Requests for Records Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL)
Requests for Records (FOIL requests) may be submitted to DCAS for copies of agency records. Questions or comments about exams, personnel issues, or other agency operations should be submitted to the appropriate DCAS office.
FOIL requests must be in writing and can be submitted by mail or email to the Records Access Officer:
Records Access Officer
Department of Citywide Administrative Services Office of General Counsel 1 Centre Street, 19th Floor North New York, NY 10007 foilrequest@dcas.nyc.gov
In submitting a FOIL request, please include specific identifying information about the records being sought, such as the type of records, the time period of the records, the subject matter, and the bid number (if applicable). This will allow the Records Access Officer to more easily locate the records that youre seeking.
Please also include your full name and contact information, including your address, daytime phone number and email address.
Before submitting a FOIL request, you may wish to check the DCAS website for online records, such as recent bid tabulations, recent contract awards, or the list of upcoming exams. In addition, NYC Open Data includes numerous DCAS datasets, such as active eligible lists for Civil Service examinations.
Certain fees may be assessed for records produced in response to a FOIL request. There is a fee of $0.25 per page for paper records, and additional fees may apply for records supplied on a USB drive or for the preparation of electronic records.

I took yanosik class along with the key cram and rising star questions. Ive taken yanosik for LT test and did very well but this time around I felt like yanosik questions were more geared towards the lower ranks. Not many captain questions, hence why I switched up gears and got the key cram and rising star questions. My score was in the 70s which was disappointing since I studied HARD but if it wasnt for the key rewrites along with rising star questions, I would have without a doubt failed. Obviously everyone is different and this is my personal opinion but if u really want to secure a passing score, take rising star questions, either class and just stay consistent.
I agree that the key to victory is key or elite PLUS rising star
No yano absolutely dropped the ball on this test as far as his elf quiz bullshit. Every quiz I did with him was 80 percent sgt and LT duties. I talked him up huge bc I passed sgt and LT with him and at end of the day you have to study everything. But his elf bullshit was a very sgt exam friendly with limited captains duties. I'm not saying that's why I failed but as far as his quizzes go, it sucked this go round.
I stopped doing his elf questions for this very same reason.
That clown did enough damage for the Sergeants exam,.....glad some of you realized and jumped ship last minute. For all the guys reading this, stick to The Key and Rising Star!
Stop with the nonsense. Every company has pluses and minuses. For the cops crying about the sgts exam. how many of em read the goddamn guide? And you think the key gave a better effort with their captains packets than yano? Go look at the keys 212 packets. 2 questions on aircraft violations, really? Or how about the fact that in Active Shooter the Patrol supervisor verifies that ESU, TARU, HNT, BS, EMS, SRG, CRC is coming yet the key packet stated that the Patrol Supervisor confirms that it's just the ESU, TARU, HNT, BS AND EMS. Seems like #OneManShow consistently proofreads his material unlike the collection of experienced executives at The Key.

Although I do agree that Mike's questions for his Captain's course sucked (because he rarely had any Captain's questions), I can't fault him for my score. I passed, albeit with a 71, it was because I read the entire patrol guide cover to cover. I didn't score higher because I failed to do the Rising Star questions (which is huge disservice to anyone studying right now).
Mike is NOT to blame for anything, he's a guide. It's up to you to read the patrol guide and admin guide and focus on what you may feel is important.

I used Elite and RS. The Yano guide with the notes is great but without RS insane questions...don't know if I would made it. At 74...likely not.

In the past I use fast track and failed hated it. Yano was the only good quality instructor. Passed the Sgt exam with just Yano. Lt I needed Elite amd Key questions. This time around stuck with Yano, hes proven and the elite guide is close to none. However key did not offer question app and was highly disappointed. Elite was geared towards sgts and Lts so I needed a supplement but no supplementing reading the actual elite guide (my salvation) and sgined up for RS once the price dropped. I did sign up with Key at the end with the deep discount but lets be realistic was too much, basically gave them my momey but did not use any of it. Elite and RS was were it was at sorry Key. If you dont read lines straight from the PG you will not pass an exam like this when studying from cliff notes. Key us just cliff notes with no actual PG lines. Yonos packets are prioritized cut and paste from the PG with emphasis on the important stuff and key concepts. Thanks you Yano and RS! RS though can be a mind fuck need to realize that the entire test is not a trick on you. 70s on TS is good enough lmao

Talk to some of the execs on this job,.......they will tell you the formula for success (The Key + Rising Star).

I never read the Key once and passed all three tests. Everyone studies different. The most important thing is what you do at home, not at the class.
I took the 2017 caps exam, the first exam on computer. The day of long questions are over. I don't know if that's a concerted effort to minimize eye strain (prob fucking not) but these questions are more brief now.
Anyone that passed shouldnt protest. Plus there are no questions to throw out. Only spelling errors which didnt have an effect on the questions. Half the Capts rank has less than 20 years on. Its going to be a slow 2-4 years. A bottom heavy list doesnt need anymore passers.

I kind of agree. If youre in the 80+ youre absolutely golden. If youre in the low 70s then why would you want more people to possibly pass and leapfrog you with seniority/bonus points etc.
Protests only really help the people in the 60s with this exam.

I have to agree with that assessment. A lot of people scored from 70-73,......So from 70-73 it's a slow bleed. If you scored 74 or better then things will move a lot quicker (senority points will bring you to a 75,76,77 etc.). However, if you feel that strong about this exam you should protest or at least show up and see why you got the questions wrong. It's totally up to you. You put in the work.
There are 356 Captains on the job. They are over 6 in vacancies. They just finished promoting 250 Captains in 4 years. 2/3 are not at top pay. A lot of these guys have less than 20 years on. Why do you want a list to go from 114 to 175? Im sorry to say but this is a competition not a rally to fight the job at the protest. The guys in the 60s are free to fight. But if you have a 70, its better to be at 114 than 175 on the list.

Agree. I say if you passed this exam, enjoy victory and live your life. There will be another exam soon enough. However, if you feel that strong then protest ,.....just don't complain when you get leapfrogged ,......IJS

Just so you know, if you had a 67-68-69 and i could help pull You Up to pass as I have, I would.
i dont care if i get leaped 1-5 spots. But theres a Brother-Hood amongest cops right? Where one passes and one can pull a person from falling.
its probably a product of growing up in struggles without anyone helping me why I would help someone else.
I hope you never find yourself needing anything from anyone ever. You sound like a D-Bag - get hit by a car so i can skip a spot up. tool.
