There's usually some speculation as to whats happened in the past with promotions. While its definitely not perfect. Its slightly better than random speculation. If those numbers are accurate since the beginning of 2011 the avg # of Sgts promoted per year is 460.

Great work with gathering all the info. Let's all hope for promotions similar to 2012. I'm in the early 1200 so fingers are crossed that I'll be promoted in time to be eligible for the Lt. Exam later this year.

On this job you can't rely on statistics or average numbers. Didn't you learn by now that nypd NEVER makes logic? We can only hope, but make predictions... When this job ever made sense?

But every year promotions will be fairly consistent just based on natural attrition and needs.
