Probably close to 500 now. Add retirements next month, even after they get through this list, the department will still have a Sgt deficit.

I know this is a stupid reply but can we all just feel out the crowd regarding if committing to another Sgt exam is worth it as of now.

I personally am roughly 320 names away. Im go back and forth everyday and I thought Id open it up to the masses as ask everyone if they plan on taking this upcoming Sgt exam and if so how many names away are you? I want to gauge what you all are thinking.

Take the course. Study again. If you make it, youll already be in study mode for LT exam. Ask Yanosik to switch material over to LT maybe for a small fee, keep studying. Dont waste the time when you can be using it to either re-take Sgt or take LT.

Study bro, Im about 300 names away as well and i plan on taking Elite and studying until im promoted, then Im gonna study for the Lt exam. This Dept does not give a **** about you.  For anyone over 2400 start studying they really screwed people on this list when the skipped Nov/Dec now there are roughly 700 names left with a year to get through em I dont know if they will so my advice is study and hope u make it

I would say youre good.  Even on a slow year the dept promotes 400-450.  So I obviously cant bet this but I would say if youre 2400 or less youre good. But clearly never a guarantee and the whole list might get made who knows.  But thats a lot of people to promote in 11 months come February.

I heard Eric Adams will personally call you when your Promotion is up. I heard Santa isnt real. I heard theres no snow this year. I heard the groundhog wont see his shadow. If it aint coming from Truthseeker (or those more reliable) stop listening to the nonsense. Patience. Clearly this new contract ****ed everything up. But it still hasnt passed Union Member votes. They should vote down on it, its really not a great contract for selling out unborns this badly.

One more year to top pay isn't all that bad that is the only difference for the unborn. At least they get to keep their chart days, unlike the lieutenants.

May not seem like a big deal, but a year in this department feels like an eternity. Also, you have late bloomers, and Ill hit top pay in my 20tg year, so Id have to stay to 22 to make my pension worth it.

Anyone hear any rumblings about classes for January or February? Im hearing no class until End of February/Mid March, Im hoping my info is wrong cause if thats true I don't see more than 6 classes being put in before the list expires and unless they put in huge classes i dont see the list being finished.

Its pretty clear that they wont promote until after SBA Union members vote on contract. This city doesnt give a **** about YOU on the list or the shortage of Sergeants in precincts. All they care about is how can they save money.

I have been a Sgt for 5 months now. Working in a ****ty Bronx pct and doing all the tours each and every week I would suggest life was not too bad as a PO. If you guys are waiting to get promoted this will happen maybe in Feb. My point is there is nothing much positive about being a Sgt these days.

Everything he said I concur with not to mention all the baby sitting you need to do. Nothing is common sense and you need to tell cops every step you want them to do otherwise it wont be done right.

Just hit my first year in rank. I love it. My cops are on point. Even if we mess up, we fix it. No worries. If it is so bad, you can always return the gold shield and stay a P.O. There is nothing wrong about that. I loved being a cop now I love being a Sgt. Precinct cops are very young on the job now so they dont know everything. It doesnt bother me if they ask what to do. Im sorry that others have different experiences. Nothing is perfect and never will be on this job. We can only make the best of our circumstances. Somedays I learn from them, somedays they learn from me. We all know we are taking other cops responsibility once we get promoted so there is no surprises there. Its great being able to do things for my cops and be the person i wish I had when I was a cop. And thats the best feeling really. Hope yall get yours soon. Be safe and happy new year.

So go back to being a cop. Do it before next promotions so there is 1 more vacancy .

Thanks for your advice. Will think about it after the Lt exam. 400+ vacancies are there. One more will not make a difference. Anyway wish you good luck.

Lmaaooooooooo,.Its all part of the learning curve! Give it time, youll settle in just fine. Supervision has many aspects to it. Its not about sitting back and looking pretty. Some days will be better than others, but trust me its worth it in the end. Its about motivating your cops, looking out for them and creating a healthy environment (Leadership 101). Its a selfless rank,so if youre not into that, dont aspire to become a boss. Not worth itBesides, we have enough clown supervisors,.

I've been a Sergeant for about 6 months now. Like some people said some days are better then others. My first couple of weeks I literally stayed late everyday doing 49's, TRI's, LOD's, eval's. But once you get accustomed to it you learn to do your "paperwork " earlier in the tour so you not stuck staying late. I have no regrets.

Most sgts like myself are ok with the contract that is proposed. There are still some kinks to be ironed out. But I doubt the majority will be voting no!! The unborn will get sold out but that is always the case.

I've been a sgt for 5 months. It's not easy, but I am NOT running back to my white shield EITHER!! I work in a busy Bronx command. I've been blessed with a great squad. My cops are on the point. I do have 2-3 cops I need to baby sit but for the most part I have a great squad!! Yes it's a bunch of reports but we all knew this coming into the rank!! Just stay off your phone texting all day and start end of tour recaps early to get out on time ( unless there is a shooting then here comes the end of tour 49) if your doing the desk. We get 2 hours cash for 49's. Some commands don't give s***!!

Just my two cents!

Not a sergeant yet, less than 100 names away, but what are some of the end of tour recaps/reports? are we talking checkpoint, how visits, park directed? Or is there something totally different.

Every command does EOT recap differently. just Wait until you get out there. After two months you should get a hang of it and like others said start on that paperwork early unless you want to stay for time. Main thing is working out  system that works for you to get everything done on time.

Every command is different. It really depends on the patrol borough to be honest. When I first got to my command there were only 3 recaps. Now it's 6! And 3 of them go to the patrol borough I work in. But truthfully the recap depends on the day. If it's a quiet day. There is nothing to send. Some days are busier than others.

I have to babysit plenty of retarded cops without the benefits of being a supervisor.  I'll take the promotion.

This has been the trend the last few years. New rookies dont want to do anything. Zero initiative on their part and so the people with time have to be forced to be partnered up with them. The days of actually wanting to learn patrol/ the job have been gone for years!! All they do is complain all day about petty crap all day.
