After I combined academy credits with my regular credits at Excelsior or John Jay. How many credits will I need to obtain a bachelors degree ?

Minimum 120 but it all depends what degree you plan to attain and credits which will be accepted towards that degree by a school of your choice. A lot of these online/virtual schools tell you that they will convert your academy credits but it doesnt mean that the school you go to will take them. My advice is to go and sit down with academic advisor at an actual college/university in order to find out what is what.

You will not receive a degree with an online school just for having 120 credits. Just how when you attended john jay you had pre requisite to obtain a particular degree. I personally have 114 credits with excelsior and they wanted to charge me roughly 16,000 to complete a liberal arts degree. Another friend did empire and he was slightly under 16,000. Most of the schools require 10 courses to obtain a bachelors.

I think most folks here are looking for the fastest and cheapest route which doesnt exist. Get you degree so nothing else will hold you back dont look for shortcuts. It will pay off on this job and afterwards.

Just some knowledge, excelsior will put you on the phone with an academic advisor. They can answer generic questions but cant give you a definitive answer until you pay the $50 fee to enroll where they will quote you on 2 degree options

If your short a few classes to obtain your bachelors degree. I suggest going through John Jay. When I came on the job I had 86 credits. (The 86 credits I obtained through John Jay I was a previous John Jay student) John Jay took all my academy credits when I graduated from the academy. I finished my degree with the free leadership courses and used the police waiver they offer to SUNY and Cuny students. The waiver is for one class and you have to be in the rank of PO or Detective. I obtained my degree in 2014.
