I've been viewing this site ever since I passed the 2011 Sgt exam and it definitely seems like there's some people on here with legitimate and helpful info (shout out to Brat), but like with all internet forums there's a ton of misinformation and rumor about this list and I would like to clarify. First off anyone saying they got info from "higher ups" that the the plan is to cut the list is full of it. NO ONE IN THIS DEPARTMENT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH ESTABLISHING A LIST, DECIDING WHEN A TEST WILL BE OR CUTTING A LIST, THOSE DECISIONS REST WITH DCAS ALONE. Anyone who reads the Personnel Rules of the City of New York, particularly Rule IV will see that this is true. The fact that our agency has nothing to do with establishing lists and giving tests makes sense from a checks and balances point of view, it's to avoid corruption and nepotism. Civil service is all about fairness and equal protection under the law. One could easily imagine a scenario where a "higher up" cuts a list cause he doesn't want the guy who he had personal problems with 15 years ago on patrol to get promoted or maybe he cuts the current list because his nephew or cousin scored really high on the next list. Now I'm not saying that this list or any other can't or won't be cut although I find it extremely unlikely for a number of reasons. Personnel rules also state that the list once established only has to be open for one year although it can be extended three more years BY THE COMMISSIONER OF DCAS for a maximum of four. In certain extreme cases, for example a hiring freeze, the list can be established beyond those four years. The rules also state that once a new list is established the old one terminates but again according to section 4.6.1 subsection (c) : The list thus reported shall be officially established only by order of the commissioner of citywide administrative services. So again unless individuals like ondeair work for or are getting their info from someone at DCAS it is completely unreliable.

To the OP, I haven't read much of people saying the "higher ups" on this job are cutting the list. Most of the posts on here about cutting the list has more to do with the POSSIBILITY of the list being cut and what has happened on these exams lists in the past.
Its the delusions of people on here creating their own facts when they don't like what they are reading that the list COULD BE cut based on exam lists in similar size from the past. I post accurate numbers on past exam lists and what happened on them and I get attacked on here, never once claiming I KNOW anything about an imminent end to the list.
Fact is its has been a long time since a Sgt list was this large and the last few times it was, the list did in fact get cut. Also the pace of this current list slowing down this year with another exam next month, does beg the question- Is there a possibility this list can get cut? I would say, yes. Yes, there is a strong possibility...

Well if you missed the point in that post, not sure you having the reading comprehension skills to be a Sgt. My point is many attack those that post stuff that they simply do not want to consider even if history shows there is a good possibility the list could be cut. Often its just personal attacks to discredit the poster even when he/she often does post accurate information or people just make up their own "facts" that simply are not true from everything to inaccurate results on past lists or fabricated civil service laws that don't exist or they don't understand.

Hahahaha... Dont try to be funny.. I hold a couple of degrees and can perfectly comprehend 4 languages... I get ur point in regards to the possibility of this list getting cut... What I dont really understand is the reason for ur existence in this forum.. Ur the one not getting everyone's point here... If u have nothing to contribute.... Leave
If ur a boss (like u said u were) what are u doing here?.. I suggest u go back to ur command and express ur opinion to the guys and girls that took the test and pass... if they dont wanna listen to u or give u a face.. There is always an eager rookie willing to listen to a supervisor's opinion in regards to a test that they have no business with
Ok... so u think that everyone here wants to read ur point of view and be educated in regards to what can possibly happen in the future.. Let me help u make ur point across so everyone here could be happy and u can pat urself on the back... Please read, comprehend and follow this plan.
This is my ultimate suggestion:
1) Request ur own sticky from a moderator.
2) Name it as u wish. (It has to be related to this list getting cut).
3)In one well structurally organized paragraph state ur opinion(s).
4) Keeping checking ur sticky periodically, at least once each tour, at different times during the first platoon and after the fourth hour and the EOT.
5) If u have formulated another opinion REPEAT steps 3 and 4.
These my friend are 5 easy steps that u can follow for the pursuit of ur happiness. If u comprehend and follow my suggestion, u will soon realize how happy u and everyone here will be.
P.S. U really wanna help out? Go to the sticky I initiated and collaborate with useful information.
Well bklyn13, I did not start a single thread on this forum regarding this topic, so why should I start now with a sticky? I have just added to the discussion real facts of what has happened in past exam lists, especially those given early in my career that were routinely cut and were similar in size.
Also for a guy that speaks 4 languages, has multiple degrees, and writes in such condescending tones, why are you even on this job? Also as someone who is lesser than you with less degrees and less languages spoken, does it irk you that this job which you are apparently too educated for has to promoted me multiple times?
P.S.- I find it troubling that someone who is sooooo superior intellectually is worried about dying on the list.

Hey patrolguide, not for nothing, that's a bit insulting. I have a BA and speak 2 languages. I'm not a genius, but certainty educated. This job is not beneath me. Even for all the bull we deal with, I still take some pride in what I do for a living. I'll give you the benefit of a doubt and say you really didn't mean to imply this job is for idiots.
I am just stating I am not the one on here claiming to be a genius with multiple degrees or communicating in multiple languages and therefore those that don't (such as myself) are somehow intellectually inferior and should not be listened to when I am in fact more accomplished on promotional exams than most people on this job. Thats just it, promotional exams, nothing more. I am not here to see who can pi$$ farther.
