Economics 101

For starters you initial statement is wrong especially when Mayor Bloomberg has based his entire 3 terms mayoralty on DOING MORE WITH LESS. Under his tootalage the rank and file of the NYPD has shrunk for a head count of 40K down to 33K. THIS IS A FACT! Your entire opening salvo is oxymoronical in nature.

It appears you never really passed Economics 101. The city has been doing more with less for about 10+ years and the mayor is proud of this. He will continue to do the same even within the rank of Sgt. If you do not believe me then I have a bridge to sell you. As an example of my statement you need not look further than the current classes entered into the academy within the last yr. 600+ and then 1000+ went in and supposedly the next class is canceled. Now look how many people are about to retire starting June of this year. The class of June 92 was 3000 deep. So you do the math regarding a shrinking police force. Better yet you do realize that the June 92 class is the first of many large classes retiring every 6 months until 2017. Unless the mayor is replacing each body lost then get ready to see this department do even more with less...THAT INCLUDES LESS SGTS AS WELL!

I just blasted your entire fantasy based argument out the water but alas you can never stop a dreamer from dreaming the impossible dream. You will continue to argue that everything is sprouting out peaches and roses. Everyone will get made Sgt and the rank and file will get a 10% and 10% raises. Dude, you need to control your inner liberal before you become the messiah of all impossibilities. I would hate to see you march your followers over a cliff or better yet have them cut of their private parts awaiting the UFO that is behind the Hailey Bopp Comet.

Now let us further dissect your bull crap. Like I stated before the last two classes added up to a pultry 1600+ total as opposed to the 5000+ hired in 1992. Your math is fuzzy at best and now you claim the next class is slated for 1500.....HAHAHAHHAH! Do your research man. Due to budgetary woes the next class will either be canceled or be decreased to 600+ ....STOP PEDALING PIPE DREAMS.....PLEASE STAY GROUNDED AND DEAL WITH REALITY AND NOT FANTASY!

Good morning fellow UMOS. I am no economics major, and I can't predict whats going to happen with our exam, buts lets be realistic about the declining numbers of our department and our cities economy. Truth be told many of our fellow brothers and sisters are retiring. If you think that any mayor or local politician is going to let this department shrink lower then it is, they are playing political and economic suicide. You may ask why I would say that. Well economics 101. Why has the city been booming with tourism. There are several reasons ; We have made it a safer city, and tourist feel more comfortable visiting NYC, even though we are a major terrorist target.

Do you think tourists are going to come to NYC if it goes back to its crime ridden days. If you think that the city and the department, is gonna cutback on its impact program, and CRV operations, while reducing precinct manning to less then what it is, you really haven't been on the job long enough to know that with a safe city, comes a lot of money. Last year alone their were over 47 million tourists, be it American or foreign who came to the city and spent over 31 billion dollars. The city also has many sports venues, including Yankees, Mets, Madison Square Garden, and the soon to open Nets Stadium which also brings in billions of dollars in revenue, and lets not forget NYC is one of the  major film capitals in the world.

So if you think the City government is gonna let the city go back to the way it was and lose billions of dollars in revenue by shrinking the department, you are not being realistic. Tourism brings in mega dollars (Jobs, businesses, city revenue etc), and the people who live in the city who elect these politicians will not put up with a smaller department that cant address a communities problems, while also hurting the economy because of lost revenue that would benefit not only the city, but also the people and business owners who live and work in NYC.  They will cut some other agency or raise taxes, before they would ever do that.

So lets stop predicting what we dont know. Lets hope the best for all, and stop coming up with what you call being "realistic". Being realistic you dont know whats gonna happen. Our fellow umos have enough to worry about. It was a hard 6 months of studying, for many. Some gave up their time with their family and friends to study. To have one of our own put other UMOS down, and call it being realistic is wrong and a shame. That is one of the problems of this job. For some its all about me and "F" everyone else. Well guess what that "everyone else" may be the UMOS who saves your rear in a 10-13 or donates money to a cause to support a fellow brother or sister in need. So lets be Men about this, and start posting things that are useful and not degrading.

P.S> The last couple of years there have been two academy classes going in a year (Jan/July) even before the large academy classes became eligible to retire. And rumor has it that July 2012 the academy class will be 1500 recruits  (Don't forget the class that's in the academy currently, 900) so how is the City cutting back

Good day and Safe tour to all.

With due respect Im not going to entertain your comment. Because I would never disrespect a fellow UMOS. You have your opinion and I have mine. No matter what, be it fantasy or whatever you wanna call it, or call me I still hope the best for my fellow brothers and sisters including you. Safe tour brother.
