Scaling


Apparently this will greatly benefit scores of 66-69.  

From my understanding if 2 exams are given and one exam has a higher average than the other; the harder exam will be slightly curved to be in proportion with the other.

You  are pretty much guaranteed to pass if you are at a 68/69.

Rumor has it that the original test date will have a .80 deduction for each incorrect answer as opposed to the traditional 1 point deduction.

So If you are at a 69.... you got 31 wrong. 

31x.20=6.2

69 You'll end up with 75.62 raw score (with the seniority, physical, medals....you can potentially go from a 69 to an 80)

If your scale is correct (.80 vs 1), then yes that looks right.

a 90 would become a 92 etc. But again that's only if each question wrong is only .80.

If that scale is correct .. An original score of 63 would bring you up to a 70

If this nonsense is true which I doubt. What's the point? The alleged size of the list is already too big to promote everyone. This would change nothing.

 The initial headcount for recent Sgt test was also huge and yet it ballooned beyond stratosphere with this new method

 They have to do this in order to give a different make up exam.

If our test had an average score of a 73, and the make up exam had an average score of an 89, we'd flip out saying their exam was easier. So in order to be able to make ONE LIST from TWO DIFFERENT exams, they have to scale one to match the other. They obviously aren't going to scale it the other way and make the 89 match the 73 (taking points away from people and turning passing scores into failing scores). So this is what we're left with.

Scaling is such a nice term for this. Doesnt make people feel bad cuz its politically correct, however, this scaling is actually called affirmative impact ..... its the citys way to get more people of a certain background on to the list.... dont believe me? Inquire within and youll get your answers

So the alleged passing number of 1287 is WITH this scaling? So not as many passed outright as originally thought then. Imagine if they weren't doing this, the list would be under 1000.

 Sat com you hit the nail on the head. For all of us who scored in the 90s and high 80s were good...but for the poor guys who were originally sitting 80 and below have a legitmate right to be pissed.

 As one of the originally defenders of the 9heroes...im backing sgt2be on this one. I dont think points were awarded to certain people based on demographics as eze has said is unconstitutional (although dcas has not released their scaling method best to my knowledge). I do think the list was scaled the way satcom says it was all in the name of the DCAS' agenda (defacto the City Council's agenda...follow their marijuana disparity impact crusade). 

I really wish people would stop saying the job had hand in this because they did not. All the job does is provide test writers. 

And all we can hope for is a fair grading process from DCAS. I know people are going to say Im crying again but Im just sticking up for the poor guys and girls on the low end of sgt, and soon to be Lt/Capt list who will get jump by a person with more senority, veteran, and jst points who didnt originally pass. If we are not able to promote everyone on the list, which I dont think is feasible based on vacancy/attrition numbers, then what DCAS did is truely digusting.
