It's not slowing down unless you consider two months of no promotions as slowing down. That 0-64 could be -40, 24 in a day. That many people on terminal is a good sign. Either way by year end they'll be 100-120 more promotions.
FYI, keep in mind with the safe city safe street hires coming into retirement mode every six months over the next 2 years, this list might expire faster than what most are thinking. Keep in mind, February another 1500 will be set to retire.
Right okay cool..and then the other 40 or so will be coming off in sept/october i guess... its just that for so long ive been hearing how these massive waves of retirements are coming and im still waiting to see when this is going to happen
Keep in mind also, that the 'massive wave of retirements' encompasses the August 1993 class of 2,500 people- most of whom are not Lt. So, though there may be many retirements across the board, only Lts and Capts retiring will affect our promotions.
August 29th is the retirement date for that '93 class. Out of the 2500 you have to count everyone LT and up. If 10 Inspectors retire, it trickles down. Even if 10% are Lts thats 250. I'm willing to bet LT and above is at least 800 out of that 2500.
You're right Booking Fool, all ranks Lt and above would affect us. Your estimation of 800 Lts and above leaving from that class is quite a lofty one though. I hope you have a crystal ball and it is dead on.
I wish I had that crystal ball. I just figure over a 20 year career 35-40% have to hit sgt. Say 25% go higher , that's about 600. So maybe a little less than 800 even if its half that and only half of them retire, you're still looking at 150 to retire. Either way this list will just about done before 2014 ends.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but 80% of Lt. and above stay past 20 years. And that will increase every year now that you have to commit a felony to lose your pension.
Look your 80% as well as my percentages are just speculation. Although I agree the higher the rank the longer you stay, based solely on the numbers there will definitely be a September class if not an August class. There are too many eligible for retirement. Not to sound like a complete d**k, but all I really care about is them getting to my number (50 names) as quickly as possible. Based on the numbers I'm sure they'll be two more classes before years end. Probably 3.
A sgt bmoc class is going in this monday which means they won't get promoted for about 4-5 weeks depending on whenever the PC is free. Based on the vacancy numbers they'll most likely promote Lts the same time as the sgts. So yes, expect promotions the beginning of September.....
I was told that they are planning on promoting a "large" group September. What a large group means I haven't been told. My guy said about 40 maybe more.
Not sure about the timing, but we are currently at -11 and have 15 more going out on either 8/30 or 8/31 and 13 more retiring on 09/01/2013. Which would bring us to 39 not including any new retirements between now and then. Also, we don't know if/ how many Lt's are making Captain. Didn't answer your question, but hope that helps.

A friend of mine is waiting to get promoted to Capt and he was told in Sept. Once he starts his 2 weeks training prior to promotion, then we will have a good idea of when Capts will get promoted next month.
Understood. Thanks. Its still a bit early I suppose to get solid info. I figure in about 2 weeks we should know if its going to be August or September.
Still not seeing this mass exodus people were talking about, really hope its still true...
Exactly,me either...this list seems it will be no different than any of the past averaging about 200 a year just about---these guys arent leaving after all no jobs out there i guess....

The mass exodus class hits 20 on 8/29/13. We'll see if the large numbers of retirements are there after that date.
58 on terminal is big if you ask me. And it went from 0-60 in like two days. Not to mention most waive their terminal. As the cookie said their retirement date is August 29th. See what the numbers are then.

Since these numbers were originally put up, there has been at least another 10 more added(As per Finest messages). There will be at least 50 vacancies in the Lt rank come September 1st NOT including Captain's promotion. I'm expecting a class of 50+ at the end of the month.
Assuming no changes, by August 31, we will be at -26 and with the 12 Captain promotions, it will be -38. In addition, there are another 13 going out on September 1. Assuming only 31 get promoted at the end of the month, by September 1 we will already be at -20. Assuming my math is correct (I got most of those wrong so probably not), another big September class?
