I unfortunately had to do a detective style investigation to show people why the negative so called "reliable" information is so full of crap... The following is a index of threads from the 09 and 08 forum and how they suffered the same rumors as the 2011 forum about not getting promoted. While going through this you might see some login names you find familiar on the current forum. Such as "PATROLGUIDEISMYBIBLE." I listed that thread first so you can read it.

2009 forum:

page 9 : "CUTT OFF for the 2009 seargent's exam"  - this sound familair ?? :)

page 9 : "TEST MIGHT GET THROWN OUT" - how about this one ?? ;)

page 8 : "SGT TEST 2010" - hmmm did this happen?

page 7 : "266 passed 2009 sgt exam" - umm no thats not true...

page 4 : "higher list numbers" - this didn't happen either lol...

page 3 : "the next Sgt exam" - bunch of wrong rumors...

 

2008 forum:

page 1 : "DYING ON THE LIST" - OMG this rumor again!! lol

page 7 : "BUDGET CUTS" - I think i heard this before on the 2011 forum did you??

page 5 : "FCUK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" - makes me laugh

 

I stopped here because I didnt have all day to do this. Point is 1663 gets made. Ill explain what I think in another post..

So anyway now lets talk about what we do know.

1. Plenty of supervisors eligible to retire...thats a good sign.
2. Active LT test promoting..good sign for SGT vacancies.
3. 2013 Sgt exam. This is a good sign. The department is preparing for the end of this list.
4. List is passed 500 with passovers. That is what I thought would happen. (I DIDN'T KNOW IT WOULD HAPPEN IT WAS A MATHEMATICAL GUESS)
5. The people posting that "the list will die" have posted the same nonsense before and were wrong :P

My prediction:

currently at 515. Trend seems to be between 50-60 Sgt a BMOC class.
50 * 12 = 600
60 * 12 = 720

average is 660 SGT if promoted every year no months skipped.

519 + 660 = 1179 - 104 passover = 1075 - 3 down months (guessing) = approx 950 + passovers

FINAL GUESS - LIST HITS about 1100 at the end of 2013 WITH PASSOVERS

The 2013 Sgt Exam list will get established in January of 2014. And just like usual the new list will wait for the old one to finish.... They never axe a old list just because they have a new one.

And if the department is looking for the "CREME OF THE CROP" why did they wait four years to kill the LT test? Why not just give another exam every year and only take the guys who scored a 90 ???

I agree with you wereinbacklog. I just want to show people that this crap gets said every exam.... I don't want a bunch of good guys waiting to be promoted to get all worked up over this crap. Here is just some proof that they are just rumors.

Today in BMOC this was a heated discussion. I hate to burst your bubble but the consensus of most of the instructors at BMOC for the people on the northern side of 1000 to study for the next exam. So far we have a new sgt's exam being announced, high ranking officials who think this exam will be axed and now instructors who feel the same. WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED TO SEE BEFORE YOU BELIEVE IN THE POSSIBILITY? The possibility is there so stop trying to candy coat the facts. For me it is a moot point since I am in the current BMOC but for many who are listening to your outrageous exaggerations that this list can never be cut then you are doing a huge disservice to them.

HB in your words how many people will get made of the 2011 list. Without jam ups, how many do u think they will actually promoted with out passovers how far will the list get not counting passovers

I'll admit some of these guys got me a little shook. I am in the low 1200's and guys like semp and spartan really brought up some great points and made me feel.better. I'm gonna take the test again just as a precaution but it hopefully won't be.needed. I don't know hy the city would cut our list with so many vacancies through retirement's that are going to happen. These guys know how easy it is to put us all in panic.mode because we all have so much riding on this.

You have to give some consideration to the fact that a test this large with a passing grade has never really happened before....with that being said, this test will certainly set precedent for any future tests that will have such a large passing grade in the terms of getting cut or not. This is just pure opinion on my part, id be ALIL WORRIED and would be studying for the next test if i was on the bottom of the list. You cant ignore that possibility and to do so is only setting yourself up for a complete meltdown if this list is cut and you never take the 2013 test. Only time will tell, simply FACT! I dont care if every mod comes on here and gives every fact from the other tests, the simple answer is you never know with this job. So you PREPARE for the worse and we hope for the best. With that being said, i do wish you guys all the luck bc no list should be cut if you passed and it hasnt been 4 years.

Crytwoseven, are you seriously calling me a troll or better yet are you claiming that I am not in the current BMOC? Did you not delete my picture of the BMOC schedule I posted yesterday? Why attack me all of a sudden and call me a liar? Shall I prove I am in the class again? I can not post pictures cause you throw a conniption so how shall I prove that I am in the BMOC?

The first sentence to this post is all u gotta read! The list has NEVER been this large before with a passing grade of a 70. What ever rumors swirling around for previous tests has nothing to do with this one. Ppl will die on the list mark my words!

Using the math I predicted the list would end the year at 571. If a class hasn't been canceled in November I would have been very close. Even with that 517 v. 571 is pretty close.

Really where? Quote that somewhere Spartan? What bad information do you speak of? Also, I never claimed to have inside info on this list actually being cut, I am posting historical numbers that are accurate.

Anyway, even lists that are cut, most people on lists get promoted. So with no inside info, most people on this list have no reason to worry. I think the people on the last few hundred should def be worried though...

 hb...i actually think ur info has been correct. I dont think u go about getting ur opinion and facts across in a way ppl like on this board. Guess sumtimes it comes across as u being a tool. But what you guys need to realize is....this 2013 test means either of 2 things!!!! 1- 2011 sgt list WILL be cut!! Or 2- 2011 sgt list will fly and everyone will get promoted quick....HB swears by option one and you shoildnt kill him over it....bc either can happen!!!!! Just let it play out and be prepared instead of missing out if they do cut the list

 if you guys think theres no way he is right then obviously you know nothing about this department!! Either way this test will provide concrete info for future tests....lists being cut or massive lists being promoted. Im made already, if i wasnt i would be studying for this 2013 test. Just me though....i refuse to believe this dept does anything that makes sense.
