I just read the amended notice of exam for you guys, and it clearly stated that there will be extra research questions on the exam that will not count. Did they tell you how many? No. Did they say which number of questions they will be? No. I think legally all DCAS is required to do is to notify you, the test-taker, of these extra 'research' questions..... Which they did. Did you guys get railroaded? Yes, in the sense that you had 130 questions when guys like me only had 100. Now the next question, since there was 130 questions on the exam was DCAS REQUIRED to give you more time on the exam? In my interpretation no they don't have to do anything. They decide how much time to give in the first place for these exams. Does it suck, yes absolutely... Without a doubt. Did u guys get screwed? Yes.... But in the end DCAS covered itself with the amended NOE. It even bolded and underlined the statement informing you of the extra 'research' questions.... I sincerely hope it works out for you guys but I honestly think lawsuits, etc, won't go anywhere.
The multiple-choice test will contain additional questions which will be used for research purposes only. These questions will not count toward your test score and will not be included in the protest review process. However, you should answer all questions in the test booklet.
Correct but it does Not say that we must answer all the questions in the booklet. (should and must) makes a big difference. I'm not a fast test taker I only got to question 112. And I hate when some people are so IGNORANT in saying "you should had timed your self". Some people can't even finish 100 questions on time. I'm sure there many people that did not finished. Of they wanted to play around with 30 extra questions that were all PG related. and long paragraph questions. They should had given extra time for the extra 30 question.
It didny say you "must" answer ANY of the questions. It also didn't say which were the research questions, therefor common sense would tell you that you MUST answer all of the questions.

APPEAL THE 30 Randomly mixed in "Survey Questions" -- letter to DCAS COMMISSIONER - Takes Less than 5 minutes.... Pass this link on to everyone you know who took the exam and actually cares about passing
i just personally wrote to DCAS on that website in the message posted above by carman728 and I encourage everyone to voice your opinion since not all of you will attend the protest review session like myself:
To Whom it May Concern,
The 2013 NYPD sgt test#3539 was an unfair collaboration and abomination of a city promotional exam with 30 extra survey questions and the failure to allot extra time for those said questions. Our career is being tossed around like we are guinea pigs in a horrible lab experiment gone awry. Many of us studied for months, put our personal lives on hold, and paid in excess of a thousand dollars for promotional tutoring classes when we originally signed up for a 100 question test, which places a vast majority of us in a precarious situation of failing since many test takers did not even finish the entire exam unrighteously due in part to lack of time. As of now, there are too many variables factored in and the majority of the test takers expect an answer regarding these so-called survey questions. Will we be provided with their identity and purpose at the protest review and receive a breakdown of how they affect our test scores? We are entitled to an explanation of this unjust practice!

Wow is kinda depressing reading what u wrote. Idk if u have a background in labor laws or inside info. I do believe however that this situation can be resolved if they want to, without lawsuits, yeah I know that won't happen, I'm just being naive. Now after all u said, is safe to assume DCAS knew what was coming and covered themselves some how, but what about the integrity of the test, what about the transparency of this process. How do we know which questions are being tossed? How do I know they are not biased and helping certain specific groups or people?? There are soo many variants in this story. Why is everything so shady here? Why they didn't say thirty questions from the very beginning. They had 2 chances to tell us (When we filed and the NOE) U really think they decided this **** over night?
