LCD or Captain promotion

Looking for opinions; if you could have your choice of being an LCD/LSA or take the Captain promotion what would you decide?. Im at the bottom of this list and may have the opportunity to get the money, and Im wondering if I do get it if taking the Captain promotion would even be worth it. At the rate the promotion for Captain is going Ill probably have 18 year OTJ by the time it happens.

I would say LCD hands down. Do yourself a favor and go onto www.seethroughny.net. There are top pay LCDs and LSAs making more than full birds. Sure, theyre doing OT to get it, but if you're in a decent spot that doesn't have to mean heavy lifting. But if ranking up is your thing than I guess it could be a tough decision.

That's the no Brainer of the century. Get the money, stay at the money. Everyone says I'd take captain rank just for the pay unless I make special assignment

I'm an LCD in the DB capping out every month on code 8. Add Violence reduction OT into the mix which doesn't count towards the cap and Lt's are doing 50 hrs a month cash. Trust me its a No brainier to stay a LT if getting the money. Its a lot of fun at the end of the year when you make the same if not more than a 1 star chief.

This guy answered it as best as anyone could. If you're lucky enough, take the money. **** the rank and all the meetings/politics involved in it.

Well I thought Id follow up on this post. I was promoted to LCD several months ago, so now I really dont think the promotion to Captain is worth it. I am considering at the very least waiting until I have at least a year as an LCD before Id even consider taking the Captain promotion; the logic being that at least I could reduce the time to top pay. Has anyone been in a similar situation?; what is your opinion on this?

There is no shortening the time to top pay unless you are at top pay. The way the contracts stand, its either top pay LSA/LCD to top pay captain, or youre going through all the steps.

This is true.  A Capt who was top pay LSA in my bmoc went to top pay Capt out of the gate.  That is only for top pay LSA.  If you are not at top pay as a LSA or LCD, you have to go through all the Captain steps before top pay.
