I'm a little confused with the word "permanent" assignment to Sergeant. Does this mean the date you were promoted or the date your probation was over? I have gotten mixed responses. Maybe someone can clarify. thanks
seniority points for being experienced......some rookie sgt ......fresh with patrol guide has upper hand. im not mad at seniority points....its the military thats f@cked up. they get 2.5 points !
Riiiiight- 2.5 points is screwed up for guys that served in the military, but points for seniority (also known as hanging around long enough and not doing anything dumb enough to get fired) is fine? I think your logic is a bit backwards. I'm not a fat bast@rd either and have 2.5 points for the FIT test- is that screwed up too?

Innocent1 is the same person who chastised det isnora and said he deserves more than just getting fired, even went as far as to say Sean bell was a VICTIM. Innocent1 might be a police officer, but they ain't no cop.

Another ahole...... We dont get veterans credit for nothin..... Only veterans who served in combat zone or have an expeditionary medal gets 2.5 points.... What did you do??? Sit at home and play wit urself????
What's so messed up about Vets points? Burns you that much, you can always take a leave of absence, go join the military, get deployed, and return to the job with points in hand for your next exam. The things people find fault with, smh!!!
I'm going to hope this person was either joking or making an attempt at being sarcastic because if not, it's sad to think that anyone on this job feels this way
Those points are used "once". And for anyone to comment on a veteran getting extra points is disgraceful! You should thank a vet every time you see one because they had the guts to fight for this country.
I am not a vet. I have minimal seniority points. I am way too lazy to get fitness points. Yet all of them are absolutely justified!!! Arguing with Vet's points is just retarded. It's 2.5 points. Not 10. And it's not for every person who has served. As far as seniority points, I know I'd much rather have a boss with 15 years than 5 regardless of who knows that stupid book better. And if you took the time out of 5 of your days to get down and do obstacle courses then by all means enjoy your points!! This thread is stupid. Where is this F**KING list!!!
Veterans deserve the points they serve our country, but why should you get points for experience. That means nothing. Once you hit 5 years you know this job.it's not rocket science. Experience is another way of saying you failed previous exams or u didnt take them.
By the way, heard from one of the captains that wrote some of the latest captains test that there will def be 19 throwout/ doubles on our test. Didnt wanna tell me when the list will be out.
Interesting debate. I disagree with the whole concept of seniority points, veterans points, fitness incentive, etc. Not to take anything away from our veterans, we appreciate your service. Those who can run a 8 minute mile, your physical prowess is Impressive. Experience is immeasurable, thank you for taking us under your wings. However, it's an OPEN COMPETITIVE exam. If some are getting points that others don't get it puts some at a disadvantage. Finally, I dont see the correlation between being a veteran, being physically fit, or being an old timer with being a LT.
Vacation is a perk that's based on tenure. You can't give a rookie Christmas day off while the veteran with 2 children is working. Open competitive means just that, a competition. Rookies, fat people, and non veterans shouldn't be handicapped. I bet if residency points were reinstated the guys from N/S W/O/R/P would be crying as well.
Residency points SHOULD be reinstated. Living in NYC should absolutely be good for at least points on one promotional exam in my humble opinion... Outside counties can freely whine the same way the few guys here are whining about all the other ancillary points given to groups who did something more in their life to earn them (stay fit, go to war, more TOJ, more medals).

Sgtslaughter and shutyourbitch are right, why should seniority and military service factor into an open competitive exam we all take. Im sure you two wouldnt mind then if the rookie sgts picked vacation ahead of you and took your summer picks. They took an open competitive exam to become sgts like yourselves, seniority shouldnt factor into vacation picks right?
So a cop with zero ambition who takes his first test after 12 years just to get out of a bad command should get rewarded for lack of ambition? Pleeease!
Im just one of those that like things to be fair. I scored well, no reason to complain. I have the crazy notion that your score should be based on how many answers you get correct on a multiple choice test. You are one of those that like things handed to you
Not at all buddy. I worked hard and earned whatever i got on this job. And i bet you were one of those that cried about every sh!tty assignment you got as a rookie, and clearly are still crying about things as a sgt

Interesting argument...I won't even entertain the veteran's points debate. I have no problem with a guy passing me on this list that served our country overseas. God knows I wouldn't want to leave my family to walk around a desert in the Middle East surrounded by insurgents. God bless them for their service and I'll walk across the podium when my time comes. As far as seniority, my question for sgtslaughter is this....what about guys like myself, stanza, gunz and several others on here? We were all young bucks in 2006, just as ambitious as you are big guy. We studied our balls off and aced the 2006 Sgt's test. The motivation wasn't to be Sergeant's. It was to be in the first bmoc or 2 to get a shot at the upcoming Lt's test. Unfortuanately for us, on the 2003 Sgt's exam, the 70 raw score rule wasn't yet in effect. So month after month we waited and watched guys with raw scores in the high 50's/low 60's get promoted while we sat idly by with our raw scores in the high 80s/low 90s. Fast forward to when we finally got in the First bmoc some 9 months after taking our Sgt's exam. We started bmoc and the 2006 Lt's exam was to be administered in just 2 weeks. Most of us, thinking we would get to take the test, went to classes and studied during the previous 6 months. Rumors circulated around the academy that they would promote us up front to give us a crack at the test. Guys were sitting in bmoc with patrol guides out. Unfortuanately it was all rumors, and their was no up front promotion. All the studying and all that money was down the drain. Guys with a raw score of a 58 on the 2003 sgt's exam got to take the 2006 Lt's exam, but we were shut out with 90s. A lot of guys actually went and took the exam anyway, just to get a peak at it, knowing there score wouldn't count. When they got back to bmoc the following monday they were despondent after seeing what a ground ball of a test it was. Two ****ing weeks after giving that exam, the job promoted us. We stayed in the rank of sgt for 5 years waiting for a Lt's exam. Now...finally...in October of 2011, they give an exam, the wait is over. After all that...do i think I deserve an advantage over you? do i think i deserve my measly 2.4 seniority points? You're god damn right I do. I fukking earned them. More than likely slaughter you waltzed into the '09 Sgt's exam, which was a fukking joke...got promoted off that test, and then turned around and Yippee...there was a Lt's test waiting for you. Well good for you slick. I'm glad the stars aligned for you. We weren't so lucky. We got screwed and if the only payback i get is 2.4 seniority points over your whiney rookie azz...then i'm taking them and running with them. Your time will come. Grow some pubes on this job junior and then you can come on here and bitch.
Ok stiggy ive told u before this post is not for u. Ur obviously ambitious and deserve everything u get minus the seniority points. Im not whining, just bringing up a valid point. Actually that long post of urs seems like a long ass whine to me
It's definitely a whine...but at least mine is deserving. You're being a spoiled brat. How does seniority pts = lack of ambition? You're implying that people with seniority pts passed up the opportunity to take a previous promotional exam and then haphazardly decided to take ours. Completely untrue. The last exam was in '06 and I guarantee you the VAST MAJORITY of people who took our test were not eligible for the '06 test...so your argument is baseless. You got a raw score a lot of people would kill for....so stop crying bro. Just have your book up to date when I come to give ya a scratch at my first detail.
Lol ill be the same rank sorry buddy no scratch for you. And im not saying everyone falls into that category but im sure more than a few do. Hiw am i spoiled i wirked for what i have, and you are right ill be in that position one day to get seniority points but if they get rid of them i wont bitch, cause they are not fair
