My friend who's a sgt off the 09 list said he got his shield first week or two of bmoc...but they told them they're not officially promoted to Sgt until the ceremony...idk why they even do that
They got their shields early a few times but never seen it done the first day of bmoc. So I call bull**** on that. I also say again... So what if they did??
Not true, most Det 3 go to top pay. He has to look at pay charts. The DEA contract expired AFTER the Sgts. I know for a fact a step 2 Det makes more than a step 3 Sgt.
It doesn't matter. The only way to get the top pay bump for sgt is to be a top pay detective which now takes 2 years in rank to get. I have checked this topic over and over with dea and sba union delegates. As well as my buddies from the 09 class who didn't reach top pay and got made at starting salary sgt. I wish you were right ghettogunslinger. All your going to get is a retro check when the new contract is finalized.
Spartan, I don't wanna get into a pissing match with you brother. But it's civil service law, your base pay can't be lowered. Step 2 Det is around 83/84k. That's higher than step 3 sgt. I have the charts at work. However the Job can make you wait a year but they haven't yet
They never updated the site in regards to the contract. Trust me it's 2 years to top pay. When you get promoted they give you the handout with pay steps. I'll see if I can find it
I'm not disagreeing with you ghetto. But bottom line is You don't get the bump until you hit top pay detective. Like I said I want you to be right. The fact of the matter is that there is a loop hole to not giving you the bump. None of my buddies got the bump to top pay unless they had hit top pay.
I'm not having a pissing match with you. You are right in what you posted above. You make sense and it should go the way you say it should. However it does not. Ask your union rep. If he is any good. Or call the dea or SBA direct and make an inquiry. SBA actually has all the details. It sucks but you don't go to top pay....good luck ghetto. If I find the info written I'll post a link. If you find anything to disprove me. Please share cause I would love to see it.

This is exactly right. You must be a top pay Det to get the bump to top pay Sgt. Unfortunately, it is an urban myth that taking a promotion hinders you from getting paid less. A top pay Lt gets paid more than a newly promoted Captain. It bl0ws but it is the way it is.
10-4....but what your telling me is that if I make 84k base as a Det when I get promoted I'm gonna go down to 79k??? That's against civil service law. Your base pay can never be lowered, unless your demoted. I was told if your 2nd step which is more than 3rd step Sgt they can make you wait a year. My partner went to BMoc with a Det that was a Det for 18 months and when they got their Sgt shield thy both went to top pay. I will def look more into it and me you know. Or hopefully tell you in a couple of months
Someone mentioned to me that civil service law only applies to civil service exams and because the rank of detective is based on discretion they don't have to give you the pay increase. They honor top pay detectives so there is an incentive to promote experienced detectives to sgt. Don't know if this is the reason.... But If true it would explain why the civil service law only applies to civil service ranks. Can anyone confirm this? I'll do some research to see if it's true or not.
For whatever it's worth I've ALWAYS been told you never get a base pay decrease off of the sgt promotion of you were coming from the detective rank.
We all know this is 100% wrong. We want to see if step 2 detective can go to top pay. We know for a fact that base pay detectives do not go to top pay sgt.. Again I'm certain it's only top pay detectives that get it.
I believe it is on promotion day. After all, didn't a few of the guys from the Lt forum confirm that you can enter BMOC under 5 years as long as you are going to be at 5 before graduation?
One refreshing thing is the dissapearance of the troll(s) that kept saying there will be no BMOC class in April. Funny how all those screen names stopped posting all of a sudden...
