Captain overtime

Just out of curiosity..... why are captains restricted to that weird overtime schedule?

Is it because they're afraid their salaries would be so inflated due to the amount of hours a captain normally works? Was it contractual as a giveback for something else? Just wonder the reason behind it...

Re-engineering found that some people weren't taking the rank because of the pay cut during the first 3 years as Capt. So now they offer 180 hours a year at straight time to soften the blow from Lt until you reach top pay. That's all it is.

Once you're at top pay its not worth taking cash anyway since you are trading off 67 hours for 25 hours of straight time.

The Cat 1 cars came about the same way..trying to entice more Lt to want to move up in rank, while costing the Dept very little money.

I know that's why they added the OT schedule... my question is why couldn't they take OT in the first place?

If you allow Captains to incur overtime at the time and a half rate theyll make more than the PC lol.  With the 8 hour tours it is easy to generare ot.

I'm not a labor expert but it has do with in the real world managers that make over a certain dollar amount are considered salaried employees and are not eligible for overtime.  I have plenty of friends who are professionals in  various industies/ business world who work crazy hours and don't receive OT.   They actulay talked about trying to say Sgt/LT are managerial positions and therefore not entitled to OT in the past.

2 stars and above are considered managerial and can't make overtime.

I did speak to the CEA about the cash exchange, you can this quarterly after you hit top pay.  I'm not at top pay yet, so i have no experience with that.  But, i do take straight time cash all the time.
