Noticed the following on the LT's contract that a LT designated on Special Assignment or as Commander Detective Squad makes $123,836 at top pay. I was under the impression they made top pay Captain salary. Anyone has any insight on this?
Because the difference between top pay lt and top pay captain is $35,000. The dollar amount raise, however, is roughly the same: ~10K from Sgt to Sgt SA (top pay lt.) and ~10k from lt to lt SA. Can you imagine if the raise from Lt to Lt SA/LCD was $35,000! With overtime Lt SA/LCD would be making over 200k!
Anyway, I would take capt even if I got the money. With the LT money you still need to do 20 hrs/month to make what a captain makes. With 10 years in rank as a captain, a Lt/SA would have to do 35 hrs/month to get the same pension. The lt SA would also have to waive his terminal leave and vacation so it doesn't wash out his OT while most captains I know sit home for 2 years running their time
I have a question for you guys. If someone accumulates a year or two in time I understand they have the right to retire early (18th or 19th year). However, if that person decides to hit the 20 anniversary mark do they have the option of getting a check for that time or they must burn it before using their terminal therefore retiring with 21 or 22 years on?.

Good question. Anyone that's been to the pension seminar can answer this question?
Yes - that FLSA time only can be cashed in..........thats very hard to accumulate
The NON-FLSA time will just go away.
Only 2 star chiefs and above may cash in on their regular comp time.
I have tons of time on the books and plan on staying 5 more........if i were smart i would start taking days off so they arent all held to the end and hurt my OT numbers.
