Is there background investigation to get promoted?

Sounds silly but reading the notice of exams form DCAS it says some sort of investigation? (see below) what the hell does this entail?  What official documents could they possibly want that they dont already have? Just curious

Drug Testing: You will be required to submit to a one time drug test that may occur prior to promotion or after
promotion during the probationary period. This drug test will be required in addition to any other drug testing
conducted by the New York City Police Department, such as random drug testing.

Driver License Requirement: For promotion to this position, you must have a motor vehicle license valid in
the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Investigation: To be promoted, you must present to the Police Department all the official documents and proof
required to qualify.

They do a "round robin" on you. They need to clear you in terms of credits and if you have any outstanding investigations pending. Educational Tracking will reach out to you if they need transcripts but giving them a call to ensure they have them already can't hurt either. You can also check on the Intranet under Educational Tracking.
