Probation

Does doing ot such as rdos and extended tours go towards your probation time. since days off and vaca add to probation, this should play into account!

On a serious note though, is there any way to find out when you are coming off probation? I'll have been a sgt a year next month, but have obv taken vacations, chart days etc. Are you ever formally notified that you are off probation? I know when I came off probation as a cop I was never notified or anything, so I'm assuming its the same thing, but it would definitely be nice to know for sure that you are safe.

The question of when your probation ends was brought up while I was in BMOC. The instructors said you are on probation for one year, vacation and chart days do not extend promotional probation.

I heard the exact opposite in BMOC.  Vacation, sick and chart days do not count towards the 12-month requirement.  This job is funny like that...  You always hear different things even from people 'in the know'.

I was under the same impression as you, that vacation etc definitely does extend your probation, the same as it does when you are a cop.

In order for probation to end in 12 months you must first endure the grueling feats of strength, then sit down with your CO for the airing of grievances.

might want to check that info! fellow co worker got banged out on schedule B with an IAB investigation and was over 12 months. They held his vacation/sick against him and were going to demote him saying he was on probation. They ended extending his probation for another year and take some serious time away. So i believe it does extend it.

Sick/LOD definitely extends probation.

Of course your probation can get extended if you fvck up. However having your probation extended due to disciplinary reasons wasn't asked. I had two weeks vacation and an incident that didn't involve any discipline, and I was off probation in twelve months

If you actually read what he said, his friend was determined to STILL BE ON PROBATION after 12 months had elapsed, before they decided to extend it.

yes sir...that is the point of my story. When GO'ed...he was told, since you take vacation and sick your still on probation even though your year anniversary has passed.

Just to clarify all of the confusion. Vacation and sick days DO extend probation. Chart Days DO NOT. Chart days are accrued based upon the minutes worked after 8 hours ie: 8:35/8:57/8:23. This is where new Lts get screwed. They get no time compensation (nor cash) for the additional 45 minutes worked on their 8:45 tours.
