Recommendation on the classes??

I know Dcas really screwed everyone who took this past Sgt exam but was just curious as to how much the schools everyone attended really helped them. I heard Yanosik from elite is great. Best of luck to everyone who took the exam.

I took the Key Twice (11 and 13). This time around (13) along with the Key I also had access to Mike's class. Hands down, Yanosik destroys any Key teacher. I mean, blows them out of the water. I am a big fan of Misfud (from the Key) teaching style, and swore by it, but once I saw Yanosik teach I was sorry I didn't go with him from the beginning. The guy is really committed to making you pass. If you had a choice, I would go with the Elite in the future, plus the patrol guide is awesome. The Key's packets were much better than Yanosik's material. His material sucks.

With that being said. READ THE PATROL GUIDE. These guys who swear up and down by the packets end up in the low 70's. Hey you passed, you passed. But if you want to do WELL, and not just pass READ THE PATROL GUIDE. First time around I didn't even open the patrol guide, just went by the packets....68...second time around, I read the patrol guide, studied it and used the Key's packets as a supplemental aid and to review, scored a near 90. Read the patrol guide!!!

Elite Strategic Training is the way to go. With the ability to watch any class you miss online, the Elite guide on both a printed version and on WatchDox file so you can read it on your mobile device or computer and instant feedback on every quizz that you take online this without a doubt is the best school out there.

Yanosik its a great teacher or as he calls himself " your coach ". You will have to put  in the effort  since there is really no short cuts in his course but at the end it will pay off.

Just my opinion.

I basically second everything Manhands said. I also did the key for 11 and 13 but with 13 also did elite. The key packets are better but the elite patrol guide is worth the price of the course by itself. It's what I studied from the most and I found myself more prepared the second time. I studied smarter not harder.

i also did the key for the 11 and this test, however I went to the Elite cram and regretted not taking his class. I think I would have scored higher if I took his class. Next promotional exam, im going with Yanosik . I was taking the key class with Chief Shea, but once he left he wasn't around much and I didn't find that the classes were the same after that.

I passed but actually used The Fast Track class and to be honest it was not all that great at all. I had access to Mikes stuff and I knew I made a mistake not going with Elite sadly by that time I had already paid for the full package for the fast track. I also used the Key, and Rising star all of which I honestly think was much better then The Fast Track material. I feel that I passed more due to the other classes then the class I actually paid for the fast track!

I didn't read one page of the patrol guide. I went to nearly every class with The Key and studied from their hand outs and got an 81. If I actually read the patrol guide I probably would have gotten a 91.

The way I look at it is this, the guys teaching ANY of these classes forgot more about the patrol guide than I will ever know. Going to the classes and hearing the material in real context helped me greatly.

I honestly don't think it matters what class you take. They are all good and all the instructors are much more knowledgable of the PG than us. It's up to the test taker as to the effort they put in and how much they read, not so much the instructor giving you the material.

Yeah I was very interested to see what majority of the students thought who actually went to different promo schools. Everyone I speak to seems to agree with what everyone wrote on here. Seems that Elite and the Key are the top schools out there right now. As for the fast track I honestly have yet to hear one good thing about them. 33fornow pretty much summed them up by actually paying full price for their course and still not being able to vouch for them as being one of the better course's around. It may be a little on the pricey side but I think on the next Exam I will sign up for Yanosik's full course and do the home study package that the key offers.

Same here never touched the patrol guide. All my studying came from the Key packets and rising star questions. BTW former Chief Shea hands down the best instructor out there. Wouldn't have passed without him

I passed strictly reading the key packets. I never touched the PG or went to classes except for the in-basket and CIMS. The Key packets are definitely better than Elite's but with the Key, you were "rolling the dice" as with which instructor you would get. I liked Capt. Misfit and one of the Shea brothers but didn't care for the other.

For Elite, you are getting Mike Yanosik, a guy that truly eats, sleeps and craps patrol guide. For the next test, I would continue with the Key but sit through Mike Yanosik's class unless the Key can guarantee that Capt. Misfit teaches all sessions.

I passed 100% because of mike yanosik. His course is unmatched. I just went to class and read his packets. In the whole 10 months I did not study much at home. Overall probably 10 hours at home in 10 months. I swear it. I just went to class each week and paid attention to mike. I doubled up on 2 cram classes and waaaalllaaaa 78!!!!

Personally, I like the key.  I went to a couple of yanosiks classes but it turned me off. I ended up leaving early each time. I think his packets are a joke compared to the key.  The key packets are also easier to take on the run with you as opposed to the total guide.   His voice irritates me a bit as well.  I guess it comes down to preference.

Same with me. I didn't take this test but I took the last one with Mike when he was at Fast Track. I started studying late and missed some early classes. In the end I only went to the classes and looked at the packets. Hardly studied on my own and got a 76. Obviously wish I would have put more time in to get a higher list number but at least I passed & that was because of Yanosik.

I went to The Key and Elite which worked for me. I did great; I think the combination of Yano and Misfid is excellent! I also used the Key app to get more question practice. I recommend this combo to all.

Be safe!

Same here...

I went with The Key '09, '11 and '13 (didn't study at all for '09 and barely studied '11) .... I rocked out with The Key for 2013 BUT then I paid for the Elite cram..... and to be honest with you, I was pissed that I didn't go with Elite from the BEGINNING.. . .. Mike Yanosik is AMAZING, I love his passion and the "LMS" was a godsend... if you missed a class, you could just watch it online and/or print out the material. Mike makes sure the **** is burned into your BRAIN!! lol... I learned more with him during the cram than I did with the Key's whole course (because I had access to the Elite's LMS all the past classes).....I ADORED Captain Misfud, he was hands down the best instructor for The Key and Chief Shea was good too (boring sometimes but good) but I got tired of "chasing the instructor". Sometimes I would drive all the way from LI to BK (deep in BK) just to find out that Misfud wasn't there.  And god forbid you can't make a Key class for the week ... you'd have to scramble to get the material from someone else or just wait for the next class. The Elite just seemed a lot less stressful.

When it's time for me to take the lieutenant's exam, I'm doing it the other way around, going with Elite and then maybe do the Key crams....  but like ManHands said, read the Patrol Guide. . .. Everything else should be supplemental..  ..

I don't know anyone in my command that passed and from what  I'm hearing of people that I know who took it, not many people passed. Is this the same vibe in other commands?

20 in your command? Either you work at an inside gig with highly motivated people who want to move up, or you seriously miscounted. 20, even for the easiest test in ONE CMD is a huge amount.

With that being said, I still believe this list will not be small. Not 1,600 but definitely not 500 like most people estimate. A lot of people passed.

Is it safe to say about 3 passes per 100 cops?

Assuming you're saying three passes out of one hundred cops who took the exam, no it's definately not safe to say that. 3 out of 100 is 3%. I've heard 4500 paid for the exam, I haven't heard how many actually sat, but 3% of 4500 is 135, which would be the smallest sergeant list in history.

I just heard this morning that 9000 took the test and only 3 hundred something passed. I never go by what I hear about this exam and it actually sounded super ridiculous when I heard it but the guy who told me said he "got it from a credible source" and I wouldn't even have mentioned it on here but now that I see someone mention 3% ........ 300 something passing out of 9000 is about 3%! Maybe it is safe to say.

Everyone that I know who was seriously studying passed with only a few exceptions. I am betting on a list of between 600-800 people.
