Best place for a boss

I was wondering where everyone thinks is the best place to work as a boss. Where is there a good mix of nice area and bad with good food and good sights?

A couple of guys I know said its a great place to work. Especially as a boss. The 110 might be good also, but it may be a headache because of the mall, flushing meadow park, elmhurst hospital and I believe they have a piece of Citifield.

how is transit for a boss? as much OT as the cops? I don't have a hook so it's just wishful thinking, but I'm clueless about what goes on down there.

Both the 110 an 115 are good places to work - no parking at 110 though and 115 is an impact command

I heard as a Sgt. you do make OT. This might be good for some guys who wanna make some extra money. In a pct. you might not make OT.

Again it's a double edged sword the 115- Some of the 6 month wonders are a pain and straight spoiled brats. But the influx or Sgt's due to the amount of cops coming and going obviously means every class new bosses arrive. Within a year a new Sgt won't be close to bottom of the seniority list. But overall as far as Queens North a desired command. The 111 ("Bayside PD") is a joke and amazing sights. The 112 is decent yet the borough headquarters so Chiefs coming and going. It's also Queens North DWI spot so as a Desk Sgt can be a pain I've heard.

103 used to be good. That has gone to crap. On days at least. The commute from the island is good though. Food is ok. Sights not really. 100 is great for food great during summer for beach and in the winter sometimes the sectors throw no hitters. Bosses r great..If u wanna be busy don't go there. The. Commute can be rough for some. If u live in southern li u can take ocean pkwy and it's a nice ride. 101 is pretty much all housing and edps and missings. Nothing to eat. No sights. Bosses pretty much are not too good.

Thanks 28Denied. Super, same for BK North Cops who reference BK Soft (South). Depends on who you talk to or how Buffy a cop/boss you are.

Guys I hate to break this to everyone, just cause you work in or worked a certain boro, makes you a real cop. We all know plenty of guys who work in some of the busiest commands in the city and are do nothing horrible Cops, but flaunt there collar brass like its return of jesus. Queens South overall isnt bad. If you stick to the 101, 103, 113 and southern part of the 105, your going to be dealing with the same nonsense most of the Brooklyn and Bronx guys deal with, other commands not so much. Someone posted earlier about 110/115. Not bad commands, but you do deal with spoiled rookies cause my daddy or uncle is this guy and blah blah. And because those commangs are radio run busy and do have some gang problems some of the Cops are really convinced they work in the "ghetto". Just remember the hood is the hood no matter what Boro. If your a busy guy who is leaving Bk North and still want to be be busy and have a good commute I would highly recommend the 101, 103, 113 and 105. Those commangs have ALOT of shootings and violence, so the OT is there for bossess. The 113 leads the city in homicides. This commands are bundled into the whole "queens marine" thing, meanwhile some of them have more murders/shootings/MOS involved shootings than some of their BK or BX precincts. Im not taking digs at any pcts, there is no doubt overall BK and BX are busier. Just trying to remind everyone that "Policing" does exist outside of everyones precincts or details.

Ghetto- Couldnt agree more on literally all points. Doggie guess your from upstate or Manhattan? I'm in opposite boat Bronx or Manhattan would suck as a commute. Want to avoid all tolls / tunnels / bridges!

The best place to work is a place where your CO is good and your fellow supervisors are not scumbags.... There is no such thing as a good place to work. Every place changes. My opinion Is that you try to give yourself the best commute that you can. The shorter the commute the less stress you will have in your personal life.

Don't listen to people that say "this is good" or"that is good". Some cops want to work in a C house and don't want overtime. Other cops want overtime and to work in a A house. And other guys want all the overtime they can get and do absolutely no police work for it. How do you know what profile they fit in? Some guys like to run and gun and others do not....you can't pick a command on what people you don't even know are saying on this forum.

So pick a command based on commute if you don't know any better. We are all going to new boroughs for the most part so I'm picking whatever is closest to my house and hope I get it.

lol the only way you are picking is with a crane. I mean a CRANE not a hook. A hook may get you choice of borough but youll still be going to a crap hole. But a crane will get you where you want to be sometimes even if a spot is not open.

This discussion is "best place for a boss" which implicates where you would "want" to work given a CHOICE... Wether its a theoretical decision or you actually have a crane to go to where it is you want. Maybe I do have a choice or maybe I don't. Point is.....if you can..... Give yourself a short commute. There is a reason that chiefs use highway therapy as a punishment. That's because it's torture.. It ruins your life. Nobody wants to do 4 hours overtime and have a 2 hour commute. I would rather do 5 hours overtime with a 20 min commute. You all know why I'm trying to say here...

spartan you make some great points. BUT i do know ppl with a great commute who work in the 75 and would gladly add another 30 mins to their commute to get out and go someplace slower. So, to some happiness lies in the commute, to others, its all about how slow of a precinct it is. Me, i like to find a happy median!

I feel Spartan and Sgt2Be are both right- Personally commute time is the most important thing to me and cost of commuting (Who wants to pay to go to work!). But Sgt2Be I know cops in the 67 who absolutely love it and spoiled cops who think the 111 sucks. It works both ways as you've both mentioned in what a cop/boss is looking for... OT availability? Busy house? Slow? Some young cops solely focus on the eats and the sights, versus a veteran cop/boss paying a mortgage with 3 kids at home dien for overtime anyway they can get it. you both raise valid intelligent points (Unlike a lot of the hogwash people write on these boards!)...

every command has its "perks" that would make them good fits for different ppl. I know guys who love the 75 bc of the action and the fact that no one really cares. Then i know guys who love the 111 bc they answer 10-11's all night. Basically what we learn, what works for some mite not work for others. To the guys going into BMOC or are in it, make your command work for you. I was pissed i was going to a legit B house. Now, its not so bad. Just remember, you can usually transfer out within a year to a couple of years which is always good to know so make the most of it. You never know, you may get so used to your command you might actually want to stay disbelief

Here are my guidelines, in order of imporance. This is assuming you have a chief on speed dial and will be able to get the precinct of your choice.

1. Commute
1a. Parking

2. Food

3. Busy-ness (learn fast)

4. Few outside headaches (like someone mentioned, your precinct is the designated DWI spot, or the boro is upstairs, etc)

5. You'll have good bosses
5a. CO is not wacky, unless he's out the door soon

6. A lot of sergeants (being able to take off; large turnover means you'll gain seniority/get a detail quickly)
6a. A nice lounge

7. Has not made the newspaper for a while (I got to my command in the middle of a scandal, Inspections was busting balls every day)

Some places have been good places to work and still are. Some places have been terrible places to work and still are so it's not just based on the commute but 97% of you will have no say in where you go anyway.

Someone told me that you're told in bmoc what commands will be getting sgts before you are assigned your actual command on the last day - can anyone confirm or deny this?
