Elite 100%, Yano made Fast Track what it was and Elite is the best hands down! His PG is excellent and get the RS material as well.

If you have any questions like that, from experience, I would advise to E-mail Mike. He is quick to respond most of the time. The lesson plan you are looking for is on his website. You have to register and log in. If you want the paper copy, it is distributed at every class.

That's a waste of time and money. Pick a class, follow the program, and study hard.

Its a total waste! Do one class and study hard! Youll get the questions from your friends that are going to other schools. To me, rising star is the best! They point out key points in procedures and focus on test taking techniques. Anyone can memorize the book, its all about approach,..how you tackle the questions quickly and efficiently.

Maybe this will help anyone who is just jumping into the mix. The Key and Elite are essentially the only two "full courses" this time around. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, and each is more suitable for varying study styles which are heavily a matter of preference. Neither will help you if you don't put in the work, and if you put in the work, either course will help you succeed. My concern with both Elite and The Key is the question quality. Elite's are the worst (too wordy, lots of errors, not really exam-like), The Key packet questions are good (not many of them), and the apps for both schools have very weak questions. Call me cynical, but they have a vested interest in ensuring you do well on their questions. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why...but the courses nevertheless have helped many.

It was told to me for my first exam that the best way to attack these exams is to tackle as many questions as possible, which is more valuable closer to the exam, when the knowledge is supposed to be imprinted in your mind as opposed to freshly learned because you just read it, which is when you're more likely to score well. That's why many exam vets will say the Rising Star questions are the best companion to either Elite or the Key, especially when you do them a couple of months before test day. That's when you still have time to focus on those areas where you really need work, which becomes apparent when doing truly hard questions. At least that what I did, and it worked for me more than once. Just my 2 cents. Best of luck to everyone!

Im def gunna do the exam questions for rising star. Like someone in this thread said and someone else...you can take all the classes in the world but if u cant answer the questions ur not in good shape. Rising star seems to have the best exam like questions and they are HARDER than the exam itself!! Im gunna to rising star question key questions and little of my own PG reading.

Think most people have picked a class by now. Also you can't sue for the test getting pushed back, lol

Agree with Guru! You can't sue DCAS for pushing the test back or keeping the NOE so vague. What would the basis for litigation be? The test is still going to be in June if it gets pushed back pass July 1st then 700 more cops become eligible to take the test as they will have 3 yrs on the job. Approx 11.5 thousand people signed up for this test.... pass rate will hover around 5%

5%? So only roughly 500 cops passing on test day? I find that very unlikely, unless they were trying to go back to the days of the exam being every 2-3 years. There is another round of massive retirement coming and a LT exam around the corner. Its going to be a fair amount on the list.

Agreed, I feel like well see fairer tests with larger lists. 5% is way too low

Can someone who took elite offer some insight, howd you do on yanos exams compared to the actual test? Im getting 90s/high 80s on them.

Let me save you some time and trouble. You get what you put in it. School is personal preference. Its a little late to decide between schools at this point if you studying for Sgt exam. I got low 70s on his take home tests and scored in mid 90s on the actual exam

You're doing very well, keep it up. Just for reference, I scored in the similar range for both his Sgts/LTs courses and scored in the high 80s for Sgts & low 90s for Lts. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll be fine on exam day.

As of today its going to be on 8/3 and 8/4 with two sessions per day, no in-basket and on a computer. Waiting on venue to confirm; could be the Javits or CUNY. Also the possibility of the 2nd week of August.

There goes the summer. I rather just have it in June and get it over with

The job is actually doing the right thing (after we, Key/Rising Star, informed them and recommended) for the members who make 3 years in July making them eligible. Good thing is you will get your raw score after you "submit" your test on the computer.

But there are people out there who say we will get nothing done!!!

There is a July 2014 class that will have 8 years and its their FIRST time being eligible to take the exam. I have little sympathy for 3 year cops being able to take test. Last thing job needs is more 5 year wonders running around barking orders. How does this affect cut-off date now?

I have a ton of respect for what you guys and Rising Star are doing to help us... but I'll be honest, the test being in August kinda sucks. It kills the summer, and drags this out so much longer than necessary. I've been going extra hard trying to be ready for a June 6 test, so to now hear it'll be August is a slap in the face. @Hennigans404 hit the nail on the head... some of us are coming up on 8 years (I'll have 7.5) and just taking our first test. I really don't care about the July class - most of which probably didn't sign up since the original NOE said June 6, and now they missed the sign-up window.

I know, cops will find ANYTHING to complain about lol. At the end of the day it's not a big deal, it's only a couple of months... but still not the best news!

It would be nice if they could let us know before Easter. As it stands I'm skipping Easter Sunday, but if it's pushed back another two months I could justify easing off the pedal little.

Exactly. I also want to know are we starting over from beginning now with classes? Is cut-off date changing? 8 extra weeks makes a big difference. Many of us put our trust in the Key/Rising Star, I just hope they dont forget that. For everyone who is feeling discouraged just keep grinding it out. Many of our colleagues will drop out as summer approaches, dont be one of them.
