Why don't you just admit you have to credible sources, your not on the sgt list, and you probably not even off probation. Ray Kelly showed up at the City Council's Committee on Public Safety today to talk NYPD and it wasn't all about that bullet proof boat. He was also there to talk about the department's budget for the rest of 2011 and for fiscal year 2012. And in order to bring the department into line with the city's expectations the NYPD may have lower its headcount a smidge, or at least not hire any new officers for awhile.

In theory the NYPD is supposed to reach a "peak headcount" of 35,367 officers in 2012 (it reached its highest peak, 40,710 officers, in 2001-2002). But in order to do that the department will need to be able to fund new officers to replace those who leave the force, something the department isn't quite ready to do right now. "We're not certain now," Kelly said yesterday. "We haven't sent out any noticeslet's put it that wayin terms of hiring recruits."

I just talked to someone in BMOC now. He said that the instructors believe that there is a possibility of a june class. If not, then in september. I spoke to the BMOC LT a few days ago and he said that maybe a June class, possibly even a July class if there isn't one in June. There are approximately 39 sgt slots open and they don't want to hold a class until they have 75 slots open.

I don't think it's about how many we need when it comes to Sgts. It's about how many slots the department opens up. We need more cops, but from what I heard, only about 1400 - 1500 recruits are coming in July. We will are still losing tons of manpower due to attrition. The department probably wants x amount of sgts, but are budgeting for y amount, hence the "39" or so slots.

There will be a small class of about 45 in the June class

dont know about the holiday, but I heard same rumor 70-75 may 30th, from 2 separate pretty reliable sources, I'll give up my memorial day for bmoc
