Lets see, 1663 on the list. Up to list number 775 with 50 pass overs? So if that is all currently accurate, there are 938 people still waiting to get promoted. There have been promotions starting 16 months ago, so if you do some math on this, that means about 45 people get promoted a month on average.
Which means 938 divided by 45 is about 21 more months if they stay at this current rate. So ask yourself this, when DCAS gives the October Sgt Exam, will the powers that be, whoever they are keep the 2011 exam list around for another 20 months? That is a really long time. Are you going to penalize people for 20 months that ACE the 2013 exam for someone who might have passed the 2011 exam and doesn't even know what admin sick is at the bottom of the list?
Yes, I am speculating, I have no inside info to share. But use your judgement, there is definitely a strong possibility this list gets cut.
On Friday I went to DCAS and spoke to the supervisor in the certification department the list it's not up to our agency to keep it active. After the first year the list has to be active for no more than four years, after 4 years then it expires. The list won't be cut because there it's an passing score. since passing score was establish no list has been cut. The 2006 LTS list expired it was 4 years old it was not cut. And people with raw score of 74 and seniority points already got promoted in our exam this list still has 32 active months. the 2009 list took 16 months to activated. 2126691357 its the certification dept DCAS, call for your self and stop rumors...

All old news, shines light on nothing. In the past "passing"scores could be everything from 58, 68, 74, etc. That didn't stop the lists from getting cut. The job doesn't HAVE to promote you bc you got a 70. But they might or they might not...
Back then there was no passing grade. Exams were based on a curve, since passing grade the only exam that has expire was the 2006 LT exam. And no the city don't have to promote you if you get a 70 but the list has to stay active for 4 years and after that it will expire. 2011 sgt exam Has still many months to go.
The 2006 exam also had about 6500 sign up to take it. If I remember correctly.
I took that test and was promoted off of it, 4800 cops took it. Not many had interest in the exam at that time. The sba contract was old, top pay 76,xxx. in 2007 the contract was renewed and top pay went to 98,xxx, and a lot more people wanted the job!
I explained the high number of passing scores well over a year ago on this forum. You have to keep in mind there was no Sgt exam for 2 and a half years. That's five different academy classes that all got their first crack at the Sgt exam, where as you only had 2 academy classes getting their first crack between 2006 and 2009. The majority of the people that pass the Sgt exam are those that take it for the first time and as soon as they are elgible. There will be less people that pass the next exam in October due to smaller or no academy classes in 2009 and 2010.
We passed a 100 question exam. Nothing is owed to us. Someone just needs to post up the actual law section so we can be done with all the misinformation. As far as I know the list has to be active a minimum of 1 year and a max of 4. They have to keep our list going until everyone attains enough time to be promoted. In our case that was last bmoc. Argue all you want but at the end of the day its needs of the dept. Im in the same boat as everyone here waiting to be promoted. .... we cant control whats going to happen so cant we put this thread to bed now?
All true call DCAS 2126691357 ask to speak to the certification department. List has to stay active for 4 years our department has no say in how long the list Has to stay active...
Lu doesn't know what he's talking about. A list does not HAVE to stay active for 4 years. It HAS to stay active for one year and CAN stay active for a maximum if 4. This is the Civil Service Law which you can read for yourself on the DCAS website...
4.6.6. Duration of Eligible Lists.
(a) The duration of either an open competitive or promotion eligible list shall be not less than one nor more than four years from the date of establishment.
(b) Unless otherwise provided, an eligible list which has been in existence for one year or more shall terminate upon the establishment of an appropriate subsequent like list for the same title.
I seriously hope for the guys that studied hard...they get their promotion. But...what Patrol says is true...
Do you really think they're going to give this exam in October and then not promote from that exam for a year and a half? I dunno about that.
It keeps getting rehashed because everyone is nervous and anxious about a possible cut. We all worked hard and spent Alot of time hitting the books. Its nerve wracking not knowing we all have Alot riding on this.
What is in your control is to take next months exam as a backup plan, which is the point I am making. I do not KNOW that the list will be cut, no one here does. But it is definitely in the realm of possibility. Hedge your bets, hit the books and take the test next month. Hell, it can even be practice for a Lt exam!
I just wanna wish everyone luck and remind some of you on this list that may be a bit worried about a possible cut that the huge classes of 93-95 are up for retirement. So just in my humble opinion I see you all who passed making it. I hope to be in your shoes waiting to get made if I can pass this damned thing next month, lol
Why would they let the 2006 LT exam go the duration of the 4 years and not the 2011 SGT exam ? If the NYPD wanted the top scorers wouldn't they axe that exam and create another one ?
