HELP!! I NEED MY DEGREE!

Hey guys...I figured I'd come to you guys for this one...I have enough to make the rank of lieutenant but i need my degree to make captain on this job.  I have academy credits along with credits from two different colleges that add up to around 100.  Need a cheap college that has a VERY liberal transfer of credit policy (meaning they will take almost anything you have and apply it towards the 128 or so credits you need for a bachelor's degree).  I have heard of Empire State, Excelsior, Aspen, and John Jay as being good.  I need something very cheap and quick if possible.  Please recommend and share your experience if you have one so i can decide where to go.  Thanks guys.

Empire State and Aspen i heard is the way to go. John Jay will only take 90 credits. Not to mention John Jay thinks its now Harvard especially if your a cop. I also heard University of Pheonix isnt bad because its all online.

A couple of my friends were telling me that Empire State is not as good as it used to be back in the day when it comes to being a cop friendly college.  John Jay is also very perp friendly from what i saw when i visited over there.  Its a shame.

Glue...i need a college that's gonna batch my credits together and give me a degree with the least hassle and expense if possible.  But ya Excelsior is good for getting you atleast the credits you need for a certain rank.  In my case unfortunately..I need the degree.

Go on the the PBA website.  You can take four classes at John Jay for free right now.  You can't beat it.  I did it.  Only cops are in the class of all different ranks.

I'm in the same boat as you. I went to my local school took classes there, have academy and military courses. I just started going to Ashford university. Very helpful people and the online classes are very easy. Courses are only 5 weeks long so you could finish your BA in no time there if you wanted to.

yes..lol..doesnt mean your a perp bro...i just meant that they have a  good amount of perps there. Feel bad for the cops going there who have no other choice because of their good credit transfer policy.  Warrants should be setting up a table there forthwidth right next to the 212-recruit guys.  lol.

I took two of those classes a couple of years ago and they were good...but i was told john jay ran out of funding for the free classes so they did away with them afterwards.  But i will double check now.  thanks.

yea i know its a tough rank these days brother.  But fortunatley i am 2 for 2 in my promotional exams (this one i consider myself very lucky to have passed) and have less than 10 years on.  Hopefully I will be a LT at the 10 year mark..so going for Captain is a no brainer at this point in my career and for 160K a year (178K with full night diff) walking in the door at top pay...i will gladly get my balls kicked in at traffic stat or any other one of the other assanine stats the job makes up.  The Tuesday and Thursday RDO's will suck for the first couple of years but hopefully i will gain seniority and get my weekends or part of the weekend off after a couple of years in rank.  if i dont make the Captain rank...i guess i will just have to go to Narco as a LT and make my 40 hours a month to ride out my career..lol.

You and I are in the same boat lol.  I did pretty well on the 2011 LT exam and wish I had a crystal ball to determine if I'll get promoted in time to take the 2012 Captain exam lol.  Anyhow best of luck.

Free classes are still available. I had one great class with Prof. John Walsh, who is the old CO of street crime. However, I felt because you were a cop they held you to a higher standard. I was taking a freshman level class and they wanted 2 reference papers from you. Will other freshman classes were taking multiple choice tests with no reference papers or essays.

dont see anyone from the '11 Lt exam taking the May Capt exam. DCAS is not the fastest moving bunch.

No surprise there. As an Lt you can find a place to hide and make a very good living. As a Capt you get paid the big bucks and earn every penny for the first few years with few exceptions.
