Advice on getting promoted

Hey guys, I have a bit of a dilemma. Im in the enxt class, and as its its been said its September. My issue is Im having shoulder surgery this WEdnesday the 10th. so I will be going sick a few weeks. My doctor said it would be a 2-4 week recovery but assured me I would be back to full duty by the end of the month.

Now, the finest should come down Wednesday August 31st with bmoc starting Monday September 5th right?  If thats in fact the case does anyone know on what day they pull name soff the list and check their statuses? I want to be sure I m back to FULL DUTY before they do that for the next class, but I dont know when it is. Should I just aim to get back to work on Monday August 29th? I dont wanna get passed over!!!

brat, cant, i need it. Plus Id rather get it out of the way now rather than after Im promoted. Im just gonan call uniform promotions tomorrow and see what they say. I plan on being back to full duty so it shouldnt be an issue, I just wanna make sure they KNOW im back to full duty when they pull the names.

if you can't, well then you can't........just hope you dont run into complications which causes you to be out longer than you think (god willing things go along as planned).........you have a lot riding on getting promoted on-time, like taking the lt exam

Well you're right. Gotta hope for no complications. But when do you think should be the latest I should be back to work? Monday the 29th? Thats what Im thinking, because the finest comes down Wednesday.

its not up to me, or you when you come back to work......its up to your body and your doctor and the dept surgeon

no offense, but health is first! not this job or any other job! delaying a surgery you need, come on talking reckless

Does anyone know for sure whether or not you can be LIMITED and get promoted or do you need to be FULL DUTY when the finest comes down?

Unless the surgery is critical to life I would personally postpone it.
Just my opinion

well the way you make it sound and the fact that you are on here typing, i would think that it isnt critical to life.

You need to be full-duty to get promoted, I dont know if you need to be full-duty to go thru BMOC, i will find out  tomorrow

Who need you to find a way to wait till you get called then get the surgery. You'll get promoted with your class but you'll be assigned to meld while you're out.

It is possible and actually likely that if you are limited when bmoc starts but you are full duty by the time that class gets promoted, you will be promoted and do bmoc after.

No offense before coming here u need to speak to ur doctor. My bro had the same surgery and they told him he needed to be full duty and he got passed over cuz he was limited. Now 2-4 weeks for therapy that sounds fast. U will probably have to rest the Arm a week or two before the physical therapy. Either way good luck and hope it works out well for u.

Ok I called Uniform Promotions and spoke to a Sergeant. She said even if I go sick until the middle of September I WILL NOT GET PASSED OVER. I will get promotoed at the end of the month and then go to BMOC as a sergeant. Now, I plan on being back for bmoc anyway, but this is good news for anyone else in the same situation.

You gotta be full duty to get the call. For example. If you go into BMOC and "need" the surgery after lets say a week of BMOC, you would be held over. You'd be admin. until the completion of the course. You do what's best for you and yours......
