I know a lot of good people who will make great, great bosses on this list. But one thing that I (and many others who passed) were waiting for, is the pace at which they hire. it is now mid July of 2018, and the hiring rate of Sergeants has absolutely remained the same as it has been for the last 5 years or so. it is July, yet were are only up to list #232. At this rate, it is safe to say that by December, we can hit 450, and possibly if we are lucky 500. After that, there will only be 3 years left on the life span of this list, which means they would have to hire about 2,100 cops in 3 years.

 

I just don't think it will happen. 

 

The general thinking has been that the job "made the list bigger for a reason", I kept trying to explain to everyone on this board, that those claims were not true. The SCALING of the test was the only reason that this list was so big, not because the department wanted it that way. No one wants to understand, that for the first time EVER, different exams were given to make up test takers. Because of this, DCAS had to hire an outside agency to come up with a way to scale the test and grade it in a way where it wouldn't be unfair for people who take it on different dates. Some people who failed on the original test date, could have passed on a make up day due to them knowing the answer to the questions asked on that makeup exam. And vice versa. This is why the list was so big, the exam was scaled, or graded in a way so that the difficulty of both exams dont effect grades in a negative way.

 

The 2011 Sergeants exam had 1663 people. It took the job 3 years, and 8 months to completely exhaust that list. It was 4 months short of expiry. This list has over 2,600 people.

 

The list will most likely be cut. I hope it doesnt. I hope everyone gets made. But its just very unlikely.

And your point is what exactly for starting this tread? No one is that naive to believe that they are getting made past 2000 or at least I hope they are not. Im myself in low 1800s even dont think will get made. Life goes on and I have to put the work in on the next exam and not try to wing it.

Old news by now. Reality has set in and people are finally coming to grips with that. But you guys are not alone...i think the Lt and Capt lists will also be cut. Sad but true.

Honestly I think its way to early to tell. Here my opinion first is if you look around most commands are short Sgt also recent updates admin bosses shouldnt be touched. i also think small Sgt list prevented hiring of recruits. I wouldnt throw in the towel till we know more. I think bosses are retiring at a higher rate then ever and dont forget this is the last year of there final increase. My guess will be around 2300 by year 4

Im sure theres a lot of cops who can make a good president but itll never happen. Sometimes life isnt fair.

However, if you cant get promoted off a fair exam then you cant blame anyone but the mirror.

Did you really sacrifice and do everything possible to study?
Or did you play video games and go out drinking and to the movies on both rdos?

ok whats the reason for the curve at first they had a decent size over 1000 than the curve has too be a reason. with all the recent lawsuits and drama from the other exams. people already had realized they failed than the curve happpend. so i dont think they made it that big just too cut it because they had enough before the curve
