I hear that a lot that PBQN is much more "c-u-n-t-y" than PBQS but some say Queens in general can be a real pain to work in even as a boss. Anyone working in Queens care to elaborate?

I've worked all over queens north and all the commands (outside the 111/112) have guns/robberies/housing/gang members/general bs - its just that you have to look a little harder - also the 110/115 is the ****canning capital of the world which keeps the #'s down.  I haven't been on patrol in years, so I don't know how the boro is with inspections/uniforms etc.  They do tend to break chops about #'s and collars being "in the zones" but I imagine thats true everywhere

To get good OT as a new Sgt. on patrol, you need to go to an Impact command. Then after a while when you're sick of that, you can seek a transfer to a Boro Unit (ie. Anti-Crime, Gang, Investigations etc.) to cap out monthly.

Agreed, bunch of premadonnas who think they don't have to listen b/c everybody has a boss catching their back, and inspections loves hanging out there and banging everyone out for nonsense.

Let me tell ya, I came from Queens and work in Brooklyn now as a boss, the attitude is everywhere. Brooklyn is just as bad. Your about 10 times busier in Brooklyn and you still get your balls busted for BS. While your cops who have 4 years on 3 of which were on foot think they know more than you and constantly remind you of that. Oh not to mention COMPSTAT at least once a month.

Its not that bad really, steady days off, i have Fri-Sat, and get 28 chart days a year.  When you see a new sgt's paycheck at end of the year, then you see mine, it will change your opinion. But, yes the rookies can be a ton of work sometimes.

nycop80 - if you don't mind, what patrol boro do you work in? also, do they usually take sgts straight out of bmoc and make them impact bosses? I thought they usually have the more experienced bosses doing that

I work in a unit that covers both QS and QN. There's perps in every command. The 101/103/113 and the southern part of the 105 will keep up with a lot of BK and BX pcts when it comes to Guns and violence. 110/114/115 are BS busy. I was a cop in the Rock and we never saw inspections. The Rockaways is the land that time forgot. My unit goes citywide at times and I can tell you we've been in places known to be A houses and the desk Officers were the shakiest ballbusters. While where you work/worked has some toll on what kinda Cop/Boss you are or will be. A lot just has to do with what kind of person you are. I love talking to guys with 2 years who claim to work in the (fill in the blank) meanwhile they have 2 years on and make 511 collars but they think they are the $hit cause of their collar brass. Sorry for the rant lol

I agree that collar brass is way overrated. What kind of person you (selfish/unselfish) are and what type of cop you were (active/inactive) (housemouse/crime) (handled your sector/passed the job on and screwed the next tour) makes all the difference on what type of boss you'll be. I agree about the 114 being BS busy - some stuff in housing, but alot of nonsense. Disagree about the 110/115 though. There are alot of BS impact collars but there is also a ton of robberies and gang members - alot of which fly under the radar. If I was coming from out of boro and was an active cop I'd want to go those two spots or the 109, which can also be surprisingly busy at times. But as you said, there are perps in every command, which I totally agree with.

In Brooklyn North, you need 6 months to be an impact sergeant, and they don't make any overtime other than normal stuff available at the precinct level, or if you have a connection at the boro. Other boroughs are different.

No offense but you can't compare working in Queens Soft, with Brooklyn North, even the 511 collar guy is out there making collars and pulling people over, in one of the nastiest, crime ridden areas in the country. No comparison, sorry, just isn't.

I'm not going to get into a collar brass pissing contest, and there are inherit risks to every cop in every command, but if the 511 collar guy is in such a terrible neighborhood, he should be making better collars if he's pulling over the right people and doing real police work. .

Fidelis,
I agree but have you seen South Jamaica or Far Rockaway? Not much of a difference........Ghetto is Ghetto. Ive never worked in a pct in BN but ive done enforcement in BN i agree BN or the Bx is the worst. However people have this mindset that there are no other ghettos anywhere in the city. Ive been involved in more than 1 shooting and all of them took place in Queens. I know plenty of bosses that worked in BN then came to 101/103/113 and all said the level of savagry was equal to other places they worked. Either way be safe

Even in the 75, you have officers with different tasks, from patrol, to highway safety, to conditions, to anticrime, and etc. Sometimes the highway safety guys do get a good pinch, if you have time on the job, you know quite a few good collars come from carstops even if just for a 511.

Fidelis,
Couldnt agree more bro. But theres a difference between making a 511 and getting luck or doing an anti-crime carstop. Ive done anti-crime work most of my career. Your right some great collars outta car stops.

I'm looking to go to Manhattan South. Been hearing good things about OT and also about how things are done as opposed to Bk South where I've been for 10 years. I'm hoping things work out.

This may be off tangent but do you really have a choice of where you go? Like do they try to accommodate now being that your a boss or do you continue to get ****ed?
