Most of the past overs that hits five years in July don't hit their 5th until July 8. Now, if the July class starts in July 1st, will the people that is going to hit 5 years on July 8 be able to go in the July 1st class or do they have to wait till next class?

Im in the early 900s. Im still operating under the idea that Ill be promoted no later than April of '14.
I like to think in worst case scenarios. I know some people who are in the low 1000s that think they will hit that number by years end. Cant imagine thats possible.

You'll make it well before April, in my opinion. Even after counting a couple down months.
Because just based on previous history the list should be at around 900 by Oct class. The list has not slowed down. It's following suit. Doesn't take a genius to kind of figure where it'll be by April 2014 and most likely it'll be at 1200 by April 2014. People are just way too concerned and nervous about where this list is going.

I hear you Cry, its now our job and responsinility to make our officers more knowledgeable unlike the supervisors I've had I will pride myself if not having or knowing the right answer I will find it for them so that less mistakes are made

How about sticking up for your cops when necessary? You are an extension of your cops and sometimes their immediate supervisor needs to tell Lt/XO/CO what they need to hear. They may not listen but they still need to hear it. I'm so tired of bosses cowering and thus cops give up and become even less motivated. Sergeants are going to get constantly criticized for their subordinates but its how you handle it. Yes there are a lot of dead weight cops out there but there are a lot cops who work and would work harder if they had a supervisor who stuck up for them. It goes a long way.

Lol when I say everyone's mistake im not just taking about your cops. Thats actually easier to deal with but what I'm mostly meant is that you are going to responsible for so many other things. Things that are sometimes out of your control but you are going to end up taking the blame. At first this will anger you but eventually you will learn to accept that's the way it's going to be for now on and not to take it personal or let it get to you.
I hear you cry, hence why it is important that everyone that comes into thr rank maintain that strong sense of self and remember that not too long ago they were a cop on the grind... I can't wait just so I can leave my precinct, I'm so over thar place...

Dont be in too much of a rush ... Cry is right, the rank can be a pain in the balls from time to time. Plus like in my case, after promotion I went from a 20 min commute to work to a 1hr 30 min commute. Overall I'd definitely say after you get some time on and become comfortable with the responsibility it's a great rank with whole lot less work to do on the daily (no more summonses or collars)

Exactly. Being a SGT much better than being a cop but don't expect heaven on earth lol. I know everyone wants a change and you will get it soon. I waited 1 year and a half to get promoted because I didn't have the time and it went by quick. The promotion is coming soon even with the down month.

That's true, but at the same time now instead of just having to make sure you have your collar(s) and summonses you need to make sure your whole squad of 5, 8, 10 or however many cops have their activity, and if they don't you end up running around trying to grab something for them.
It might be obvious, but how much you enjoy the rank is, imo, entirely based on your cops. If you have good cops, then sergeant can be the best rank on the job, if you have bad cops, it can be the worst.
I heard that a finest message came down this morning. I haven't seen it, and i don't know if it is for tomorrow's promotion or a July BMOC, but something came down this morning about Sgt's.
A finest message came down last nite but it was for todays graduation. It had everything from chiefs to civilians on it. Depending on how commands finest machines are, some probably got it yesterday afternoon and some got it on the midnight. Its not happening this month just forget it and think positive for next month.
