Looks like we have a tremendous amount of passers, mostly in the mid 80s to 90s. Which means we are looking at a long wait for the next lieutenants exam. How long do you guys think the wait will be?
I would say second half of 2021. Definitely a tremendous amount of passers for this exam with very high scores. Its out of our control and we still need to be promoted to Sgt before we can really starting thinking about it. Their test was straightforward and it shows in those scores. Our test was pretty straigntforward too but it doesnt seem that there were as many mid to high 90s like we are hearing for the LT exam.
Rumor Im hearing is 2020 Lt exam..take it for what its worth. you have to remember most of those 90s are the result of the 2011 and 2015 Lt exam debacles. A lot of the 90s guys have time in rank so max longevity points. Unfortunately, the job will be playing catch up for many years to come. Many of those sgts who make Lt will hit top pay by their 20th year. So I can see a mass exodus of Lts in the near future.
Do not listen to rumors of a "next" lt exam. There is no next lt exam being spoken of. When the Dept speculates that it needs an exam to fill upcoming lt billets, the PC will then send a letter to Comm of DCAS to request an exam. It is safe to say that in 4 years or so there will be another exam.
So all of the 372 Lts who got made in a year plus all the 2011 and prior Lts who are going nowhere anytime soon will retire and/or take the captains exam ?
Using simple math and history, i highly doubt theyll blow through 1000+ Lts in 2018,2019 & even 2020.
..Rule of thumb-once half of the 2017 list gets promoted,2-3 years, you guys will hear chatter about new LT test. Couple of months later it will become official. Then 6-7 month of study, another 3-4 month of review/protest etc.
