says yup 250 people passed? No..sorry NYPD doesnt work like that
I am not saying the rumor holds true, but if you really want to use the logic argument, you do know that these tests were computerized and connected to a system right ?
And after the 4 sessions that system can give you a preliminary amount of passers from the 4 sessions literally instantly ?
You have to put in the time. Study hard and you will see the results.
Even if I did double the work I still would not have passed because packets alone did not cover some of the test. In basket would have been great since I do great on that.
If you don't read the guide, you will fail. Point blank.

Theres something called meetings where people meet up and talk about things who the f is having a meeting at 10 11 pm? we dont call other city agencies by phone to discuss important topics like this unless its an emergency
Of course, I feel defeated and dont have a logical explanation for what this guy pointed out so let me attack his score.
Sure, says the guy whos making a logic argument by saying a computerized test thats connected to a server needs some sort of Meetings and phone calls in order to be validated somehow.
And this is exactly the issue with this job. Too many people with zero common sense who pass exams and believe their score somehow makes them more intelligent then the next person.
I asked a simple question. You could have said sounds like BS bro and moved on.
If statistic from votes are anywhere close to reality then its more like 25% passed which around 600 raw score passers so the curve does not need to be crazy to reach 1200 with throw outs.
I have not read the guide and I have passed 2 promotional exams now. I have only studied the packets and questions provided with the course. Never opened a patrol guide. I throw out the PG and interim order updates. I do not use the digital guide. Stop claiming absolutes. You do not need to read the guide to pass. This test was hard as hell for me, mainly because I chose to not read the guide. But you can 100% pass without reading the guide. I should know, I just did.

For what its worth and Ive said it all over this forum with people attacking me, I got an 85 raw on the 2022 sgt exam and I just studied yanos packets and I didnt open the PG once. Also did his videos, questions, etc, but nothing from the actual guide. take it for what it is but Im going with Yano for the next Lt exam and hopefully for the Capt exam.
71. Day 1 - 8:30AM. Only studied the Elite packets, watched the videos and took notes. Studied about 3-4 hours per day for the last 6-8 months (maybe a little more). Did about 500-600 questions, primarily from the main chapters (212,207,208, and 221).
For me the question is, if I had only read the Patrol guide, could I have scored higher?
I'm not sure. Reading the Patrol Guide without a sense of direction is almost impossible. It means you'd have to assign every single procedure the same level of importance to make sure you don't miss anything. Do you know how long it'd take to cover all that material?!
I think the test was kind of petty. It wasn't to measure the proficiency of supervisors, it was simply to see how much you were willing to read material outside the Elite/Key packets. Reading the whole patrol Guide, doing the packets, plus having a little bit of luck was probably your best bet. Also, taking the test on day 2, especially when it was basically the same exam...well...what do I know...

If you're still a PO you can not speak about this Lieutenant exam.
Got mine as well, I took it day 1 first session. Very fortunate I passed with a 75 but I studied 5 hours a day everyday and increased it to 9 hours 2 months leading to the exam. Highly challenging exam. I give a lot of credit to the rising star, those challenging frustrating questions helped me immensely. I bought all 3 courses as well(The Key, Rising star, Elite). The crazy part is that a lot a people gave their all studying and received scores in the low 60s. Dont know if they will be a curve but I hope theres a few throw outs for those that dedicated so much.
Im going to be the guy that gives a shout out to all the day 1 warriors. Unlike the new generation who took the Sgts exam who came out and cried, Lts day 1 guys are silently taking their losses. We see you, we hear you. Day 2 got the same exact procedures and while this exam was hard as hell, they still had a BIG advantage. Day 1 people, stay strong. You arent forgotten.
Respect to day 2 people also, its not your fault. But to the ones walking around promoting and saying day 1 people telling them where they went didnt help them, sit down and be humble. You had an advantage.
I was day two and failed, but I also deserved to fail because I just couldnt put the time in effort into it like I used to. That being said, this test was tough enough that being day 2 wouldnt have mattered. You really needed to study very hard for this one. No amount of info from a day 1 test taker would have helped you if you didnt study to begin with.
Although you could have picked up a few points being day 2, the wording was crazy. Even if you wanted to cheat it was almost impossible with the way those questions and answer key were worded.

Congrats but there is a major issue at hand if someone dedicated 63 hours a week for 8 weeks for an exam and walked away with a 75. To be very fortunate to pass a promotional exam after sacrificing all those hours and whatever time away from doing what you do off duty and away from your family is a systemic issue in the way test are written.
The point everyone here is missing is that DCAS and the Dept do not care about what is fair at all. They write these tests not to be fair but to ensure they are difficult enough that everyone doesn't pass when they get raw numbers they see what they need for promotions and adjust the list accordingly. Its never been about being fair I agree its def a shit way to decide promotions but its the way it will stay forever. At the end of the day you do the best you can and hope u make it. Congrats to all that made it and I truly hope all those that failed in the Mid-High 60s pick up enough to pass.

If the names of writers are correct then I know three of them and two out of three are real pains in the you know what when I worked with them for petty reasons. One of the writers is getting promoted to captain on 31st. God save people in the command shes assigned to.

Drop their names so I can thank them for the great exam they wrote.
Lets not do the name thing. Not cool. Lets stick to sharing news and information such as what we can fight at a protest session or trying to get in a FOIL request to DCAS for preliminary numbers.
It's pretty shameful the way this dept offers promotional tests. Every one gets worse and worse. I never heard of any other department offering junk like this. They actually test your knowledge on the material and your understanding of it. Im sure there were plenty of day 2 cheaters also. They were the same questions.
Everyone points at city and Dcas but we wrote our own exam. Don't forget that. Our coworkers went out their way to trick you and not be fair, not the city or Dcas.
The questions were not 100% identical, but they 100% went to the same exact procedures CONFIRMED. Many, many day 2 folks are remaining humble about it as they should. Very honorable of them but some fools are really going around saying it didnt help. These are the tools we will have running commands one day. The honorable ones are admitting it helped a TON to their close ones.
DCAS and the job dropped the ball. The exam SHOULD NOT have been given on 2 different days.

Idk man. I feel like I spoke to 6 different people and I got 6 different versions for the math and cims question. I actually wonder if the same session had different exam versions. Unless people are just lying
Lying is common. You are going to have many day 2 people say they didnt get a question or a variety of. They are going to defend their reputation. Its a lie. Both exams had very similar questions, different answer keys, but day 2 knew EXACTLY where to go and read.
