It's early and the November promo hasn't even happened yet, but I'm hearing another round of sgts 100-150 is the plan for December. Like I said, it's really far out so things can change, but that's the plan for now.
The white shirt I spoke to about this, who originally said there would be 243 for this quarter, which 93 would put us at 173 going into December, also stated the list would be exhausted by end of summer & was same person who said mandates were coming a month before they came down. Anyone on the list, is a matter of WHEN, not IF. This is absolutely incredible. No one in this forum thought the whole list would make it. I laughed throughout these years as I silently read everyones opinions especially those who said it wouldnt make it past 1600, but, all those on the list can selfishly be thankful for COVID, the extension of the list come because of it, be thankful for the riots & climate of this job that has pushed ppl to retire.
To be fair, without the extension, most people past 2000 would be ****ting bricks right now. Which is exactly what we said when the list came out. Nobody could have predicted COVID.
Maybe to do a big Promotion with just Sgts for end of year?
I doubt the city council is thinking of it that way. It doesnt make sense though since sgt vacancies are over 300s. But then again this city nothing ever makes sense.
All other ranks beside Sgt and CPT are a go. The job basically told all the waiting POs to keep waiting and canceled only SGTs at the last minute. Makes zero sense to me as the Sgt Rank was already stretched super thin. Even more so now by the Sgts getting promoted to LT. That's why I don't understand why they didn't just do a reduction but you guys already know. Nothing ever makes sense with this process. Best people can do now is hope for a decent December size. I'll keep you guys posted.
Confirmed my friend. Unfortunately It looks like the Job and City don't want to take more cops off of the street right now. They're waiting till closer to the Academy class graduating in December because I guess the powers that be feel 95 POs make a huge world of difference but a 350-400 deficit of SGTS is okay. Like I said before. It makes zero sense.

Wait till July of next year when the class of 2002 hits their 20th year. That class had over 2000 recruits!

Over 3100 UMOS have over 20 years on the job and can leave any second.
The July 2002 class will be eligible to retire July 2020, that's probably another 1000 assuming half of that class is still on.
And the unvaccinated that will not get vaccinated will add a decent amount too.
The good thing is the department wants to put in a class of over 1200 recruits in January, so that will boost the chances of some big Sgt classes in the near future.
Since we presumably have some time to kill without news, I was just thinking about how incredibly lucky the people who hit 3 years in January 2017 got. They were ineligible to take the test on the original October 2016 date and became eligible when the test was postponed. Presumably at least a few of them scored well enough to get promoted right at 5 years in January 2019. Those people are already coming up on 3 years in rank and are able to take the next LT test. Without that postponement they would be about to hit 8 years on with their first crack at a test not even announced yet. Basically being #1 on the next list you're not getting promoted until after 10 years.
I actually heard that everything might be "cancelled" now. But I wouldn't be surprised if the job changed their minds and decided to just reschedule everyone for a different date.
Does this have anything to do with the Rittenhouse verdict?
Unfortunately it doesnt sound like it, I have no information all but I dont think they are postponing it, hopefully the end of December.
Anything that affects the possibility or necessity of personnel shortage or need affects whether promotions occur or not.
To the best of my knowledge, I believe the cancellation came down before the verdict. I hope city hall changes their mind before the end of the year. If not I am sure they will start up again in Jan.

Sgt cancellation came down when exemption denials came down. The rest were cancelled officially when the verdict came down. Both scenarios can greatly affect personnel.
Im not in my position anymore to get the latest updates. Unfortunately I can confirm things by making some favor phone calls but I have moved on after quite sometime in the unit
