Ok this is what I got for you guys. Hope this helps you guys out. Again you can doubt me all you want but this is what we were told today during class so lets recap.
1. September's bmoc class is suppose to graduate 9/28/11. It's a tentative date meaning they can reschedule it. 2. October's class is set to go in 10/3/11 of about 80-85 (maybe even more), meaning the finest will probably come down either 9/28/11 or 9/29/11. 3. October's class graduation is set for possibly 10/28/11. 4. November's Class (between 30-80) will be promoted upfront on 10/28/11 with the October class, bmoc should start for them around 10/31/11. 5. November's class might be a smaller class of sgt's because they might put in a LT's class with them.
No set numbers were given because there are roughly 150 sgts on terminal who may stay retired or return to work. That's why the job doesn't have an exact number, they are just estimating. It could be as high as 150 or as little as 100. If you are in that range start studying! You will be eligible to file for the LT exam. I hope this answers any questions or concerns you guys/gals might have. If I get any other info, I will surely pass it along.
Skellgel, Thank you. Hope you get in soon.
Good luck to those that are waiting. I hope this is good news for you.
Thanks for looking out for us, with intel. Cheers - it is very much appreciated. Looks like I will be right on the bubble. Keeping my fingers crossed...
I wish they could be a little more concrete on who will make this "prepromotion class" before we all invest hundreds of dollars on cram classes only to find out that I missed the cut by 1 name.
Thats the nature of this job pal, you should know that by now. Nothing is concrete until the day it happens. You can ask the people with sources here a million times over the likely hood of these classes, but it doesn't mean poop until the finest printer spits out the notification
DV , im in same boat as you, like most of us. If you have the ching, go spend the $$ on the cram courses , at least youll be a litte refreshed in what youll have to do in a near future... Worse comes to worse, $$ wise , i hear the patrol guides on the computer i believe KSA and the dept lessons are at little cost... Good luck, we all know how time is coming soon ,to be called...
Is there anyway to tell if someone is making nonsense claims to jeopardize your promotion? How soon do they act once they hear stuff that can possibly jam you up? Do they take into account that the person is complaining for the sole person to hold up your promotion ?
I think we are all familiar at looking a little bit closer at our enemies for any possible retaliations at all times of our lives, including these times when something could jeopordize our possible upcoming pdomotions etc. Ive heard our biggest fears are the ones we wouldnt expect, or are not aware about , so although im not familiar with the way the job handles "mama drama", i would suggest dont worry about it. And you would want to ask yourself why would this person want to do that at this time. Im sure this wouldnt be the 1st time who ever handles these situations , so im sure it wouldnt delay the process, of getting to BMOC. Good luck and study.
Ringer is 100% correct, you should be fine. Worse case scenario is interviewing you before sending you to bmoc. Careful not to create new problems though. Don't show her that you're actually concerned about the things she could say about you and do your best to keep communication to the minimum, stay away and keep the piece. It's only a headache for you, but you will be fine.
If the October/November class is set to graduate October 28th...How much notice will they give us to get uniforms ready for promotion? I figure since there are 40 people getting promoted upfront, a notification would have to come down with a directive on what to do regarding uniforms...
Good question....Everybody talk about this dress uniform inspection, however , people ive talked to in recent BMOCs, is that ,they check your uniform, but besides the. Gold Sgts hat, and of course the new collar brass, it seems likeyou dont need to do anything else to your dress uniform, guess just make sure it fits, and get it cleaned and pressed... Can anyone advise further??
"40 people" getting promoted up front for october/november? I thought that number was still unknown lol.... If someone can list what exactly needs to b done to have uniform inspected, plz advise.
Gold cap device and braid for hat. Also gold nameplate. That's it. DONT sew chevrons on uniform or wide braid on pants. Just make sure it's clean and pressed and still fits.

Can you order gold nameplates through buff shops? That was something I figured they'd have everyone order in BMOC, but with the possibility of being in the upfront promotion class I'm wondering if I should try to order it now
I've been reading the board for months but never felt the need to register to ask any questions but it's looking like I'll be in that upfront promotion class at the end of October. I know you can get passed over because of an active IAB investigation, but can you be passed over if you have any pending CCRBs?
The girl instructor said up to Bloomberg if they do that... Not sure if that was a serious answer.... But a female did ask cause she was a 100 names away in that phase 1 class
Bmoc is going on a month by month basis, they can care less if we are eligible for the LT test. October class is confirmed, as for November we have to wait for the middle of the month as always.
Yeah def study!!! Maybe they were not talking bout the early November class cause, it didnt concern us....and its way too early for them to know.... They did say this list will be over ASAP!!
I know it sucks just waiting around but were almost there, people are studying their asses off to be in the position were in now. I see the light at the end of the tunnel, I can care less where i get sent just dont wanna get screwed commute wise.
I wasnt at phase 1...Didnt get the invite, It was probably lost in the mail. Im in the mid 690s.
Ive been reading and reading and reading....its a tremendous amount of information, contrary to the belief that you just have to know Sgt and that the Lt is not that much more. Its a lot of work, especially on short notice.
My motivation rises and falls like the tide. Sometimes its like, Screw this i wont get made for the exam anyways; Other times i want to study. At the end of the day you need an 85 to get made anyways. So screw this, ill do some questions and study 1/4 ass...lol

Exactly how I feel, I'm probably within a few names of you and I can't motivate myself to go nuts and study now that it's so close and there's no definite answer if I'll even be eligible to take the test. I'd rather relax and enjoy my last few weeks as a PO than stress myself out studying for a test I don't even know I can take. I started reading the academy Lt exam material but it's so much information to try and absorb in a few weeks, and you're right, you'll need an 85 to even have a hope of getting promoted. Lt is the least retiring rank at 20 years, so you know a lot of people are going to die on the list, like they are on the current one. My Sgt is on the 06 list (got mid-70s) and he's still hundreds of names away and will almost definitely not get made before the list expires this spring (he says that his only hope is that Espo's daughter is below him, haha). I hope that this list isn't nearly as long as the 06 one (or that there are more retirees to move the list along), or that they at least give the test in 3 years instead of 5, and then I'll go all out and study my ass off.
The rank of LT. isn't what it used to be. It's alot more work for not that much more reward. And the benefits for retirees aren't as good as for Sgts. Sgt is the rank you want unless you have aspirations to be a Capt.

Don't forget the "no chart days for 7 years" part of it. As a Sgt you get what, 28 chart days if you have a steady two day swing and 7 if you're in the scooter chart (10 after top pay)? That ain't bad at all. Plus, they started making Lts go to compstat/trafficstat for a while, and they were all nervous wrecks running around my command because they didn't know what to do. I think that had to do with the embarrassing article that came out a year or so ago detailing how few Lts signed up to take the Capt's test, let alone the measly 100-something that passed. Let's make Lts do the work of Capts so they say "hey, might as well take the Capt's test and get paid more since I'm doing their work for them".

Exactly, SGT is the rank for me. Long gone are the days of the Plt commander hanging out in the locker room watching the Yankees and Giants games and just covering the desk for an hour or two so the D/O can go to meal. They have ruined the rank of LT the way this job ruins everything.
